When Peter Gabriel left Genesis in 1975 the critics claimed the band would wither and die. Phil Collins stepped out from behind the drum kit and the revitalised Genesis produced an amazing series of albums, which bridged the divide between art rock and commercialism. Using the actual words of the band and critics, Inside Genesis is the definitive critical review of the music of Genesis from Trick of the Tail to Duke. A period which saw Genesis grow from progressive icons to become one of the biggest grossing acts in the world. This DVD features Rare concert performances from the Duke tour as well as previously unreleased interviews with the band. A crucial turning point in the careers of Genesis came in 1975, when Peter Gabriel quit the band and drummer Phil Collins assumed vocal duties. This documentary takes a look at a tumultuous time for the band, which resulted in them becoming bigger than ever before. Collins' commercial savvy saw the group deftly combine their psychedelic leanings with a populist edge, leading them out of the clubs and into the stadiums of the world.

Genesis - Inside Genesis: 1975-1980 Movie Review Average Rating: (2.4 out of 5 stars) Lots of lies in the commentary Genesis did not get better but worse when Steve Hackett and Peter Gabriel left. They lost actual talent in the band and then resorted to the overusage of machines to replace the writting area of Pete and Steve. Chester Thomson and Daryl Stuermer were not great addition to the band, since they did not write and they were not that great as far as playing either. This DVD is very very controversial. There needs to be a counter DVD proving that Genesis was better with Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett, as they did not need to resort to machines and cheap players to show their talent. yack yack yack.... There isn't much music on this dvd just talking. But the talking is all not true as Genesis ended as a rock band after Steve Hackett left the band. Submitted by micheal (sussex, nj) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
So So When Steve Hackett left in 1977 is when Genesis went to trash completely. There were some good albums like Trick of the Tail, Wind and Wuthering, and And Then There were Three. Also the solo Albums Steve Hackett's Voyage of the Acolyte(1975) Tony Banks, A Curious Feeling(1979), Mike Rutherford's Smallcreeps Day(1980), and Phil's Brand X, Product(1979). Duke signaled the end of Genesis as a rock band with any credibility. Submitted by up (Pais France) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

Too much chatter Overall this is an outstanding addition to any Genesis collection, the concert footage is fantastic. The interviews with mostly no name musicians and critics is worthless and the fact that the interviews are cut into the concert material is annoying. Despite the downsides I am greatly pleased to finally see the band performanc previous to Three Sides Live. Submitted by KWilson (Texas) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Genesis - Inside Genesis: 1975-1980 review
$11.79 FROM LUXURY TO HEARTACHE is a 13-track release by U.K. pop quartet Culture Club, featuring "Move Away," "I Pray," and "Gusto Blusto." For their fourth album, From Luxury to Heartache, Culture Club jettisoned producer Steve Levine in favor of pop/R&B veteran Arif Mardin, seeking to reverse the commercial decline they had suffered with their third album. When the danceable leadoff track, "Move Away," rose into the singles chart, that seemed like a good decision, and the rest of the album followed through with a pronounced drum sound and a relentless beat. The group's flamboyance was played down in an attempt to redefine Culture Club as dancefloor favorites. But previously the group had enjoyed a broad-based pop appeal, and by focusing on one part of their constituency, they ultimately sacrificed the rest. What's more, to make this kind of music, you didn't need a group; all you needed was a lead singer and some synthesizers. No wonder Boy George went solo before the year was out. ~ William ...
