Pillar: Rob Beckley (vocals); Noah Henson (guitar); Kalel (bass guitar); Lester Estelle (drums). Pillar returns after the success of 2002's Fireproof with Where Do We Go from Here, a further streamlining of the combo's cross of alternative CCM and secular post-grunge chunkery. Elements of rap-rock still exist, particularly in the intonation of vocalist Rob Beckley, but cuts like "Hypnotized," "Bring Me Down," and "Let It Out" are closer to where Pillar is now, opting for the slick and brooding aggression of a Hoobastank or Seether. The band still prefers to preach subtly -- lyrics allude as easily to the Big JC as they do a hearty or faulty earthly relationship. "I want you to know/I finally see/That you simply love," goes "Simply" -- the lyric sheet prints in caps to prevent specific pronoun assignment. The quieter "Rewind" is a similarly first-person meditation on past mistakes, while "Underneath It All" is a propulsive confidence number with some great dirty guitar tones from Noah Henson. Other highlights of this solid effort include the late-album entries "Staring Back" and "One Thing," which offer a bit of grit after the softer detours of Where Do We Go from Here's midsection. It's another quality effort from Pillar, who probably deserve more exposure, as they can hang sonically with any of their mainstream post-grunge peers. ~ Johnny Loftus In the circa 2003-'04 dusk of the rap-rock movement, for such bands to remain contemporary they had to take the leap to melodic vocals. For some, this change still meant waning popularity; for others, it provided a new level of success. In the case of Christian hard-rockers Pillar, the latter proved true, and further developed the group's musical palette. The Kansas quartet's third full-length release, WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE, is its crossover album. From the bitter regret of "Rewind" to the anthemic "Frontline," Pillar's songwriting is straightforward in both execution and intent. "Dirty Little Secret" reveals the shame of addiction, while boasting irresistible riffing courtesy of guitarist Noah Henson. "One Thing" captures the commonality of the human experience, a spiritual touchstone for a band that rests its foundation on meaningful, positive expression. It still rocks and thats pretty much all that matters. A must buy :3 Submitted by Sean (Fort Lauderdale Fl) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
even Pillars not perfect i admit, it's june of 2007 and i've only now heard this CD. it's not their best and their lyrics could use a bit more "Jesusness" to them, but they are still my fav. band. Bloody Sunday is a must hear, and once you hear it, you won't think about life the same. i know they didn't write the song, but singing it is almost as important as writing it. i heard an interview with them on Cubed1 and i think they could probably use a little prayer. to my knowledge, they're still a Christian band, but praying never hurt anybody, right? Best disc I bought this year This is the best disc I have bought all year. I saw them on the P.O.D tour and was so impressed that I bought both their CD'S. I really liked the vocals and the overall guitar sound, real heavy and aggresive. This disc SMOKES!!! Submitted by RICK (Russellville, Ar) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Pillar Review This cd is truly awesome musician playability wise. A very tight band. I would have liked to have heard Jesus mentioned more in the lyrics but I realize from the bio's I've read of the band, they are just not all that versed in the bible or in a message for Christ. My prayer is that Pillar beginning to be played on MTV can be a witness for them that aren't saved. Submitted by ratlifk1 (Columbus, Oh) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Where Do We Go From Here
$7.59 12 Stones: Paul McCoy (vocals); Greg Trammell, Eric Weaver (guitar); Aaron Gainer (drums, background vocals). 12 Stones' sophomore effort aims to capitalize on the recognition brought by Paul McCoy's memorable chorus cameo in the Evanescence monster hit "Bring Me to Life." It opts for a more powerful, guitar-heavy sound than their 2002 debut, and demands maximum radio-friendly compression from returning producer/mixer Dave Fortman. This approach ...
