Tribute To Keith Urban music CDs
$12.55 Although for the rest of his life, underinformed fans of 1990s pop will forever be calling Darius Rucker "Hootie," the former Hootie & the Blowfish singer-songwriter makes his solo debut with a perfectly credible take on mainstream contemporary Nashville country. The laid-back, largely acoustic folk-pop of Hootie & the Blowfish was never that far removed from contemporary country in the first place, so only the fact that Rucker is the first major African-American country star since the heyday of Charley Pride makes the stylistic crossover out of the ordinary. First single "Don't Think I Don't Think About It," a Top 5 hit on the Billboard country charts even prior to the album's release, makes clear how comfortable Rucker is with the blend of the Eagles and the Dixie Chicks that is contemporary country radio, and tracks like "History in the Making" and "Forever Road" are equally fine examples of the form.

| | Rascal Flatts Unstoppable CD (2009)
Tribute To Keith Urban album
$14.75 If there's a candidate for the Eagles of the 21st century, it's surely Rascal Flatts, with their seamless blend of country, rock, and pop, and their discography of multi-platinum albums hitting the top of both the country and pop charts. Their sixth album, UNSTOPPABLE, makes the aforementioned blend so smooth that only the most stubborn pigeonholer would still label them a country act. If not for the recurring pedal-steel swells and the occasional vocal twang, there'd be nothing keeping UNSTOPPABLE from being a straight-up mainstream pop album. The preponderance of big, bold power ballads should appeal to fans of, say, Bryan Adams or Sheryl Crow just as easily as country cultists. In that sense, Rascal Flatts have clearly become the ultimate musical centrists of their era.
Composer: Jonathan Yudkin.
Personnel: Dann Huff (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, banjo, mandolin); Joe Don Rooney, Ilya Toshinsky, Tom Bukovac (acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Adam Shoenfeld (electric guitar); Dan Dugmore, Paul Franklin (steel guitar); Charles ...
| | Brooks & Dunn #1's... And Then Some CDs (2009)
Tribute To Keith Urban CD music
$12.39 Three weeks before the release of this double-disc best-of-and-then-some collection, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn, who as Brooks & Dunn were one of the most successful duos in country music history, decided to call it a day after 19 years, 40 singles (half of which topped the country charts), ten studio albums, and a slew of awards. As far as the industry was concerned, they went out on top. #1s... AND THEN SOME contains 30 tracks spread over two discs and includes two new songs. Disc One opens with Ronnie Dunn and Terry McBride's barroom/stadium rock killer "Honky Tonk Stomp," which features special guest guitar blazer Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, and Disc Two opens with the pair's own "Indian Summer," a midtempo ballad that's as fine a summation of their collective career as listeners are likely to get. Dozens of familiar cuts are here, from B & D's first smash "Boot Scootin' Boogie" to the gorgeous cover of B.W. Stevenson's "My Maria" plus a slew of other hits and B-side--including "Cowgirls Don't Cry" and "If You See Him/If You See Her," both with Reba McEntire. ...

$13.79 ACROSS THE AIRWAVES is a 1982 best-of album from hard-rock titans Marc Bolan and T. Rex, offering 21 songs highlighted by "Jeepster," "Ride a White Swan," and "Hot Love."
Marc Bolan and T. Rex performed many times for a variety of radio broadcasts. Across the Airwaves is a compilation of these performances, recorded and broadcast circa 1968-71. This is easily one of the best T. Rex titles out there, yet it's becoming increasingly hard to find. The disc features acoustic, electric, and electric-acoustic performances of some of Bolan's best compositions -- not all well-known hits, but excellent just the same. His Top of the Pops acoustic sets of early material ...

| | Simon & Garfunkel Sounds Of Silence CD (1966) Bonus Tracks; Japan
Tribute To Keith Urban music CDs
$24.45 Though it was their second album, SOUNDS OF SILENCE was the record that introduced Simon & Garfunkel to the world at large. When the original, acoustic version of the title tune (included on the debut album) was given a rock sheen here, courtesy of a hastily added electric backing track, folk-rock was invented, and Paul and Art were catapulted to superstardom. The songs here follow in that electrified direction for the most part, with the widescreen irony of "Blessed" buoyed by plangent guitar and drums, and the paranoid "Somewhere They Can't Find Me" pushed to neurotic extremes by an insistent rhythm section.
SOUNDS OF SILENCE marked the introduction proper of Simon as sensitive song poet: intellectual, well-read, politely iconoclastic, self-consciously poetic--the perfect '60s folk-pop idol. Fortunately, Simon's melodic and lyrical prowess and the duo's beautiful ...
