The definitive rock opera, TOMMY liberated the Who from a "singles band" stigma, marking them as a substantial artistic force. Composer Pete Townshend had flirted with the conceptual format on two previous releases, but here his vision is spread over two ambitious records that play to the Who's main strengths. Anthems such as the raucous "Pinball Wizard" and the surprisingly serene "I'm Free" emphasize the kinetic power of the band, while Townshend's cast of characters (the perverted Uncle Ernie, the inscrutable Tommy) reveals a wild and unconventional imagination. Townshend even incorporates Sonny Boy Williamson's "Eyesight to the Blind" as part of his fable about the "deaf, dumb, and blind kid," making a successful reference to the past in what is an undeniably groundbreaking and forward-looking achievement.

I loved this album in 1969 and I still love it, and this DVD-Audio format only enhances it more.
This version comes with a second disc which Pete Townsend shows us his home studio, it shows how he still admires what he did back then, he is now able to stand back objectivily and disect 'Tommy'in a way that somewhat explains the 'Tommy' phenomenon.

"miracle DVD A" I have several studio, & live versions, of this classic.
Hands down, the sound quality, on the DVD A, is light years better than the others.
Only reason it doesn't score a 5, is that it's not perfect; meaning I've heard other DVD A's, that are better;i.e., Fleetwood Mac Rumours, Steely Dan Two Against Nature; Eagles, Hotel California, etc.
That said, this is a "must disc" for WHO fans. Submitted by stonesfan1973 (Brooklyn, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The best TOMMY ever I have been a Tommy fan for a number of years and thought my SACD version was the best until I heard this DVD-A version. Suddenly the acoustic guitar was literally in the room with me. The voices were even clearer than the SACD. On top of the additional clarity and the on-screen lyrics, you get a very cool interview with Pete Townshend who explains how he remastered the 8 track tapes into 5.1...this alone merits the purchase of this disc. Don't wait, this is truly the best this recording has ever sounded! Submitted by elwoodc (Frankfort, KY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Released in 1981, REACTOR was a transitional album for Neil Young, most notably in that it marked a break in his longstanding relationship with Reprise Records. But before Young left for the supposedly greener fields of Geffen, he unleashed this amped-up outing with Crazy Horse in tow. "Opera Star," with its refrain of "ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho" and unusual synthesizer backing, sets a quirky tone that's furthered by "T-Bone," a nine-minute guitar workout with lyrics comprised only of the lines "Got mashed potatoes/Ain't got no T-bone." On other tracks, however, the iconic rocker leaves blatant eccentricities behind; "Southern Pacific" rolls along vintage Young rails, while the fierce "Shots," with its distorted, industrial sounds, closes the album on its most energetic and glorious moment.

Fans old and new have much to celebrate about SUPERNATURAL, Carlos Santana's Arista Records debut. After several years of quiet in the studio, Santana is joined by his seasoned contemporary Eric Clapton and by such young luminaries as Lauryn Hill, Dave Matthews, Rob Thomas, and Fher (of famed Mexi-rockers Mana). As an album that caps a rock career spanning more than three decades, SUPERNATURAL is a testament to the stylistic breadth of Carlos' musical world, to his dynamic communicative abilities, and to the fact that rolling stones truly gather no moss. The man continues to make a guitar wail like no other.
To the sound of punchy horns, Rodney Holmes' double-bass drum kick, and of course, Santana's searing string-bending, "Yaleo" tears it up with abandon. "Migra" is another signature Santana 'Latin rock' piece with a pulsing Bo Diddley beat and a strong message about the U.S. immigration officers' harassment of Latinos. "Love Of My Life" is a sultry number with Matthews pouring sweetness all over the microphone, while "Do You Like The Way" features Hill dropping the light of her wisdom to slow, rough beats.
