| | Lil' KeKe Don't Mess Wit Texas CD Lil' KeKe Discography of CDs
(4 Customer Reviews)
Lil' Keke's debut album, Don't Mess Wit Texas, is an entertaining, bass-heavy gangsta record. Like most of his Southern-based contemporaries, Lil' Keke spends more time working a groove than with his lyrics, which makes Don't Mess Wit Texas sound like a party record, not a hardcore mission statement. And that's not a bad thing, since he has more rhyming skill and personality than many of his bass-devoted peers, two attributes that mark him as a promising rapper well worth watching. ~ Leo StanleyThe Wire (p.45) - "'Southside' is an uncomplicated teaming of dreamy piano chords, sinuous beats and insouciant lyrics...there's something magical about the convergence of these elements." | | Devin The Dude To Tha X-Treme CD (2004)
Don't Mess Wit Texas songs
$14.29 Making good on the "dude" part of his name, the good-natured rapper Devin the Dude eases through a fun and relaxed set of songs on TO THA X-TREME. A laid-back vibe (at least partially due to some serious smoke inhalation) pervades the album, making it a welcome change of pace from more gruff, heavier hip-hop. Devin hilariously introduces the disc on "Devin's Medley," and then slides into the smooth, electronic-tinged title track. Other ...

Don't Mess Wit Texas songs
$34.89 The Japanese quartet, Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, continues to churn out punk rock with more melodic and structural variations than hardcore, yet still not as many of those attributes as what's heard in most alternative rock, On their third album, Rodeo Tandem Beat Specter, they add some funk to their shifting lurching tempos, and create a general, sinister ambience to their jagged and tense riffs, just occasionally slowing down to noir-ish moods in "Mona Lisa" and "Beat Specter Garcia." The words are gruffly yelled/sung with a hoarse curl of the tongue that echoes vintage Johnny Rotten. A group that sings virtually entirely in Japanese ...

| | Def Jamaica CD (2003)
Don't Mess Wit Texas CD music
$12.65 This compilation highlights a musical form that has been a shot in the arm for the ailing U.S. hip-hop collective. Beset by warmed-over gangsta-style imagery and threadbare production values, the industry came up with a winning formula in the combination of hip-hop and Jamaican dancehall, a perky amalgam of bossa-nova beats, reggae, and old-school toasting that had been popular almost everywhere but the U.S. since the mid-1980s.
DEF JAMAICA features established American artists such as Cam'ron, Shawnna, and Juelz Santana on infectious cuts spiced up with insistent ubiquitous dancehall beats. On the triumphant (and wildly popular) "Dude," Ms. Thing gets sultry in Indian style with Shawnna, assisted by the broader-than-Broadway vocal stylings of Beenie Man. Nokio puts recent U.S. gangsta rap efforts to shame with the crisp production style and rhythmic smarts of "Murda," while the Ghostface Killah/Elephant Man collaboration, "Girls Callin'," shows that gangsta rappers and dancehall toasters can play together quite nicely, thank you. With musical influences ranging from R&B ...

| | Marc Romboy Gemini CD (2006) (Import)
Don't Mess Wit Texas songs
$16.05 This is Germany-based Marc Romboy's first full-length album. If you take a close look at the electronic dance music scene over the last two years, you'll certainly come across the Systematic label. With only eighteen releases out, Systematic already managed to become a firm favorite with many DJs around the whole globe, with releases and remixes from Booka Shade, Olaf Pozsgay, Martin Landsky, John Dahlbäck, Blake Baxter and Zoo Brazil to name just a few. Now, in 2006 Mister Romboy is about to take the next big step by releasing his very first solo artist album Gemini, a truly impressive collection of state of the art electro-flavored house tracks, that he has produced with Stephan Bodzin and 45 Rocks, that will cause a massive stir in the club world! To make it even more special, Romboy invited some A-list musicians to join him: Robert Owens, late '80s Chicago house legend -- member of the history making Fingers Inc. super-group alongside Larry Heard ...

Don't Mess Wit Texas album
$13.89 Sleep Said The Monster is the kind of band you meet in a back alley, but not in the that drug-dealing/sex-peddling/money-stealing sort of way. They aren't there to hurt you. Sure, they craft their parables using the same darkness that those misfit archetypes generally inhabit. And yes, the stories swimming through their brand of brooding pop often reference the kind of sordid tales that only occur in ...
