Metal Church: Steve Unger (bass guitar); Kirk Arrington (drums); Jay Reynolds, Kurdt Vanderhoof, Ronny Munroe. Personnel: Ronny Munroe (vocals); Jay Reynolds, Kurdt Vanderhoof (guitar); Kirk Arrington (drums). Audio Mixers: Kurdt Vanderhoof; Mark Greer. Recording information: The English Channel, WA. Ah, Metal Church. Once one of America's most promising heavy metal bands, originally colleagues (rivals, even) of the mighty Metallica -- has any other band's career been as marked by internal chaos, confusion, and, let's face it, commercial indifference, as that of these Seattle natives? The odds are slim, and yet, conversely, has any metal outfit proved as doggone persistent at the same time? Surely that must count for something, and with the realization that 2004's The Weight of the World amazingly celebrates the group's 20th anniversary (even though it's only their seventh studio album in all that time), there's at least some cause for celebration -- right? Well, if truth be told, that'll depend on the listener. Most of the expected Metal Church trademarks (pure American metal charged with occasional thrashing nuances) are readily available here -- as are the band's maddening tendencies for songwriting inconsistency, matching every memorable turn like "Hero's Soul" or "Sunless Sky" with an equally forgettable outing like "Wings of Tomorrow" or "Bomb to Drop." Never mind that original vocalist David Wayne has once again departed from the fold (after taking part in the nearly-complete classic lineup reunion seen on 1999's Masterpeace) and left lone remaining founders, guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof and drummer Kirk Arrington, to pick up the pieces; new recruits Ronny Munroe (vocals), Jay Reynolds (guitar) and Steve Unger (bass) acquit themselves ably enough, for the most part. If anything, the only weak link is Munroe, whose echo-enhanced presence is curiously reminiscent of Saxon's Biff Byford, but doesn't always have the power or presence to match the surrounding onslaught. And still, longtime supporters will most likely enjoy almost all of the songs they hear here as prototypical Metal Church -- which leaves less enthusiastic old-timers and new arrivals alike left to ponder what all the fuss was about. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia Weight Of The World Music Metal Church Weight Of The World Songs | 1. | Leave Them Behind |

| Weight Of The World Music Weight Of The World Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Prog/Heavy Metal Wasn't sure what to expect from this one after reading a few reviews. This is a quality old school metal cd (not too many of those these days). M.C. still kick butt, but this one is a bit more progressive.Best way to explain is maybe old Fates Warning or Old Iron Maiden...??? Another reviewer mentioned in the style of "Hanging In The Balance" or "Human Factor" sound. That's a pretty good comparison. The new singer's vocal delivery is closer to Zakk Stevens (Savatage) or Bruce D (Iron Maiden). Tracks 1-7 are killer. The last couple are really good, but venture into a "80's metal" type of category. Not hair metal, but big chorus metal (whatever that means). Picks: "Leave Them Behind", "Weight of the World", "Madman's Overture", "Sunless Sky". I do prefer the last couple of M.C. cd's (mentioned earlier), but this cd is a very interesting listen. It keeps making it's way back into the cd player. Submitted by descendencyfw (DE, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Church is back in session Metal fans, church is back in session.
It is great to see that Vandy has got
the band back together and is sticking
with what brung'em!........Metal.
Great guitar licks and solo's throughout
the entire album. R. Munroe is a nice
addition to the vocals. His opera style
vocals are a nice touch and not too
overwhelming. He belts out the screams
similar to our friend Reverend Wayne. I
find his vocals a close call to James
Rivera of Seven Witches.
One gripe I have is that they list a
bunch of shout outs to people who
have been supportive and to ex- Church
band mates. I found it petty that they
(Kurdt V.) didnt list D.Wayne. David
Wayne a key player in Churches early
albums and has nothing but respect for this band and for what they stand for...
But I digress. Pick it up,it's a keeper.
smoking tunes: Hero's soul, madman's overture, sunless sky's, cradle to the ggrave.

Another vocal replacement? (Yawn) Is this the new Saxon? No? Okay then, is it the new Blaze? No? Oh, it's Metal Church? Oh, who cares. Average at best. Kinda boring. Submitted by Piranha (Midwest) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful.

Weight Of The World
$13.69 Roney caught the groove-bugearly in life when at age 3 he was exposed to secular artists in his parents’ collection such as Stevie Wonder, Parliament Funkadelic, and the Jackson Five, as well as Gospel icons such as James Cleveland, the Hawkins Family; and later on, Fred Hammond and Kirk Franklin. At age 4 Roney was fascinated with the drums, which he playing throughout this childhood and into his teen years.
