For his 1996 Glyndebourne staging, radical American director Peter Sellars takes Handel's penultimate English oratorio - a tale of self-sacrificial love between a Christian virgin and a Roman imperial bodyguard in fourth-century, enemy-occupied Antioch - and, by resetting it in modern-day America, transforms it into a timeless parable of spiritual resistance to tyranny and persecution. Starring Dawn Upshaw, David Daniels, Frode Olsen, Richard Croft, and Lorraine Hunt. Revolutionary American director Peter Sellars brings George Frideric Handels classic opera Theodora to the Glyndebourne theatre in England. The story of a Christian Virgin and a Roman Imperial guard is reset in modern day America but retains the effectiveness of it's basic theme of the power of spirituality.
This is the only David Daniels video. Stars also making their debut in this video: Frode Olsen.
