Closed Captioned; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English; Dolby Digital 5.1 Re Professional hit man Philip Raven is out for revenge when he is double-crossed by his latest client, Willard Gates. Assisting Raven is a beautiful blonde investigating Gates' plan to sell chemical weapons to the Japanese. In this classic tough-guy film noir, genre mainstay Alan Ladd plays Philip Raven, a double-crossed gun-for-hire who is out for revenge. Veronica Lake is Ellen Graham, his platinum blond bombshell companion. Raven is kind to everyone that's not a target but, after he kills an extortionist and receives stolen money in compensation, he himself becomes the target of a Senate investigation that ultimately puts Ellen in his crosshairs. "This Gun for Hire" was the first screen pairing of Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake.
Film was remade in 1957 as "Short Cut to Hell" (directed by James Cagney) and in 1991 as the made-for-TV movie "This Gun for Hire" (starring Robert Wagner).
Additional cast: Pamela Blake (as Annie), Roger Imhoff (Senator), Victor Killian (Brewster's secretary), Bernadene Hayes (Baker's secretary), James Farley (Night watchman), and Virita Campbell (Cripple girl). This Gun For Hire Movie Review Average Rating: (3 out of 5 stars) gun for hire good, limited violence, no sex no profanity- good movie Submitted by free_lansing (mission tx) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Introducing Alan Ladd In what must have been his first movie, or, at least, his first starring role, Alan Ladd is a hired killer who is double crossed by the drug firm who hired him. Along the way, he meets Veronica Lake, who plays a singing magician, but a good girl just the same.
The story is rather loosely woven, and predictable, but enjoyable. Submitted by Charlie (Bensenville, IL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$9.69 This relatively little-known film is widely hailed by fans of the macabre. Truly ahead of its time, NIGHTMARE ALLEY is set in the gritty, surrealistic world of traveling carnivals, where eccentric people of all possible varieties interact on a daily basis. In a departure from his usual roles as the Hollywood leading man, handsome Tyrone Power plays a morally questionable circus apprentice determined to climb the carnival ladder no matter what the price. Powers shows immense range in what was arguably his finest role ever as the sometimes unrecognizably scruffy circus man with a liking for the bottle. Director Edmund Goulding (DARK VICTORY) gives the carnival setting a dark, somber feel that contradicts the film's more upbeat ending. In spite of this ending tacked on by the studio system, NIGHTMARE ALLEY ...

This Gun For Hire DVD
$8.35 Produced by the legendary exploitation filmmaker Harry P. Novak, A SCREAM IN THE STREETS is the story of 2 undercover cops who hate the "human scum" who are wreaking havoc in the underbelly of Los Angeles. From a voyeur obessessed with lesbian housewives to a sex-crazed serial killer, these freaks are nearly impossible to stop. A campy world of starlets, sex, and carnage, A SCREAM IN THE STREETS is 1970's exploitation at its most outrageous.
Plainclothes cops Eddie Haskell and Bob Streeker hate freaks. No, not the sideshow kind. The "freaks" they're after are the criminal scum running amok in Los Angeles--like the neighborhood voyeur who peeps on lesbian housewives, and the slimy sadist who goes berserk at a massage parlor. But Number 1 on their hit list is a cheerful serial killer whose hobby is hacking up ladies in a local park. Geared for the seventies drive-in crowd, "A Scream in ...

Enemy and friendly planes alike are shot ...

$7.89 Movie fans with a penchant for blood and guts should find their macabre tastes wonderfully satiated by schlock-horror film THE JANITOR. Directed by TJ Nordaker and Andy Signore, the film follows the exploits of a demented janitor named Lionel (played by Signore), who goes on a kill-crazy rampage after being hired to work among the buxom residents of a sorority house. Humor and horror meld into a glorious, yucky mess as THE JANITOR progresses, and Troma fans will be happy to find that Lloyd Kaufman makes a brief appearance as a homeless bum.
Lionel, The Janitor, is bombarded daily with disrespect and insults from co-workers his bloody ...
