| Stray Dog Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) A lost gem of the 1970s - Fantastic! This is a disc that had my musician buddies ranting and raving for years. The musicianship is way ahead of its time. If you like Joe Walsh, Free, ZZTop (check out 'Chevrolet' - better even than Billy Gibbons; unreal!) you will love this disc. You simply won't believe this band did not become way famous - still a mystery to me. Submitted by Dave A. (Cincinnati, Ohio, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
fasten your headphones!!! haven't listened to this album in years but it is even better than I remember. HARD rock with a Texas blues slant. Great vocals, searing guitar work from Snuffy Walden, Leslie Sampson is the best drummer I ever saw play on stage and tres-solid in studio. They pop you in the aural senses right from the get-go, then lead you up and down on a musical thrill ride with great change of pace. 3 excellent musicians who should have gotten more attention. Perhaps because they were about 25 years ahead of their time---too bad. A second album was good but not as fiery. Fasten your seatbelts, you're going on a roller coaster ride!! One of the greatest.. ..myteries of rock music is why this band weren't much more successful. This is a fantastic rock album, and still sounds as fresh and powerful as it did 33 years ago.Snuffy Walden's sound and feel on this album are simply awesome.Great drumming by Les Sampson too;wild and forceful.I highly recommend this CD. Stray Dog album
$12.89 With all of his lengthy suites and unified concept albums, Rick Wakeman's solo work would appear to be very difficult to anthologize. As the first Wakeman compilation available domestically in the U.S., that's what Recollections: The Very Best of Rick Wakeman (1973-1979) sets out to do. The two tracks from Journey to the Centre of the Earth are edited excerpts, but otherwise all the material is present in its original, full-length form. Most of the other pieces (14 in all) are from The Six Wives of Henry VIII, The Myths & Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, White Rock, and Rick Wakeman's Criminal Record -- most of them cohesive concept works that devoted fans will already have. By its very nature, Recollections can't be anything other than a sampler for casual fans, but in that respect it functions very well. ~ Steve Huey

| | Deep Purple Machine Head CDs (1972) Remastered; Deluxe Edition
Stray Dog CD music
$10.75 This package contains the original MACHINE HEAD plus quadrophonic mixes of 2 songs on one disc, MACHINE HEAD remixed by Roger Glover in 1998, and a 28 page booklet.
A probable contender for one of hard rock's "all-time most influential albums," Deep Purple's MACHINE HEAD has all the markings of a heavy classic. It was here that the band's combination of amped-up blues, progressive instrumental prowess, screaming guitars, and thunderous rhythms was crystallized for the ages, helping to lay the foundation for hard rock and heavy metal throughout the '70s, '80s, and '90s. The lone presence of "Smoke on the Water" immediately elevates the album to essential status. The song became a long-running radio staple, and boasts one of the most instantly recognizable guitar riffs in rock history.
Yet the rest of the album holds up impressively, from the adrenaline-soaked opener "Highway Star," in which organist Jon Lord and guitarist Richie Blackmore trade off dazzling solos, to the churning "Space Truckin'," ...
| | Catch The Rainbow: Anthology CDs (2003) Remastered
Stray Dog music CDs
$15.09 Recorded between 1975 & 1984. Includes liner notes by Jerry Bllom and Mark Welch.
Released in 2003, the exceptional two-CD Rainbow collection Catch the Rainbow: The Anthology provides a deeper understanding of how the band influenced the direction of hard rock and heavy metal. Between 1975 and 1984, former Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore guided his new band (which had dizzying revolving-door lineup changes) through visions of mystical heavy metal and polished, radio-friendly hard rock. Blackmore's employment of vocalists Ronnie James Dio, Graham Bonnet, and Joe Lynn Turner created three distinct periods, all of which Catch the Rainbow: The Anthology expands upon further than 2000's perfunctory 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Rainbow and 1997's stellar The Very Best of Rainbow. Indispensable songs such as "Man on ...

| | Armageddon CD (1975) Remastered; Digipak
Stray Dog CD music
$16.29 Cynics who perceive many super-groups as nothing more than bloated extrapolations of, at times, perfectly mundane musical components, can back up their assumptions with Armageddon's eponymous debut from 1975. The first and final spawn of the would-be-super-group featuring former Yardbird vocalist Keith Relf, erstwhile Captain Beyond drummer Bobby Caldwell, ex-Steamhammer guitarist Martin Pugh, and Relf's Renaissance partner, bassist Louis Cennamo, the album contains a meager five tracks -- four of which extend beyond the eight-minute barrier due to bouts of arguably unnecessary, self-indulgent waffling. On the other hand, this was the '70s, people, and of course this sort of excess was par for the course, back then. What's more, these same dubious qualities actually contributed to the album's eventual adoption as a precursor ...

$13.09 This is Tarantula Hawk's second (and second self-titled) album, following their 2001 debut on Life Is Abuse. Their label this time out, Neurot Records, is a fitting match for the band given the presence of other brooding epic-rock heavyweights such as Isis and flagship band Neurosis on the label, although this is the most distinctly "prog" album on Neurot up to this point. Loosely comparable to Larks' Tongues in Aspic/Red-era King Crimson, ...

Stray Dog songs
$10.35 While most progressive minded bands (for lack of a better term) pride themselves in mixing and matching unrelated musical genres together, Santa Cruz's Estradasphere take it a step further by inventing and then naming entirely new hybrid styles! Among the crossbreeds slated for inclusion in 2006's Palace of Mirrors: "Romanian Gypsy Death Metal," "Spaghetti Eastern," "Bulgarian Surf," and damn it if these outrageous cocktails aren't masterfully realized in the likes of "Smuggled Mutation," "Six Hands," and "The Terrible Beautypower of Meow," respectively. Also to be found on this wild ride of an album are the industrial noises of "The Unfolding Pause on the Threshold," the beautifully arranged soft jazz of "The ...
