Merveilleuse Edith Piaf
$11.55 There is a certain other-worldliness to the musical landscapes created by the artist also known as Michael Cretu. With Enigma, he is known for pioneering the synergy of traditional and world music with dance and electronica. Cretu's craftwork could be described as having taken ground broken by Tangerine Dream and adding mystic spirituality.
"The Gate" opens dramatically with a classical-sounding chorus, then sliding into a combination of spoken and hauntingly sung vocals. Disguised as a modern pop song, "Push the Limits" does just that with powerful orchestration. "Camera Obscura" fuses Renaissance-era chorale with a pulsing dance groove and vocals that are played backwards. The results are almost beyond description. ...
| | Amethystium Odonata CD (2001)
Merveilleuse Edith Piaf
$12.75 This is the debut album from Amethystium which received a groundswell of support from online listeners, to the tune of a half million downloads before its official release. The album is attributed to Oystein Ramfjord, a composer from Norway who makes ambient electronic music full of mystifying sounds. The opening song, "Opaque," begins with an incredible underwater sonar pulse that makes way for passages of Indian vocals that are very reminiscent of Deep Forest. In fact, most songs employ well-crafted samples of ethnic music from disparate regions. These are held together by a steady synth percussion and sweeping vocals. The speaker phasing on "Enchantment" is ...
| | Amethystium Evermind CD (2004) Digipak
Merveilleuse Edith Piaf
$13.49 Amethystium, the recording moniker for keyboardist/composer Oystein Ramfjord, makes lavish, sweeping, New Age music by combining ethereal synth effects with pulsing beats and majestic themes. EVERMIND stays true to the Amethystium formula--the music here is like the soundtrack to some as-yet-unmade film of fantasy and adventure.
Expansive imaginary landscapes unfold on EVERMIND, pulling the listener through dark locations ...

| | Gary Numan Jagged CD (2006)
Merveilleuse Edith Piaf
$12.95 On 2006's JAGGED, influential synth-pop artist Gary Numan is firmly entrenched in the dark side. This ominous studio outing finds the British singer/multi-instrumentalist focused on atmosphere more than catchy hooks (a la his lone hit "Cars"), seemingly picking up where David Bowie left off on 1995's OUTSIDE (minus that disc's busy narrative conceit). Numan is clearly committed to weighty industrial arrangements on this album, as best evidenced on the heavy, brooding "Halo," which washes listeners in a wave of distorted guitar lines and pounding rhythms. Perhaps more than any other Numan release, this disc will appeal to metal and Goth fans, revealing that ...
| | Axiom Of Choice Niya Yesh CD (2000)
Merveilleuse Edith Piaf
$11.79 Axiom of Choice is a 12-piece band of richly gifted musicians. Their debut CD, Niya Yesh, was inspired by the city of Pushkar, India. "Niya yesh" means "a direct communion with God." This is a wonderful set of deeply spiritual and religious offerings. In order to foster deeper synthesis with the collaborators, they recorded this set in India, the Middle East, and the U.S.A. Mamek Khadem, lead vocalist, and Loga Ramin Torkian, guitarist, wrote all of the original music and lyrics. They appear to be the "core" of Axiom of Choice. Some of the more notable guests are Greg Ellis (of Vas) on percussion, Cameron Stone (also of Vas) on cello, and Dave Stringer on harmonium, vocals, and tempura. The other performers are not as well known, but the music shows that the talent is deep and rich. It is easy to get lost in this soundscape. ~ Jim Brenholts

| | Ron Clearfield Dream Manifestation CD (1998)
Merveilleuse Edith Piaf
$13.25 This accomplished cellist plays with The Florida Symphony Orchestra, and on this second effort, combines his sterling classical background with beautiful keyboard arrangements. The mixture of strings, pianos and light electronic orchestration will make for perfect in-store listening. The second album by this symphony cellist from Florida is a celebration of the beauty of the planet and of humanity's aspirations for peace and harmony. Playing piano and synthesizers as well as cello, Ron Clearfield is joined by other musicians on reeds, flute, harp and percussion to create gentle and uplifting melodies that combine the elegance of classical music with the warmth and expansiveness of New Age. The crown jewel of the album is the nine-minute ...
