HOMESONGS is no predictable batch of straightforward strumming and singing, however. The same attention to lush sonic detail that characterizes the work of Fridge and Four Tet (Hebden helped mix this album) is paramount here. Adem's emotive folk, while never losing its sense of immediacy, sports sophisticated arrangements and meticulous production. Bells ("Long Drive Home"), harp ("Pillow"), banjo ("One in a Million"), keys ("Everything You Need"), and varieties of thumping, clattering percussion ("Cut") lend texture and dimension to each of these 10 tracks. HOMESONGS is so subtle and carefully crafted, in fact, that it would be easy to overlook it, which would be a shame for an album this artistic and beautiful.
HOMESONGS is the debut album by Adem Illhan, a member of the post-rock trio Fridge (which also includes Kieran Hebden, whose electronica project is the magnificent Four Tet). Unlike the experimental direction of Fridge, however, Adem's solo outing falls firmly within the singer/songwriter camp, and is imbued with a quiet, intimate intensity. The listener has the feel, for much of the album, of moving in slow motion through Adem's interior geography, a spare landscape of scene-specific memories, regret, and chilling loneliness built around an acoustic guitar and Adem's aching, emotionally vulnerable voice.
Personnel: Adem ; Mike Parker, Marc Meon, Cameron Miller, Joe Goddard, Emma Macfarlane.
Rolling Stone (p.92) - "Ilham uses wooden instruments to make small, sleepy songs that burn like a nightlight, low and soft and distant. His voice is rickety yet warm..." Rolling Stone (No. 968, p.74) - 3 stars out of 5 - "On this lovely album of folk-tronic lullabies, Adem Ilhan's creaky Beck-like vocals are backed by warm acoustic instrumentation recorded at whisper volumes..." CMJ (p.6) - "Warm, airy textures float among the bones of gentle pop songs, while Adem Ilhan croons languidly..." Homesongs Review

Homesongs album
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that ...
| | Mark Lanegan Bubblegum CD (2004)
Homesongs CD music
$12.49 In between the release of FIELD SONGS and its follow-up, BUBBLEGUM, former Screaming Trees singer Mark Lanegan sang for hard-rock heroes both old (a reunited MC5) and new (Queens of the Stone Age), gaining both fans and famous friends in the process. Thus, all eyes were on Lanegan for BUBBLEGUM, which features guest shots by everyone from PJ Harvey and Queens leader Josh Homme to Izzy Stradlin and Duff McKagan of Guns N' Roses. Fortunately, all this attention doesn't seem to have fazed the sandpaper-voiced singer; despite the guest list, BUBBLEGUM is as dirty, gritty, and raw as anything in his catalog.
While much of Lanegan's previous solo work is a mix of languid folk-rock, gutter blues, and the kind of grunge-mutated ...

| | Bright Eyes I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning CD (2005)
Homesongs songs
$11.25 In early 2005, young indie icon Conor Oberst (AKA Bright Eyes) unveiled two full-length albums--I'M WIDE AWAKE, IT'S MORNING and DIGITAL ASH IN A DIGITAL URN. Whereas the latter proved to be a departure into electronic music, the former sticks to Oberst's established sound, which combines the urgency and heart-on-the-sleeve sentiment of emo-rock with twangy, down-home feel of alt-country and folk music.
I'M WIDE AWAKE begins with Oberst telling a story that morphs into "At the Bottom of Everything," ...
| | Antony I Am A Bird Now CD (2005)
Homesongs album
$12.49 Though he probably achieved his greatest mainstream recognition backing up Lou Reed on tour, idiosyncratic songbird Antony is a fully established artiste in his own right. Backed by the Johnsons, as on I AM A BIRD NOW, he crafts delicate ballads that skirt the lines between cabaret, artsong, and pop, with the kind of voice ...

| | Blink 182 Enema Of The State CD (1999) Edited
Homesongs music CDs
$12.65 Blink 182 embodies all the rock & roll verities, from savage, power chord-driven, guitar-bass-and-drums attack to a carefully cultivated tastelessness (see album title and cover art), bolstered by plenty of attitude (the abundance of tattoos doesn't hurt either). The band's post-Green Day pop-punk leaps out of the speakers with zero subtlety and maximum aggression. Guitars alternately blaze and chug over breakneck rhythms, while the vocal melodies pay homage to the time-honored pop hook tradition. Despite the band's four-on-the-floor approach, the arrangements are regulated by careful, radio-minded production for a more accessible sound.
If the title Enema of the State didn't give it away, it should be clear from songs like "Dumpweed," "What's My Age Again?," and "Dysentery Gary" that moving to a major label isn't a sign of maturity for Blink 182. "Dammit (Growing Up)," the first single from their third album, Dude Ranch, brought them a wider audience ...
