This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
Young pianist/vocalist Jamie Cullum, made a sizeable splash in a post-Norah Jones world of jazz-influenced, acoustic-leaning singer/songwriters. Whether he's performing "Singin' in the Rain" in a Stevie Wonder style or channeling Jimi Hendrix through Stax via Van Morrison on "Wind Cries Mary," Cullum helps to redefine interpretive singing in the early 21st century on TWENTYSOMETHING. (Who says you can't play a convincing cover of Radiohead's "High and Dry" based on an Ahmad Jamal line?) There is nothing slavish about Cullum's approach, as his soulful swinging and slightly ragged-edged crooning reveal a very musical soul. Playing off Cullum's charming presence, Stewart Levine uses analog production to give the proceedings a deep, warm glow.
Personnel: Jamie Cullum (vocals, accordion, Fender Rhodes piano, Wurlitzer piano, Hammond b-3 organ, Mellotron); John Paricelli (guitar); Alan Barnes (alto saxophone); Ben Castle (tenor saxophone); Martin Shaw (trumpet, flugelhorn); Geoff Gascoyne (bass instrument); Michael Strange (drums); Francis Fuster (percussion).Q (p.44) - "[It] does go nice with Chardonnay and soft furnishings." **Super Audio CD (SACD) Hybrid** This CD will play in standard CD players. A Super Audio CD player is required to take advantage of the SACD sound technology. Jamie Cullum Twentysomething Songs Twentysomething Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Jamie Cullum review Heard Jamie first on a bar jukebox, if ya can believe that. ;-)
The new kid on the global block can sure do a tune justice. I would liken him to/in the Harry Connick Jr. genre, but Harry gets pretty weird at some point on his albums. Jamie does not. Just straight-forward great jazz that won't make your parents blush.
The reason I did not give this a 5 star rating is that there isn't enough piano soloing (unlike Diana Krall, for example). And (though particular tracks escape me), I didn't find some of the cover tunes as enjoyable as I anticipated.
All in all, Jamie Cullum is a fresh contemporary jazz face, and I look forward to purchasing his next album.

incredible style for someone so young this is a great cd. jamie cullum's style is very engaging on both the original songs and the covers. it's fun to listen to someone who obviously enjoys the music. it is also a treat to hear a very different interpretation of familiar songs. if you'd like to try something more interesting than the stuff they usually play on the radio, give this cd a try. Look out You jazzfreaks A youngster from the UK. He gives jazz a new dimension, pickin' up tunes by J.Hendrix and Radiohead. He gives those songs as well as old standards and some own material, good listening.

Twentysomething album
$6.19 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux pas is ...
| | Drive-By Truckers Southern Rock Opera CDs (2001) Digipak
Twentysomething CD music
$11.99 A sprawling two-disc set, the Drive-By Truckers' SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA is a cracked masterpiece that's enjoyable on several different levels. Hipsters might enjoy the giggly premise of a two-disc set devoted to a slightly altered retelling of the rise and fall of 1970s Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd. Progressive rock fans lamenting the modern era's relative lack of story-driven albums divided into "Act I" and "Act II" will latch onto SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA with the same passion with which they embraced THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY. And most importantly, unreconstructed Southern ...
| | Pink Floyd Dark Side Of The Moon CD (1973) SACD Hybrid
Twentysomething music CDs
$15.79 This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
DARK SIDE OF THE MOON was a benchmark record. It turned the musical world on its ear with a hitherto unseen combination of sounds, and changed things considerably for Pink Floyd. For this project, Pink Floyd resurrected older and unfinished numbers, some of which came from the multitude of soundtracks the band members had previously worked on. The film ZABRISKIE POINT, a study of American materialism from a foreigner's perspective, provided "Us and Them" (originally titled "The Violence Sequence"). Waters rewrote "Breathe" after its appearance on his and avant-garde composer Ron Geesin's score for THE BODY, a surreal medical documentary.
Floyd and their long-time engineer, Alan Parsons, used a multitude of sound effects--from stereophonically projected footsteps and planes flying overhead ("On the Run") to a roomful of ringing clocks ("Time"). Further adding to the record's mystique, barely audible spoken passages were sprinkled throughout--a result of hours interviewing random Abbey Road occupants about their views on insanity, violence, and death. Floyd must have struck a nerve: ...

A direct descendant from the pedigree of one of the 20th century's virtuosos, Norah Jones might not be on such a lofty artistic level as her dad Ravi Shankar, but certainly inherited some musical intuition from him. With nary a sitar nor raga within earshot, the young newcomer sounds very much an assimilated, western, 21st century pop-jazz singer. One thing that separates her from the pack is Ms. Jones' own piano stylings--not flashy, but deftly doubling or echoing her voice--that discreetly act as the glue holding together these airy, delicate, and beautiful arrangements.
But the centerpiece is certainly the 22-year-old's confident-beyond-her-years vocal delivery in addition to a precise diction and velvety tone. Shades of Nina Simone, vintage Phoebe Snow, and a less beatnik Rickie Lee Jones are evident throughout as the ...
| | Jamie Cullum Pointless Nostalgic CD (2002)
Twentysomething album
$16.39 With a few hard-to-find releases under his belt, Pointless Nostalgic marks the more widespread debut of piano-pounding British crooner Jamie Cullum. Barely in his twenties, Cullum has a wise old rasp that usually takes decades of chain-smoking to acquire. Cullum's move to mix jazz standards, American songbook classics, and contemporary popular music was a risky one that could easily isolate fans of each genre. However, Cullum managed to find a unifying thread in all of the styles, tying them together in a manner that seemed like the natural culmination of a diverse record collection. Jazz plays heaviest in the mix, but Cullum's version of it is lively and roguish. A rock & roll spirit among erstwhile snobs, he brings blue jeans to the beret set. The only real downfall of the album is that the music is often outmatched by Cullum's pipes to the point of distraction. The blaring horns are too often off-key and grating, detracting from an otherwise well-performed album. Highlights come courtesy of Cullum's diverse and well-chosen array of cover songs. While so many Harry Connick, Jr. wannabes stick to the standards and limply mimic moves lifted from Frank Sinatra's catalog, Cullum hops from Radiohead to Thelonious Monk with equal verve and accomplishment. ...
| | Dredg Catch Without Arms CD (2005)
Twentysomething CD music
$8.49 Early on, critics often described Dredg as a metal group. However, the quartet has since matured into a hard-edged indie-rock ensemble that seeks diversity and refinement in its music. On CATCH WITHOUT ARMS, the band favors highly orchestrated parts, dense guitar riffs, and powerful drumming. Each song is based around memorable vocal hooks and sensitive lyrical content.
Many tracks on CATCH WITHOUT ARMS have a searching quality to them. Despite ...
