In a striking return to form, Ministry revisits the sound that it honed to a dangerously sharp edge on 1992's PSALM 69 with 2004's HOUSES OF THE MOLE. While the former album sampled the senior George Bush on the blistering "N.W.O," MOLE (actually printed with an accent over the "e" to rhyme with "holy") uses sound clips of his son George W. Bush on numerous tracks, most blatantly on the none-too-subtly named "No W." Sticking with the "W" theme, all other tracks on MOLE start with that letter, whether it?s the rapid-fire "Waiting" or the lumbering "Wrong." Unsurprisingly, these songs are as subtle as a sledgehammer in both their blunt social commentary and musical attack, with Ministry frontman Al "Alien" Jourgensen gleefully reigning over the proceedings. To make the heavier-than-thou PSALM 69 connection absolutely explicit, Jourgensen follows the album's nine listed songs with 60 more tracks, two of which feature additional sonic mayhem.
Contains sixty untitled tracks following "Worm".
Ministry: Al Jourgensen (vocals, guitar, harmonica, bass instrument, programming); Mike Scaccia (guitar, bass guitar); John Monte (bass instrument); Mark Baker (drums, percussion).CMJ (p.4) - "Ministry's latest album is more of the same hyperfast metal guitar and industrial banging that Al Jourgensen And Co. have become known for....[The album] maintains Jourgensen's presence as the godfather of industrial metal." | 1. | No "W" | |

| Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) Ministry - 'Houses Of The Mole' (Sanctuary) Before I finally landed down a copy of this title,I assumed it was a live CD,as seeing it was released just prior to the fall tour Ministry did just last year. That wasn't the case at all.'Houses Of The Mole' is actually an 'all new' material effort by Al and the crew. However, the front runner of industrial himself had decided to make it a virtual follow up to their 1992 landmark album 'Psalm '69'.Mission was more than accomplished here.Features nine bistering cuts, plus over fifty brief segments of dead silence with two remixes in there somewhere.Total of 69 tracks. This is some piece of work.A must have. got better in a month and a half
now it's my favourite ministry record. it's got the rock, the anger, the humour, the sheer cheek of being - on the surface - a virtual remake of psalm 69... but then actually surpassing it by quite a few miles. if you gave up on al he's proved he's still got it. Ministry...loving it. Well after searching high and low for this CD in Missouri I finally found it today about maybe 4 hours ago and I've been listening to it ever since. I must say the music in this CD is fantastic. This almost sounds like a departure from Animositisomina. The music sounds almost clearer and although Al's voice is not understandable unless you're reading the words, his voice sounds alot clearer as well. The music is a huge return to the old style of Psalm 69 and is a little less techno than Animositisomnia was. Maybe it was a good thing that Paul Barker left because Ministry without him sounds more faster and stronger than ever. It's much more rock and there are many solos to be found on this album. One con though is the continuing George Bush bashing, I'm pro-Bush but I support Ministry's music and I respect thier opinion (this wouldn't be America if I didn't) but the whole "mission" of this album was a direct slap in the face of Bush. It becomes from being a strong political stance to being a silly waste of time. I'll defiently be seeing them on tour, perhaps I should wear a "VOTE BUSH 2004" shirt to really get them to notice me. All in all, this album is truly the best I've heard all year. Submitted by Jake (Imperial, Mo) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Pummelling
What is a Ministry album designed to do? This is pretty much all you need from Big Al. Better than the bulk of metal released in the past two years. Submitted by Zac Pro (Kidderminster, UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
