Oxygène 7-13 continues where Jean-Michel Jarre left off 20 years before, that is, with the last track ("Part 6") of 1977's Oxygène. Much had changed in the interim, for both Jarre and synthesizer technology. The result is a set of up-tempo, highly melodic electronic trance reminiscent of Steve Hillage's work of the time, as well as German trance producers like Sven Väth. Though it will sound best to those already familiar with his music, Jarre's influence was considerable, and he continued to prove it into the late '90s. ~ John Bush
Personnel: Jean Michel Jarre (Mellotron, keyboards, synthesizer, programming, Theremin); Francis Rimbert (keyboards); Christian Sales (programming, sound effects).

Oxygene 7-13
$16.55 Released in 1976, OXYGENE proved to be a massive hit for French electronic musician Jean-Michel Jarre. The son of film composer Maurice Jarre, the synthesizer player sought to create warmer sonic textures through the technology of the time, and the result was this pioneering six-part album. OXYGENE's bizarrely creepy cover, featuring a skull underneath the peeled-away surface of the globe, belies the music's lush beauty, though it does point to haunting moments such as "Oxygene III." The record's most recognizable track is the majestic "Oxygene IV," which features percolating synth lines and spare, nearly imperceptible beats. While the album would lead Jarre to international fame, especially in his native France and the rest of Europe, it also proved to be a recording that he struggled to top, even going so far as to release a sequel, OXYGENE 7-13, more than 20 years later. For aficionados of late-'70s electronic acts such as Tangerine Dream and Vangelis, this bold outing is essential.
One of the pioneers of electronic music, Jean Michel Jarre has arguably done more to popularize ...

Oxygene 7-13
$9.89 On the first departure of his career since 1977's Oxygène, Jean Michel Jarre combined an actual band and processed vocal samples -- recorded in 25 different languages -- with his rich, melodic synthesizer pop. The rhythm is often propelled by guttural vocal snippets, as on "Ethnicolor" and "Zoolookologie." That's not half as disconcerting for those used to his previous work as the album's art-funk backing: Adrian Belew on guitar, Marcus Miller on bass, and Yogi Horton on drums, plus Laurie Anderson on one track. Though Zoolook is interesting throughout, the tracks with Jarre alone are often the best, reprising the classic Oxygène sound. ~ John Bush

| | Jean-Michel Jarre En Attendant Cousteau CD (1990) (Import) France
Oxygene 7-13
$16.55 The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau has been one of television's most celebrated programs of all time. Jean Michel Jarre, a countryman of Jacques Cousteau, composed and performed an e-music opus on honor of the oceanographer. En Attendant Cousteau is a departure from Jarre's usual format. This disc has three tracks that are longer than his normal tracks. (They are between six and nine minutes.) The fourth track is a major work clocking in at 47 minutes. That track, "En Attendant Cousteau," is an epic minimalist creation. This is groundbreaking stuff, an unusual mode for Jarre. Jarre has not gone this far out on a limb since his debut in 1976. It is a worthy risk. The atmospheric minimalism of the title track is deep ...

| | Lynnette Suzanne Coming Home CD (2007)
Oxygene 7-13
$11.39 Lynnette Suzanne is proud to offer, “Coming Homeâ€, her first album featuring some of her favorite instruments: the Native American Flute and West African Drums. She enjoys playing and performing on these instruments with the Sehwe Village Percussion group and as a solo artist. For Lynnette these instruments best express her journey of searching for something, getting out there in the mix, discovering new life lessons and ways of being, getting pulled under, getting lost, finding your way back home to yourself, and celebrating the whole crazy journey. Coming Home is a very personal CD and was created during her journey through grief after losing her brother, Keith, in September of 2005. Anyone who has been through a loss of any kind will find moments that speak to them particularly in some of the solo Native American Flute tracks. However, the album is not solemn but often very uplifting with its infusion of African Drumming and the life affirming rhythms of West Africa. The Native American Flute is sometimes featured alone with its evocative, mysterious beauty that soothes and captivates. At ...
