| | Lee Perry Super Ape CD Lee Perry Discography of CDs
Though SUPER APE was one of the first "dub" records released by Lee Perry after his move to the legendary Black Ark Studio, it's a bit misleading to call this a dub album. Perry's earlier efforts with King Tubby saw music stripped to its core, with all sorts of added effects completely reshaped existing songs. SUPER APE is more of a dub-influenced instrumental showcase for the Black Ark's house band, The Upsetters, and for Perry's latest creations and concepts. Regardless, SUPER APE is a great introduction to the "Black Ark sound" that would become so popular over the next few years and has since been well-documented on the ARKOLOGY box set.
"Croaking Lizard" and "Black Vest" are both wonderful rhythms that later resurfaced in Max Romeo's WAR INA BABYLON. Other tracks, like "Underground" and "Come Follow," are mesmerizing, with vocals from the Heptones and from uncredited female singers. Though it may not boast some of the more out-there moments that dub can provide, SUPER APE is focused, full-sounding, and thoroughly enjoyable. It remains one of the best releases of Perry's career. Super Ape album
$7.59 Recorded live at Academy Of Music, New York, New York; Paramount Theatre, Portland, Oregon; Paramount Theatre, Seattle, Washington; Show Palace, Phoenix, Arizona; Long Beach Arena, Long Beach, California; P.N.E. Coliseum, Vancouver, British Columbia.
Throughout its first three studio albums, Blue Oyster Cult merged intelligently written lyrics shaded with dark occult and sci-fi imagery with a crunching attack, which helped generate comparisons to Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. As good as these records were, ...
| | Iggy And The Stooges Raw Power CD (1973) Remastered
Super Ape CD music
$6.79 This 1997 reissue of RAW POWER was digitally remixed by Iggy Pop, Danny Kadar, and Bruce Dickinson. Pop had long complained about David Bowie's mix of the original LP.
The booklet contains an interview with Iggy Pop conducted and edited by Arthur Levy.
Iggy & the Stooges/The Stooges: Iggy Pop; Ron Asheton (bass instrument); James Williamson, Scott Asheton.
Though the Stooges were on the verge of breaking up at the time RAW POWER was recorded, it still comes across as (arguably) their most focused and powerful release. Former guitarist Ron Ashton was moved to bass and replaced by James Williamson, whose precise, razory playing makes RAW POWER the Stooges' most guitar-driven album. Scott Ashton drums up a storm, and Iggy yowls, ...
| | Best Of David Sanborn CD (1994)
Super Ape music CDs
$11.19 One of the most well known figures in pop/R&B-leaning jazz, saxophonist David Sanborn had a highly successful stint with the Warner Bros. label from the mid-1970s to the mid-'80s. This collection draws 16 tracks from that period in Sanborn's career, with songs ranging from the funky "Chicago Song" to the smooth "Lesley Ann" to the spare, delicate "Lotus Blossom." For listeners whose only connection to jazz is via Kenny G, this Sanborn sampler is the next logical step.

| | Dazz Band 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection CD (2001)
Super Ape songs
$6.75 Originally released on Motown Records. Includes liner notes by A. Scott Galloway.
An 11-song snapshot of the Dazz Band's Motown stint that includes the not-often-featured "To the Roof," whose origins date back to "Take It to the Woof" by Cleveland, OH-based funk band Morning Maniac led by ex-Dazz Band member Kenny Pettus who's the lead voice on the Earth, ...
| | Nick Heyward North Of A Miracle CD (1983)
Super Ape album
$9.79 NORTH OF A MIRACLE, the debut solo release from former Haircut 100 frontman Nick Heyward, features "On A Sunday" and "Club Boy At Sea."
One track already makes Nick Heyward's first solo LP after leaving Haircut 100 a must-hear. The breezy "Whistle Down the Wind" is among Heyward's most moving songs, a story of unrequited love with a "hello, hello, hope you're feeling fine" chorus that is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Heyward sings the opening lines in a whispery tone, caressing the ears with the sweetness of his voice; when the tempo builds up, the track manages to simultaneously elevate and sadden the listener. "Whistle Down the Wind" is lush, hopelessly romantic pop that may have been too subtle for Top 40 radio in 1983. Although North of a Miracle doesn't strike those highs again, it's still just as charming ...

| | Tina Arena In Deep CD (1997) (Import) Bonus Tracks; Australia
Super Ape songs
$18.79 This set from the dance goddess feature rare alternate versions of "In Command," "Not For Sale," "Welcome To My World," and "Stay," as well as "Burn," "If I Didn't Love You," "Sixteen Years," and "Unsung Hero."
Tina Arena's slow-developing international career must be a source of frustration to Sony Music. Given the pop singer/songwriter's success in her native Australia, where In Deep, her second Epic album, became a number one hit upon its release in August 1997, the obvious plan is to turn her into a down-under Celine Dion. In that pursuit, this American reconfiguration has added "If I Was a River," written by Diane Warren (who wrote Dion's "Because You Loved Me") and produced ...

| | Sonya Lachelle With You CD (2008)
Super Ape songs
$12.39 With the surprise of an unexpected whirlwind, Sonya's debut single, 'You Ain't Got Nothin' took the Tampa Bay area by storm. Fresh off of the success of that release, Sonya's eagerly anticipated full-length effort, 'With You' is as exciting and inspirational, and definitely unforgettable. It is her diversity and style that makes her sound magical. And through her collaborations with fresh and innovative production talents, Sonya is able to deliver a complete package. Wanting to maintain a highly eclectic palette of musical offerings, Sonya solicited the production talents of Dexter Redding, son of the legendary Otis Redding, John 'Dash' Dixon, Chris Spencer, and newcomers Damon 'Idiomz' Curtis and Kensington 'Phat Boi' Franklin. This array of producers has taken traditional, contemporary, R & B, hip-hop and jazz sounds, thrown them in a pot, stirred them up and served a musical feast for the ears that is packed with flavor. A truly unique talent herself, Sonya grew up in the Tampa Bay area having strong ties to her musical roots. As the daughter of Larry Sanders (The Prophet of Soul) it was inevitable that her abilities would soon shine through. And her talents were revealed early on. Sonya began singing for the Lord at the age of 9. Though content to sing at church for many years, the strength and power of her vocal ability continued to grow and provide inspiration for any that could hear her. The growth process that has lead to the introduction of Sonya's full-length album has been a revealing experience for her. Although she came up with an adoration for praise and worship, Sonya's tastes have expanded to include the unadulterated power in the voice of Whitney Houston, the intricate yet down to earth stylings of Mary J. Blige, and the jazz-like smoothness of neo-soul. It is no wonder, then, that her own sound is as widely diverse and equally eclectic. Her focus is deliberate as she intends to captivate and minister to a more distant set of ears. She is reaching out, not only to her more established listeners, but also to the youth. 'Why? Because they are young and I want them to have an opportunity to choose who they are to be, rather than allowing themselves to be trained to conform to what's comfortable for everyone around them. We are not ...
