Complete Set album
$11.18 Rockin' is Greg Leskiw's last of three albums with the Guess Who; he came onboard with Kurt Winter for Share the Land and recorded So Long, Bannatyne as well, the two men slipping into the big shoes of Randy Bachman. This finds Burton Cummings in a definite '50s mode, "Running Bear" and "Nashville Sneakers" being throwbacks to another time. When "Herbert's a Loser" kicks, one can't help but feel it's been enough already, "Herbert's a Loser" being the one tune composed by the Winter/Leskiw guitar team. The album predominantly features the songwriting of Cummings, though Kurt Winter does lend a generous hand. As an artistic statement it's all very interesting, but for a band whose bread and butter was the Top 40, this stuff tempts fate a bit too much. Jerry Lee Lewis released an album with the same title the same year, 1972. Lots of artists released albums titled Rockin', in fact: Frankie Laine back in 1957 and the Drifters with Rockin' & Driftin' in 1964, among many, many others. The nostalgia aside, "Heartbroken Bopper" is a true original and an almost-hit single. If you think Aerosmith ripped off David Bowie's "Fame," you're only half right; they stole the melody from the Guess Who: Aerosmith got the melody for "Last Child" directly from "Heartbroken Bopper."
Along with the musical about-face, this is also the darkest Guess Who album, featuring a black-and-white cover and a black-and-white gatefold, and when the band's not back in the past, pre-color TV, they are doing boogie-woogie like "Get Your Ribbons On" or going negative with "Guns, ...
| | Black Eyed Peas E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) CD (2009)
Complete Set CD music
$10.49 Black Eyed Peas, the hip-hop crossover juggernaut that propelled singer Fergie and producer Will.I.Am to superstardom, have, since 2003's ELEPHUNK, been audaciously plugging away at their bombastic but lighthearted style of rap-cum-dance pop--an effort that has translated to a run of successful chart-topping singles including "My Humps," "Pump It," and "Don't Phunk with My Heart." Eager to follow up on the platinum-selling success of 2005's MONKEY BUSINESS, Black Eyed Peas have returned with THE E.N.D. (an acronym for "Energy Never Dies"), their third studio effort. Combining Will.I.Am's thumping 808 kick drum-infused beats with production assistance from a host of collaborators (including vocoder-loving Torontoians ...

| | Alice Cooper Love It To Death CD (1971) Gold
Complete Set album
$20.29 Whereas Alice Cooper's first two studio albums, 1969's PRETTIES FOR YOU and 1970's EASY ACTION, tended more towards the trippy excesses of the hippie era, their next one, 1971's LOVE IT TO DEATH introduced the world to the heavy sound that Cooper would soon be taking to the top. With the invaluable production assistance of future Pink Floyd/Lou Reed cohort Bob Ezrin, LOVE IT TO DEATH proved Alice Cooper's first truly great album, and served as their commercial breakthrough.
That staple of teen alienation, "I'm Eighteen," is the most iconic cut, but every single track on LOVE IT TO DEATH is outstanding. Plenty of other Cooper favorites are included--the candid "Is It My Body," the grim theatrics of "Ballad of Dwight Fry" (a slightly misspelled homage to the horror-film actor), the powerful opener ...

Complete Set CD music
$12.79 With's 2009's MERRIWEATHER POST PAVILION, Animal Collective fully completes its transition from a restless freak-folk act to an assured though still experimental electro-pop ensemble. Like its predecessor, STRAWBERRY JAM, MERRIWEATHER takes plenty of cues from PERSON PITCH, the acclaimed 2007 solo outing by singer/multi-instrumentalist Panda Bear (Noah Lennox), creating a mesmerizing, kaleidoscopic keyboard-heavy sound that ...

| | Paul McCartney Pipes Of Peace CD (1983)
Complete Set songs
$9.89 PIPES OF PEACE also contains "So Bad," a beautiful, smoldering love song that is arguably one of McCartney's most underrated ballads. Though McCartney tries to deliver a big message on the title track, PIPES OF PEACE works best as a pop album and it features a fine mix of upbeat songs and earnest ballads that give McCartney ample opportunity to show off his incomparable voice and peerless musicianship.
PIPES OF PEACE--the 1983 follow-up to McCartney's TUG OF WAR album--was a more pop-oriented outing than its critically-acclaimed predecessor. Recorded with former Beatles producer George Martin and guest musicians like Ringo Starr and jazz bassist Stanley ...
