| | Telefon Tel Aviv Map Of What Is Effortless CD - Import Telefon Tel Aviv Discography of CDs
This 2004 release from New Orleans based experimental techno outfit, Telefon Tel Aviv contains nine tracks, including, "I Lied", "Bubble and Spike", and "My Week Beats Your Year".
Map of What Is Effortless was probably anything but effortless in its creation. Crisp, majestic, and swirling, this sophomore record trumps their debut in spades. Fahrenheit Fair Enough (the group's 2001 fine enough in its own right debut) noodled with a mix of post-rock aesthetics filtered through beats split apart on a G4 and chilled, where Map brings the grandeur of radio-inflected soul, motion picture soundtrack pads, and even a little bravado with a production frame that kills anything found on the dial. Beautiful vocal performances easily float around Telefon Tel Aviv's crisp claps and melodic progressions. Each track floats on by, and that's the effortless part of it -- this record is over before you know it. Highlights include the cocky "My Week Beats Your Year" and the sensitive "Nothing Is Worth Losing That," but there's hardly a weak moment here. TTA manage to not only make their first great album, but also put in the first entry for the best of 2004. ~ Jack LV Isles

Spin (3/04, p.96) - "Telefon Tel Aviv make a minimalist Massive Attack, hot-wiring neo-soul vocals and downcast bleeps and beats into a sad yet squelchy sleeper." - Grade: B Entertainment Weekly (2/13/04, p.72) - "Not only for the broken-hearted, this is computer-driven soul for anyone who's spent too many nights in front of a flickering monitor." - Rating: B+ CMJ (1/26/04, p.21) - "[P]acks lush ambient soundscapes, broken-beat IDM rhythms and soothing vocals into nine gorgeosly structured songs." | | Dave Clarke Devil's Advocate CD (2003) Bonus Tracks; Japan
Map Of What Is Effortless songs
$38.19 Hardcore techno DJ Dave Clarke spins his head-spinning beats on DEVIL'S ADVOCATE.
Dave Clarke's vision of hardcore for the headstrong, as practiced on his chart-bound series of mid-'90s Red singles, appeared to have little in common with the climate of mainstream dance in 2003 (electroclash and DJ Hell notwithstanding). A notoriously independent artist, he has never varied his style according to the whims of the marketplace, though his tastes do frequently overlap with the sound of the moment, as happened during 1994-1995 with the Red series and a few years later with his two Electro Boogie mix albums for K7. More so than the brilliant Archive One, this record forsakes the trailblazing Dave Clarke of old with a different figure, one who simply places the Clarke imprimatur on a host of styles he's been championing for years. So, there's a British hardcore track, a Chicago track (featuring no less than Farley Jackmaster Funk on keys and DJ Rush on vocals), a Detroit track (one that's strikingly similar to Carl Craig's "Food and Art"), even a minimalist booty track named "Just Ride" that features co-production from DJ Godfather. Clarke also shows himself an able hip-hop producer, collaborating with Mr. Lif on a track that replaces the usual gangster trademark -- sampled gunshots -- with what sounds like a full arsenal of shoulder-fired missiles and grenade launchers. Another good idea was recruiting Chicks on Speed for two features, the first of which attempts to rejigger Bauhaus' "She's in Parties" into a post-millennial dance smash that ends up mostly successful. Despite the range of features, Devil's Advocate is a very focused record; Clarke is a master of percussion programming, ...

Map Of What Is Effortless CD music
$15.59 Collecting tracks from a number of sessions, including some overseen by Cristian Vogel, Subliminal Kill is a bit of an introduction disc for folks in Europe and elsewhere, though doubtless the band's original Chilean fans might have been wondering what took people so long (and why earlier efforts in France apparently didn't get enough attention!). The general sound of the quintet circa 2005 slots into the post-punk/electro dance revival of the first decade of the 21st century, so likely the smarter DJs are already finding ways to mix this in with their Rapture remixes. But in a way, Pánico calls to mind the underrated spastic explosion of the late great Brainiac -- less emphasis on rocking out and shouted vocals as such, perhaps, but there's the same demented sleaze glee, possibly more understated, in the vocals of Eduardo (aka Eddie Pistolas) that Tim Taylor brought to the fore on Hissing Prigs in Static Couture. ("Anfetaminado" is a prime example.) Interpolated with the pepped-up grooves of the group -- the rhythm section has the fluid, spiky yet minimal thing down, as a casual listen ...
