| | Duke Ellington: Complete Columbia And Rca Victor Sessions CD - Import Duke Ellington Discography of CDs
When BMG issued the Never No Lament sides, a triple-CD package finally remastered with all the right stuff, it would have seemed that the jazz punters finally had a definitive version of the classic Jimmy Blanton/Ben Webster edition of Duke Ellington and His Orchestra. Not so. Spain's Definitive Classics has just issued an audiophile version of the set with an extra disc of the material the Blanton-Webster Band recorded for Columbia. What is contained here includes not only the orchestra sides, but all of the small-unit groups, as well. Hardcore collectors will no doubt have this material in various forms, since all that is featured here are master takes, but it is convenient to have all of them in one place with finely remastered sound -- there is some minor noise on these transfers, but the music contains its full fidelity. These 88 tracks offer, finally, a definitive view of the band at its most poignant, and powerful. ~ Thom Jurek
The complete and definitive edition of the studio recordings, with Ben Webster on tenor sax and Jimmy Blanton on bass. Only master takes, without alternates. 4 CD set

| | Bobby Militello Easy To Love CD (1993)
Duke Ellington: Complete Columbia And Rca Victor Sessions songs
$11.49 Bobby Militello, on both alto and flute, has an opportunity to stretch out during this CD, playing bebop, '60s-type funky jazz, and R&B-ish ballads; he even takes an enthusiastic vocal on "I Thought About You." Organist Bobby Jones actually dominates the ensembles, contributing strong solos, heated accompaniment of Militello, and four of the ten selections. With drummer Bob Leatherbarrow providing driving rhythms and trumpeter Jeff Jarvis helping out on a few numbers, the set has the feel of a classic hard bop organ combo, inspiring Bobby Militello to play at his best. ~ Scott Yanow
Bobby Militello is presently playing with and has been with the Dave Brubeck Quartet since 1983. He also has played with Maynard Ferguson from 1975 to 1979. Other well known artists he has worked and recorded with are The Bill Holman Big Band, The Bob Florence Big Band, Doc Seversinson and the Tonight Show Band, Cheryl Benteen from Manhattan Transfer and Jeff Jarvis and Emiel Van Egdom, to name a few. | | Randy Sabien In A Fog CD (2008)
Duke Ellington: Complete Columbia And Rca Victor Sessions album
$18.99 Randy Sabien began his musical career in fourth grade growing up in Rockford, IL. His original aspiration was to be a rock and roll drummer but when the orchestra came up short on strings and he wound up with a violin in his hand instead of drumsticks. Undaunted, he taught himself to play the guitar and was soon jamming in 60s garage bands while learning to play violin in the orchestra. By the time Randy went on to study classical violin in college, he had already begun his alternative education in earnest pouring into artists like Papa John Creach (Jefferson Airplane), Sugarcane Harris, and Vassar Clements. A seminal event happened when Randy went to an Asleep at the Wheel concert. One of the fiddlers recommended he check out the French, swing-era jazz violinist, Stephane Grappelli. Putting the needle down on It Don’t Mean a Thing was the defining moment for Randy’s career. He found his niche and began teaching himself to play jazz and blues on the violin. With a unique foundation in self-education, Randy began organizing what he learned ...
