| | T A T U 200 KM/H In The Wrong Lane CD (2002) Enhanced CD
Tatu - Screaming For More film
$12.49 There's been a lot of hubbub about the marketing tactics of this album by a teenage lesbian female duo, who are pictured in the booklet as frolicking schoolgirls locking all available limbs around each other in their underwear. Still, that doesn't mean that said duo's debut album 200 KM/H IN THE WRONG LANE is lacking in pop hooks or spot-on production. With ace producers like the estimable Trevor Horn on hand, one would scarcely expect otherwise. With most of the album split between straight-ahead dance-pop and a kind of post-Alanis aggro rock tempered by the pair's wispy, Bjork-like voices. It's something of a surprise to be confronted mid-album with a quite faithful cover of the Smiths' beloved paean to misery "How Soon is Now," and no less of a surprise ...

Tatu - Screaming For More DVD
$12.59 Three years after its controversial hit debut, the Russian pop duo T.A.T.U. (AKA Lena Katina and Julia Volkova) released a follow-up, DANGEROUS AND MOVING. Like its predecessor, this 2005 disc is full of electronics-laced, angst-ridden pop/rock that features an undercurrent of Sapphic romance. While the charismatic, emotive vocals of Katina and Volkova carry the record, it also benefits from returning producer Trevor Horn, who lends his trademark gloss to the uber-catchy "Craving (I Only Want What I Can't Have)." Undeniably entertaining, DANGEROUS AND MOVING ...

$15.69 Roland Joffé's unflinching drama recounts the true story of New York Times journalist Sidney Schanberg (Sam Waterston) and Cambodian journalist and translator Dith Pran (Haing S. Ngor), who found themselves trapped in the nightmare of the Khmer Rouge revolution in Cambodia. While stationed in Phnom Penh in the early 1970s, Schanberg and Pran become close friends and confidants, negotiating and writing many groundbreaking stories. When the ruling Lon Nol government is overthrown by the Khmer Rouge, the country is turned upside down--killing is common in the streets, and children become gun-toting informants. Schanberg is forced to flee the country, with his fellow American photographer Al Rockoff (John Malkovich) and British journalist Jon Swain (Julian Sands). Despite their exhaustive efforts to free Pran, they have no choice but to leave him behind. Pran is forced to endure excruciating agony at the Pol Pot death camps, where any shred of individuality or dissent is beaten out of the prisoners. After years of brutal torture, Pran manages to escape and begins a long odyssey to Thailand and the border refugee camps. As Pran struggles to stay alive, Schanberg endures life in New York ...
