For a group that has reportedly sold 37 million recordings, precious few of the Chuck Wagon Gang's classic Columbia recordings have been reissued on CD. Music Mill remedies that situation with Looking for a City, a budget collection containing ten cuts from 1936-1966. The Chuck Wagon Gang's country gospel sound is plain and unadorned, performed by the vocal quartet with a simple guitar for accompaniment; there are no instrumental breaks and none of the modulation or vocal histrionics heard in black gospel. More similar in style to the Brown's Ferry Four than the Carter Family, the Chuck Wagon Gang were conservative with their sound to such a degree that when "Lord, Lead Me Home," from 1966, follows "The Church in the Wildwood," recorded in 1936, the transition is seamless. The songs are mostly well-known ones, including several Albert E. Brumley hymns. Only one of these songs was included on the 1985 anthology Columbia Historic Edition, which has yet to appear on CD. Looking for a City was released in tandem with I'll Fly Away, a similar collection that does not overlap. ~ Greg Adams Chuck Wagon Gang Looking For A City Songs Looking For A City Music Review Purchase Looking For A City CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Chuck Wagon Gang Headed For The Promised Land CD (1995)

| | Patty Loveless Sleepless Nights CD (2008)
Looking For A City album
$15.65 Many contemporary country artists have tackled an album's worth of old-school country classics in an opportunistic way, but Patty Loveless comes by her roots honestly on SLEEPLESS NIGHTS. These are the songs she heard from her music-loving parents in her Kentucky childhood, and the songs she sang with her brother in ...

$12.95 No doubt issued to align with the mid-2006 release of Over It's first major-label offering, Negative Progression Records has had the courtesy to remix and remaster the band's 2001 debut, The Ready Series, for a proper reissue ŕ la Welcome to Virginia: The Ready Series. This 12-song set is pretty much the standard issue emo-leaning pop-punk that bands like Rufio and early Saves the Day specialize in, and there's not too much here to distinguish Over It from the rest of ...

$9.75 Tickets went on sale at 10 am. At 5 am, Tom Brown was first in line. Soon after, Todd arrived and was second in line. The line was fore the Jerry Garcia Band, Halloween 1994. The two started chatting about past shows, the state of the Dead scene, and the possibility of the two guitar players getting together to have fun and jam. Thus was borne a series of friendships culminating into Midnight Rain. Tom (lead and rhythm guitar, vocals) and Todd (lead and rhythm guitar, vocals) started getting together on a regular basis. Soon thereafter the two were temporarily joined by several local area veteran musicians and soon began hitting the northern Jersey club scene playing the music of the Grateful Dead and other San Francisco acts. Original tunes were often slipped into the extended set lists. In the winter of ’95 Karen Lauber joined up, adding rich melodies and sweet harmonies to tunes such as “And it Stoned Me” and “Sugaree”. Karen also took the lead vocal spot on many other songs. Midnight Rain quickly gained popularity by playing the north Jersey club scene; such places include Images in Pearl River, NY and Hobson’s Choice in Hoboken, NJ. Some gigs included opening for RCA recording artists From Good Homes, Rob Wasserman, Steve Perkins (Janes Addiction) as well as Vince Welnick of the Grateful Dead and Tubes fame , and making new friend Buddy Cage [of The New Riders of the Purple Sage] who would sit in on pedal steel guitar . Midnight Rain went on to play for the cable television program “Tom Sullivan Show”, and received front page coverage from the Dateline News Journal. They also played for many of the REX Foundation, the NJ Veterans Society and the Earth Day/Organic Farming benefits. Midnight Rain took a short break and now have added original members, Matt Michura on drums, and Kelly Smith on keyboards, as well as Joe McKenna on bass. In addition, Jen Lepre has re-joined the band in place of karen on vocals. Jen\'s strong and flexible voice ass a new dimension to the music. They are recording a new album due out in early 2009.About \"Predicting the Weather\": \"True country hippie jam pop with a touch of hillbilly and rock thrown in, Midnight Rain\'s debut outing, Predicting the Weather, is sure to bring a smile to your face. Its Grateful Dead-like lyrics, harmonic vocals, and exquisite musicianship make this a beatific listen. Joyous songwriting and labyrinthian guitar interplay between poly-rhythmic guitarist Brown, Garcia-like lead guitarist Dickman, dexterous bassist Norgren, and the Grammy award winning stellar talent of Buddy Cage (of The New Riders of the Purple Sage and Dylan\'s \"Blood on the Tracks\" stardom) make this a must-have CD for any aspiring stringed instrument player.
