| | Michael Lington Stay With Me CD Michael Lington Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
Altoist Michael Lington, who is strongly influenced by David Sanborn, performs quite earnestly on this CD, putting honest feeling into the melodies and creating lightly grooving, mildly funky background music. His smooth sound is pleasing, but there is little beyond that to recommend this disc or to distinguish it from dozens of similar sets (perhaps if Lington actually chose to wander away from one of the melodies, or if he had hired a rhythm section that displayed some personality...). It is no coincidence that all of the selections clock in between three and a half and four and a half minutes, for radio airplay is the main goal of this release rather than self-expression or the need to create something new. Fans of Sanborn's sound who desire to hear a lighter variation will enjoy this set. ~ Scott Yanow

| Stay With Me Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) Hits the mark! Really shows off Lington's versatility. You can also hear Dave Koz's influence on the production side of this CD. If you'rea bit tired of Boney, Euge, and Richard, try this one. Submitted by RAKAR5 (Neriden,CT,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Michael Returns With a Bang!! I've been a big fan of Mike Lington since I heard 'Still Thinking of You' (S.T.O.U), the powerful saxplay from the last album, 'Everything must change', which saw Michael at his best. I've collected all of his previous albums eversince. Though nothing here comes close to S.T.O.U, all the 10 tracks are wonderful, especially the hits, 'Two of a kind' and 'Show me'. I have no doubt the album still deserves yet another five-star rating. Submitted by hadirule (Malaysia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Ooooh, now this is good! I'm not much of a jazz fan but I kept hearing "show me" on the radio and had to get it! The entire CD is just great! And hey, he is kinda cute :) Submitted by info (Twin Cities, MN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Stay With Me
$12.49 Some bop snobs would have listeners believe that smooth jazz is inherently evil because it is designed to attract R&B and pop audiences -- that commercialism is a place where only infidels, heretics, and blasphemers dwell. But truth be told, smooth jazz is what the artist chooses to make it; some pop-friendly jazz (Grover Washington, Jr., David Sanborn, Pat Metheny) has been quite creative. Unfortunately, a lot of radio-oriented smooth jazz tends to be contrived and formulaic, and more often than not, Michael Lington's Everything Must Change is a perfect example of an artist modeling himself ...

$14.79 As one reviewer said of the cheerful music and personality of this increasingly popular voice of smooth jazz guitar, it's Disneyland all the time with him. In other words, Positive Energy, the name of his second genre disc, wasn't just a happy marketing tool. And the title of this disc is appropriate, too, because with the co-production help of founding Spyro Gyra ...
