Bachatazos Vip album
$11.69 Since the middle of the 1990s, cantante Victor Manuelle has always placed near the top of the Latin charts, given his many recordings and concert tours, and even his co-hosting of the 2006 Latin Grammys. In 2007, he won the Premio Lo Nuestro for Best Salsa Artist. One listen to "Mirame," the opening track -- and first single -- from his Yo Mismo (Myself) album, explains why. This cut, which has caused the album to race up the Billboard Top 200 charts, is the perfect meld of modern salsa and nuevo flamenco. From the acoustic guitars in the first few moments to the skittering claves and drums and brassy horn section that pop in right behind his soulful vocal, the effect is hypnotic, sensual, and arresting. ...

Bachatazos Vip songs
$12.35 Bachata was originally rural and guitar-backed, above all bolero-type songs. It began moving to town a few years back, and has reached the bigtime with this big-deal production. The basics (guitar ensemble, simple percussion, sentimental lyrics, rural associations) have gotten kind of generalized, but it's really fine of its kind, which includes a touch of mbube. ~ John Storm Roberts, Original Music
Recorded at 440 Studio, New York, New York; Audio Proceso, Midilab & Estudios EMCA, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

$38.85 2007 release. Born in Aachen, Germany, David Garrett was a prodigy violin soloist, who had reached and surpassed many an important milestone before his matriculation at Juliard in New York. The child of an American mother and a German father, David's interest in violin began at the age of four, when his older brother received a violin from his father -- who himself was a antique stringed instrument dealer. A year later, David had already won a competition, and by seven was playing in public as often as possible. Within five more years, David had gone ...
| | Better Than Anything: The Quintessential Nnenna Freelon CD (2008)
Bachatazos Vip album
$8.19 Nnenna Freelon has recorded for the Concord label since 1996. Better Than Anything has some of the high points from her first nine years with the company, drawing its dozen selections from six previously released CDs. Freelon had developed into an individual voice and a subtle improviser before she hooked up with Concord but she has grown in depth ever since, being increasingly willing to take chances and stretch herself into other idioms while staying true to her jazz vision. On Better Than Anything, seven of the dozen selections are jazz standards, with "I Say a Little Prayer" and "Balm in Gilead" being among the exceptions. But even such tunes as "Them There Eyes" (taken from a project that had modernized versions of Billie Holiday-associated songs) and "Body and Soul" sound different than expected. The most joyful performance is "Straighten Up and Fly Right," which teams Freelon with Take 6. They should record a full-length project someday. Better Than Anything is an excellent all-round sampler, although Nnenna Freelon's best fans will ...
