Sean Hargreaves Trio Rush Hour CD (2005)
Complete Bitches Brew Sessions (August 1969-February 1970) buy CD music Like genre bending keyboardists Jamie Cullum and Brad Meldau, Hargreaves incorporates distinctly non-jazzy vibes into his jazzy brew. Sean's repertoire runs the gamut from the Police ("Walking On The Moon") to the classics ("I'm In The Mood For Love").

"His audacity in manipulating the beat recalls the late Bill Evans, and his attacking chord-work McCoy Tyner". The Guardian
"Along with a remarkable technique and delicate touch, Hargreaves has a flair for unusual rhythmic settings". The Observer
Rush Hour is the new album from London based pianist Sean Hargreaves. It is a contemporary trio album in terms of material, arrangement and production and features one of the UK's finest young musicians who has taken time off his session work to produce the follow up to his critically acclaimed debut album Do You Know Who You Are? (1998). Sean has been influenced as much by jazz, funk and rock, as he has by classical music. A cellist until the age of seventeen, he then turned his attention to the piano, which he has played ever since. The classical music he studied when he was young has stuck with him, inspiring his own compositions to this day.
For his second album Sean wanted to produce something that would reflect his diverse musical tastes, from Chopin to Mahler, from Oscar Peterson to Led Zeppelin. Stretching songs rhythmically has been an important part of this, as with Putting On The Ritz and the challenge of covering two contemporary pop songs, Pull Up To The Bumper and Walking On The Moon. Six of the ten tracks are originals, inspired by conversations, snippets of music, places and people. Better Get On With That was originally written for a duo album Sean recorded with Harry Beckett, which has yet to be released.
Rush Hour boasts a talented cast, it is co-produced by Simon Changer who's credits include Oi Va Voi, Madonna and Lamb, and also features more talents from the UK jazz scene in Andy Hamill (bass) and Tristan Mailliot (drums).
Sean Hargreaves studied in New York with Barry Harris and at the prestigious Berklee College of Music. On his return to the UK in 1998 he received an Arts Council grant to record his debut album, Do You Know Who You Are? and formed his own label, Terrapin, for its UK release. As well as appearing on national TV throughout 2004 with Michael Buble, Sean has worked with a number of UK based jazz musicians such as John Etheridge, Byron Wallen, Ed Jones, Jim Mullen, Roger Beaujolais and Harry Beckett as well as some big names on the pop circuit, including Natalie Imbruglia, US3 and Alison Moyet. His trio also provided music for 'My Fair Kerry', a documentary broadcast on ITV1 in August 2005.

Specials More Specials CD (1980)
Complete Bitches Brew Sessions (August 1969-February 1970) buy CD music The Specials' sophomore effort boasts an even greater stylistic diversity than the band's remarkable debut. Though revivalist ska mixed with an early 1980s New Wave energy is still the keynote, as evidenced by the leadoff song, a cover of Prince Buster's "Enjoy Yourself," MORE SPECIALS also delves into cha-cha, cocktail jazz, and more. "Stereotypes," for example, brings together a lounge-ready mix of dub, mariachi, and Ennio Morricone-esque Western themes in a way that presages the post-rock revival of those genres in the '90s.
Other tracks, particularly the upbeat "Hey, Little Rich Girl" (which features sax work by Madness's Lee Thompson) and the old-school R&B-tinged "Sock It to 'Em J.B." (a tongue-in-cheek James Bond tribute), recall the Specials' first album. But it is the curveball, experimental work that is the most striking, especially the trippy dub groove (and nuclear-protest message) of "Man at C&A" and the quirky, space-age bounce of "International Jet Set." Though it's possible that the Specials' stylistic innovation confused some fans, the ambition on MORE SPECIALS is extremely impressive. The 2002 reissue includes an enhanced feature with videos for "Ghost Town" and "Rat Race" (though the songs aren't included on the album proper).
All tracks have been digitally remastered.

Los Tigres Del Norte Detalles y Emociones CD (2007)
Complete Bitches Brew Sessions (August 1969-February 1970) songs One of the most revered acts in the Mexican-rooted Norteno style, the California-based Los Tigres Del Norte offer up another lively set on 2007's DETALLES Y EMOCIONES. As always, vibrant accordion lines and steady rhythms propel the tunes, belying the darker lyrical content of drug running, violence, and betrayal, and warmly inviting listeners to dance around the room.

Claudia Malibu We'll Find You CD (2000)
Complete Bitches Brew Sessions (August 1969-February 1970) buy CD music Everything about We'll Find You is unequivocally (and wonderfully) pop, with a particular bent towards '60s melodic ingenuity and a loopy, jangling garage rock ambience as well as the type of innocently wide-eyed subject matter ("Golden Parachutes," for instance) of the era's most delightful soft rockers -- bands such as Sagittarius and the Association. "I Love the Way," in fact, borrows the guitar hook from the latter's "Never My Love," but Claudia Malibu is not about subscribing to the same saccharine featheriness. There are charming hints of bubblegum sweetness ("Johnny Payroll") and coed vocals that twine around each other gloriously, but the band is more about severely skewed songcraft and worldview than they are about evoking an era. Claudia Malibu is terrifically eclectic and modern at the same time. They are just as capable of breaking into a strummed heartbreak ballad ("Angels Are Forever") or countrified dream pop with girl group overtones ("First Ones to Find Us") as they are appropriating certain hallmarks of space rock twangy reverb, the wispy tone, zoned out sound effects -- without concerning themselves with the austerity of the genre. The sounds that the band wrenches out of its keyboards are nothing short of fabulous, completely tripped out and warped. Lyrical references, on the other hand, range from nostalgia for bygone kitsch objects such as the Atari game system to patently strange abduction tales (they are "Kidnapped" by aliens and stranded in space in one instant, and ask to be taken again in "U.F.O."). There is a certain sonic simpatico between Claudia Malibu and the Apples in Stereo (particularly on "Big White Lie"), but it is mostly a simple function of the throw-caution-to-the-wind quality that they share and the mutual grounding in lighthearted pop styles from the '60s. The music is loaded with idiosyncratic appeal and served up with a side order of psychedelic production touches. It sounds like an album that was fun to make and it is certainly an album that is pure joy to listen to. We'll Find You neither attempts to capture a particular mood nor reinvent pop music wholesale, and that is part of reason it is so utterly infectious. It is whimsical and has a ragged radiance that simply doesn't wear off. ~ Stanton Swihart
Personnel: Leslie La Barge (vocals, guitar); Yvonne LaBarge (vocals, keyboards); James B. Weeks (guitar, recorder, keyboards); Captain Luke J Cavagnac (guitar); Mark Alan Miller (recorder); Jeremy Marusek (drums).
