| | Elvis Presley Elvis At Sun CD Elvis Presley Discography of CDs
(4 Customer Reviews)
Cited by many historians as the definitive documents of rock & roll's earliest era, Elvis Presley's Sun recordings are cultural milestones arguably as influential as any American music ever created. ELVIS AT SUN supplants THE SUN SESSIONS as the most comprehensive and well-researched single-disc collection of these historic tracks (the two-disc SUNRISE being the ultimate Sun motherlode). Pairing every extant original master tape with modern mastering techniques, the disc provides excellent-sounding versions of these cherished tracks. Ernst Mikael Jorgensen's excellent liner notes detail a wealth of fascinating information, even going so far as to discuss contemporaneous lost recordings.
Of course, the primary focus here is the music itself, which captures the raw energy and chemistry of Presley, bassist Bill Black, and guitarist Scotty Moore (along with visionary producer Sam Phillips) at its most exciting. From the revolutionary country/blues hybrid of "That's All Right" (Elvis's first rock recording) to the Dean Martin-meets-Hank Williams shuffle of "Trying to Get to You," ELVIS AT SUN not only reveals the incredible rate at which Presley's art developed, but gives the listener a close-up experience with one of music's most pivotal periods.

Q (p.130) - 4 stars out of 5 - "[These tracks] see Elvis and his accomplices finding their feet so quickly that they're soon poised admirably close to the cutting-edge." Mojo (Publisher) (p.112) - 5 stars out of 5 - "[A] mutant blend of R&B, bluegrass, Dean Martin-style crooning, country and blues sung by a hugely talented teenager which defined rockabilly and laid the ground for every subsequent rock musician on the planet - it's absolutely unbeatable." Elvis Presley Elvis At Sun Songs Elvis At Sun Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Best sound ever for this material
This is the fourth or fifth go-round for this material on CD. However this release is concise, containing just the original singles, tracks from Elvis first album, and a few later discoveries. There is a very big improvement in sound on this release. BMG located some new masters tapes and all tracks were painstakingly remastered. The big draw here is the historical importance of the material. You can hear the melding of pop, country, blues, R&B, and gospel taking place. With the sound improvement you can really enjoy the performances. Sam Phillips was producer at Sun, and he was looking for a new sound. Elvis' vocals are from another world (check out Mystery Train or Blue Moon), and Scotty DJ And Bill Are staking out new musical territory. It's true that others were the attempting the same fusion, at the time, but none were moere succesful than Elvis and combo. And a year later Elvis helped lead the Rock N, Roll revolution. The Big Bang..... This cd contains the rock n roll equivalent of The Big Bang. When 19 year old Elvis walked into the Sun Studio in 1955, the course of popular music was changed forever. Much has been written and said about The Sun Sessions, but the five decades since its original release has not touched its' incredible vitality. Nobody before or since has surpassed it, and that includes Elvis himself.
How many 19 years old have been able to sing tracks like " Harbour Lights " with such beauty ?
How many could sing " Mystery Train", period..... Submitted by Rob J (Letchworth, Herts) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$10.39 Recorded in Hollywood, California, Chicago, Illinois and London, England.
DECEMBER'S CHILDREN marked a crucial point in the Stones' development. The band was beginning to move away from its blues/R&B roots toward something more uniquely its own. Certainly those roots were far from absent in the songs composed for this album, and the Stones still cover their share of the masters here ...
| | Rolling Stones Let It Bleed CD (1969)
Elvis At Sun
$13.55 The last Stones studio album of the '60s finds the band, for perhaps the first time, accurately reflecting the spirit of its age. The erstwhile bad boy outsiders of rock now found themselves firmly in the center of the social and political post-'68 whirlwind, and faced up to the challenge magnificently. The band's confident climb to its artistic peak ...
| | Elvis Presley CD (2007) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Elvis At Sun
$7.59 When Elvis first broke on the national scene, nobody--not RCA, not Elvis' manager Colonel Tom Parker, and certainly not Elvis himself--had any idea how long his popularity would last. Most assumed that rock and roll was a passing fad and that Presley would soon be relegated to the "where are they now?" bin. Unsurprisingly, RCA rushed Presley's first album to market before Elvis had recorded enough new material for an entire record. The result, ELVIS PRESLEY, is a cut-and-paste job consisting of seven RCA recordings and five older tracks licensed from Sun Records, Presley's first label.
Still, this is a monumental record in the history of rock and roll, from its iconic cover (which The Clash later paid homage to on the cover of LONDON CALLING) to the twelve great tracks to its unprecedented sales figures (it topped the Billboard album charts for 20 weeks). The RCA material includes ...

Elvis At Sun
$9.99 It's kind of shocking to realize that it took Virgin and Paula Abdul six full seasons of American Idol to capitalize on her resurgence of fame, but they finally got around to exploiting her back catalog with the release of the 18-track Greatest Hits: Straight Up! in May 2007, just as the sixth season was about to draw to a close. It is what it says it is: a collection of her greatest hits, all 13 of her Billboard charting singles, plus five other album tracks. Of these, not all of them are huge hits and some aren't even that familiar. Abdul peaked early, with all of her biggest and best hits arriving on her 1988 debut, Forever Your Girl, which contained "Forever Your Girl," "Straight ...
