An all-star aggregation similar in conception to Ayreon, Avantasia's The Metal Opera naturally spotlights its creator, Tobias Sammet, who wrote all the music and the involved fantasy storyline over the course of a year as a side project from his main gig with the German power metal band Edguy. Intervision 5 is a young, eclectic, Portland-based quintet, employing disparate elements of soul, rock, and jazz to form their unique pop sound. Earning sonic comparisons to Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, and Jamiroquai, I5 is distinguished by decorative three-part harmonies that flow effortlessly over infectious, undulating grooves. In June of 2005, Intervision 5 completed their debut CD, Inside, at the renowned Kung Fu Bakery in Portland, Oregon. The album features such guest musicians as Hans Teuber (woodwinds/Ani Difranco) and legendary Portland guitarist Dan Balmer, and was co-produced by Grammy winning engineer Bob Stark.
