Hardcore punk band Refused opened up and expanded their sound for THE SHAPE OF PUNK TO COME (a take-off on the title of the classic avant-jazz disc by Ornette Coleman, THE SHAPE OF JAZZ TO COME). They've become more sophisticated in their presentation, but still maintain their crunching, take-no-prisoners musical ethic--when they let the guitars kick in, they still manage to deliver a brutal, politically inspired racket.
This DVD Audio is a re-mastering of the original 1998 album by the band in 5.1 Audio.

How many punk bands can use a accordin and a zilaphone. And have it sound great. What a blend of highs and lows . Your ears will be well pleased. one of the classics. If you think you are a punk, or into hardcore and metal, and you don't have this cd, you need it.
From the intelligent and inspiring anti capitalist lyrics to the pure genius of the music, this intense, melodic, passionate heavy hitting album will get you going from start to finish.
There is absolutely nothing like refused out there. They did their own thing and hundreds of bands later in my cd collection, nothing has touched them.
They will inspire you and open your eyes to a new kind of hardcore, far beyond the usual predictable regurgitated hardcore we hear every day.
And what other hardcore band has so much integrity that they break up upon getting famous, to stay true to their beliefs?
Each song is different, so give the whole album a chance.
Also check out the one before this, "songs to fan the flames of discontent".
Refused is a must have for any true punk or hardcore fan.

Shape Of Punk To Come
$14.99 This is a DVD-Audio disc. The DVD-Audio content can only be read by a DVD-Audio player. The Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS audio tracks provided on this disc will play on a standard DVD player.
After working his way through loss and chaos on the brilliant TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT (recorded in 1973, but not released until 1975), Neil Young deftly exorcised any lingering demons with 1974's ON THE BEACH. The album opens with the saunter of the aptly titled "Walk On," followed by the utterly gorgeous, Wurlitzer-tinged "See the Sky about to Rain."
The set also features a trio of scathing songs--"Revolution Blues," "Vampire Blues," and "Ambulance Blues"--that address issues important to Young, both social and personal. It is good to hear Young back with such bite and vitriol, especially after the broken desperation of TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT. But while ON THE BEACH is edgy and deeply felt, it also manages to sound liberating and relaxed, with glimmers of hope and humor peeking through the spare, evocative arrangements. Inexplicably unreleased on CD until 2003, ON THE BEACH is both ...
| | Refused Songs To Fan The Flames Of Discontent CD (1996) Reissue
Shape Of Punk To Come
$9.99 The second full-length release from Sweden's Refused, Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent was released in 1996 to uniform praise as the group's worldwide following grew in both numbers and intensity. Signifying a musical evolution that culminated with their masterpiece The Shape of Punk to Come, Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent is perhaps the most metal offering in the group's catalogue. Consistently aggressive, the staccato guitar riffs and drumming rest directly on top of the beat, giving this tighter, later-era Refused material a thick sound that retains its punk energy. Highlights include the almost-death metal grooves on "Life Support Addiction" and "Worthless Is the Freedom Bought," the latter ...

| | Head Automatica Popaganda CD (2006)
Shape Of Punk To Come
$12.55 On his second outing as the frontman of Head Automatica, Glassjaw's Daryl Palumbo abandons DECADENCE's electronica sheen (and, consequently, producer Dan the Automator), opting instead for a catchy, New Wave-inspired vibe. Throughout the album, Palumbo's emotive vocals carry ...
| | Say Anything In Defense Of The Genre CDs (2007)
Shape Of Punk To Come
$11.29 Say Anything is nothing if not ambitious. The band's first album, IS A REAL BOY, is a rock opera complete with characters, a storyline, and grand theatrical flourishes. Their sophomore release, 2007's IN DEFENSE OF THE GENRE, is a sweeping double album that finds lead singer and songwriter Max Bemis breaking away from his punk-pop roots into stylistically adventurous territory. Whether it's churning post-punk ("Skinny, Mean Man"), swinging show tunes ("That Is Why"), orchestral psychedelic ballads ("Retarded in Love"), or incisive ...

Shape Of Punk To Come
$18.05 is a Hybrid DVD Audio Disc, which is a two-sided DVD disc with DVD-Audio content on one side and DVD-Video content on the other.
Burt Bacharach appropriately comes up with a rambunctious soundtrack for the 1967 James Bond spoof, Casino Royale. Things get underway with Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass' performance of the fast-paced main title, which features the usual Bacharach mix of pop phrasing and complex arrangements; this theme is subsequently augmented with a lush string arrangement and marching band rhythms on "Sir James' Trip to Find Mata" and turns into a mod rock jam during "Flying Saucer First Stop Berlin." Bacharach excelled at these kinds of musical cut-ups, but thankfully he used liberal doses of humor and melody to keep the proceedings from turning too rarefied or messy. At times, the humor even turns to camp, as it does with the manic hodgepodge of circus themes, gypsy music, and lounge grind on "Home James, Don't Spare the Horses." The more recognizable and certainly more straightforward side of Bacharach is here, too, on the Dusty Springfield smash "The Look of Love." This is ...
