Wildflowers album
$7.75 A HARD DAY'S NIGHT presents a fictionalized day in the life of the Beatles as they give a performance on a live television show. Filmed just a month after their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964, this film--the Beatles' first--introduces us to the unique personalities of each member of the band. The film opens with the Fab Four boarding a train mobbed with adoring young fans (mostly women) as they attempt to travel to the television studio in London. The antics of the band during rehearsals and makeup application provide a large part of the comic material in this feature, though there are other moments of pure hilarity. The unscripted vignette featuring ...

| | Halford III: Winter Songs CD (2009) Special Edition; Digipak
Wildflowers album
$13.75 At first glance, Halford's entry into the crowded holiday market looks like a parody. Heavy metal and Christmas make for strange bedfellows, and WINTER SONGS' pastoral cover art -- which depicts Rob Halford staring wistfully (with a goatee and shades) into a soft, snowy pine forest -- screams Spinal Tap. That said, the Judas Priest frontman approaches yuletide standards like "We Three Kings" ...
| | Daughtry Leave This Town CD (2009)
Wildflowers CD music
$15.45 When he was recording his debut album in 2006, Chris Daughtry didn't have the time to assemble the real rock band he so desperately wanted to have, so it appeared under the band name Daughtry without featuring any of the musicians who later became part of the group. That's not the case with LEAVE THIS TOWN, Daughtry's second record: all five members are glowering on the album ...

| | Millencolin No Cigar CD (2001) Extended Play
Wildflowers songs
$9.55 This steaming EP boasts eight tracks, three of which -- "No Cigar," "Penguins & Polarbears," and "Fox" -- previously appeared on Millencolin's Pennybridge Pioneers album. Those first two songs turn up a second time in smoking live versions, recorded in February 2000 at the Hi-Fi Bar in Melbourne, Australia. Place the EP in your computer, and there the pair is again, this time in video form. Thankfully, both songs are strong enough to withstand this multiplicity. Of course Pennybridge raised a lot of fans' eyebrows, as the Swedish quartet shifted away from their previous Two Ton-esque style, and the new songs here fit that more punk-fired mold. Indeed, "Kemp" moves ...

| | Stanley Turrentine The Spoiler CD (1966) Bonus Track; Remastered
Wildflowers music CDs
$8.99 Other than a few short spots, Stanley Turrentine is the only significant soloist on this CD reissue which features a diverse program including "When the Sun Comes Out," "Maybe September," "You're Gonna Hear from Me" and a previously unreleased rendition of Max Roach's jazz waltz "Lonesome Lover." Although he is accompanied by an all-star group that includes trumpeter Blue Mitchell, altoist James Spaulding, baritonist Pepper Adams and pianist McCoy Tyner, Turrentine's sidemen could almost have been anonymous studio players for the tenor is the dominant voice throughout. It is surprising that Pearson did not make more extensive use of the other musicians' unique talents, particularly Tyner. However, despite some potentially indifferent material, Turrentine is in fine form throughout the date, even finding something to say on "Sunny." "La Fiesta" (no relation to the later Chick Corea tune) is the highpoint of a largely enjoyable set. ~ Scott Yanow
