This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. On what may very well be the first-ever punk album inspired by the Serenity Prayer, Boston's (actually Charlestown's) native sons Blood for Blood manage to deliver a full program of hardcore that covers a wide range of emotions while staying pretty firmly inside the conventional boundaries of the genre. Serenity's title track, powerful as it is, is not the emotional centerpiece of the album; that honor goes to "Hanging On the Corner," a heartbreaking description of the Charlestown streets that reads as a deeply conflicted cross between celebration and bitter lament. "Live the Lie" is similarly ambivalent; Blood for Blood have been on the hardcore scene long enough now to realize that for all the anthemic paeans to brotherhood and solidarity it generates, the scene isn't actually going to solve anybody's problems, and on this song they simultaneously expose its false promises ("None of you cowards has a thing to say") and urge the crew on to better things ("We should be so much more/This could be something pure"). OK, it's not exactly Kierkegaard, but it's a refreshing change from the knee-jerk straight-edge norm. And just when things start to get a little bit too serious, the band whips out a ripsnorting cover version of Del Shannon's "Runaway." The CD-ROM segment includes an excellent documentary film about the band and the making of Serenity. Highly recommended. ~ Rick Anderson Blood For Blood Serenity Songs Serenity Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Blood For Blood greatest hardcore band ever! I ain't even going to lie i was never really into the hardcore/punk/metal scene but a friend told me about Blood For Blood and there an amazing band. This cd is different than there previous albums. Living In Exhile is my favorite because it's an ubelievable album. It makes you want to go crazy and shatter someone's skull with a baseball bat. These guys have so much intensity and i can really relate to there older stuff because i can really feel where they were coming from. I have the same mentality on life, hating the world, hating society, trying to find a way out of this hell but you have nowhere to go. I've been through some tough times, i've done alot of messed up stuff, messed my life up pretty bad but im older now and trying to salvage whatever's left and get my life together. Blood For Blood is the same and this album kind of defines the point im at in my life now. Lead a screwed up life, made mistakes now looking for serenity. This is a really great album, Blood For Blood really surprised me here especially with "Runaway" covering the old Gary Allen song. "My Jesus Mercy", "Hanging On The Corner", "Serenity", etc. All the songs are great. The albums shows there growth as a band. In my opinion there at there best my only complaint is the album is so damn short. It's only like 17 minutes long. It's more like an EP i guess. All quality songs but for 11-12 bucks it's a little overpriced. Still for it's replay value id recommend it. Check out Livin' In Exhile though. Classic... $10.09 Blood For Blood: Erick "Buddah" Medina (vocals); Rob Lind (guitar, background vocals); Ian McFarland (bass). Recording information: Middle East Club, Boston, MA (01/05/2001). Photographer: Kevin Ward. Blood for Blood is the answer to much of the mainstream hardcore which society is more familiar with. Combining punk, hardcore, and metal, Wasted Youth Brew is a collection of Blood for Blood's rare and hard-to-find tracks, along with a live set. While some of the lyrical material may seem elementary or perhaps obscene with its lyrics of hate and alienation, Wasted Youth ...

Serenity
$15.65 The return of original vocalist Peter Dolving before the Haunted's fourth album, rEVOLVEr, coincided with the respected Swedish metal band's first deliberate effort to break out of their heretofore self-imposed neo-thrash metal boundaries. But for those unadventurous fans who already bristled at that album's tentative forays "out of the box," their 2006 follow-up, The Dead Eye, may sound tantamount to stylistic treason. Here, token samples of the group's once dominant brisk thrashers (instantly recognizable thanks to their fast-picked notes, originating with Anders and Jonas Bjorler's legendary prequel band, At the Gates) like "The Medication," "The Shifter" and "The Stain" are exceptions, not the rule -- mere olive branches extended out of pity to those obstinate fans. The remainder of The Dead Eye (whose every track title stars with a "the" for some reason) finds the band trafficking in a variety of slower tempos (both "The Drowning" and "The Guilt Trip" get seriously doomy), experimenting with novel guitar textures (hear notions of Meshuggah, the Deftones and Isis in "The Cynic" and "The Failure"), and cutting Dolving loose to try all manner ...
| | Benny Goodman 1945-1946 CD (1997)
Serenity
$6.09 Personnel includes: Benny Goodman; Bernie Privin (trumpet); Mike Bryan (guitar); Red Norvo, Teddy Wilson, Mel Powell, Stan Getz. Recorded in Los Angeles, California in January 1946. This CD contains previously unreleased performances by Benny Goodman that were originally recorded for the Armed Forces Radio Service during 1945-46. Four selections feature his short-lived big band of the era and these sport arrangements by Eddie Sauter, Mel Powell and Fletcher Henderson (a reworking of "Somebody Stole My Gal"). In addition to a vocal apiece from Liza Morrow and Art Lund on the orchestra performances, there are solos from trumpeter Bernie Privin and (on two numbers) the young tenor Stan Getz. However, the bulk of this set features Goodman's small group of the era with the clarinetist/leader, vibraphonist Red Norvo and pianst Teddy Wilson getting plenty of solo space. The enjoyable release is not essential but collectors ...

Arranger: Ceasefire. Method men Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland have angled for the mainstream with each of their full-length releases, so it's good to see a mix album from them. It's doubly good, too, when they call on quality breaks brethren from overseas -- Plump DJs, Koma & Bones, ILS, Dylan Rhymes, Hybrid -- for productions. Just like any quality dance mix worth its salt, Community Service starts out a bit slow, but begins cranking it up by ...

| | Jason Lytle Yours Truly, The Commuter CD (2009)
Serenity
$13.79 Personnel: Ariana Murray (vocals). Audio Mixer: Thom Monahan. Recording information: The Warbler, MT. The debut solo album by former Grandaddy frontman Jason Lytle dials back a bit on the spacy psychedelic side of his late, lamented band. A move to rural Montana seems to have triggered a more placid, acoustic, and weathered sound in Lytle's quirky, elegant songwriting. Highlights include the title track, "Rollin' Home Alone," and "Ghost of My Old Dog." Frontman Jason Lytle did much of the heavy lifting throughout Grandaddy's career, juggling the roles of frontman, spokesman, and producer while also penning the band's material. He shouldered even more weight with 2006's Just Like the Fambly Cat, effectively finishing the album himself after the band disintegrated during the recording process. As a result, Lytle sounds confident and relaxed during his first "official" solo release, which explores the signature Grandaddy sound while nodding to Lytle's new home in Montana. Yours Truly, The Commuter is ...
