| | VH1: I Love The 80'S CD
For pop fans that have been overwhelmed by a goopy wave of nostalgia for skinny ties, spiky haircuts, and sleeveless T-shirts, VH1's I LOVE THE '80s should prove to be the perfect mix. These 14 chart-busting hits cover everything from industry-tailored power-pop (the Knack's "My Sharona") to celebratory anthems from singers with orange hair (Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"), and will have listeners reaching for their hair gel in no time.
The truth is, the 1980s come off looking pretty good--musically speaking--within the bounds of this compilation. Alongside the obligatory feel-good anthems such as Joey Scarbury's "Theme from 'Greatest American Hero' (Believe It or Not)" and Bobby McFerrin's irrepressible "Don't Worry Be Happy," there is a fine sampling of New Wave-influenced sounds. The Vapor's enigmatic "Turning Japanese" still packs a punch, as do "Our House," Madness's kooky masterpiece, and the Waitresses' jerky "Square Pegs." Solid grooves are not overlooked on INXS's "New Sensation" and the B-52's "Love Shack," but the disc's highlights have to be Grandmaster Flash's "The Message" and 'Til Tuesday's truly beautiful "Voices Carry" (superb songs in any decade).

VH1: I Love The 80'S album
$15.95 For all the multi-cultural hippie freedom Sly and the Family Stone stood for in their pre-RIOT glory days, frontman Sly Stone was smart and talented enough to know that it was through catchy pop singles that his band's message would gain its widest dissemination. All 11 of Sly and the Family Stone's Top 40 hits are here (some of which, like "Hot Fun in the Summertime" and "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" were never on LPs back in the day), along with nearly ...

If punk rejected pop history, LONDON CALLING reclaimed it, albeit with a knowing perspective. The scope of this double set is breathtaking, encompassing reggae, rockabilly, and the group's own furious mettle. Such a combination might seem over-ambitious, but the Clash accomplish it with swaggering panache. Guy Stevens, who produced the group's first demos, returns to the helm to provide a confident, cohesive sound equal to the set's brilliant array of material. ...
| | Pink Floyd Oh By The Way Box Set CDs (2007) Box Set
VH1: I Love The 80'S songs
$215.19 The mammoth 16-disc box set OH BY THE WAY was released to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Pink Floyd's first album. It contains every one of Floyd's studio albums, each packaged in a miniature-LP-style sleeve. It's the most exhaustive overview one could ask for, chronicling the band's beginnings as pioneering psychedelic scenemakers through their '70s tenure as prog-rock merchants and their latter-day reincarnation as grand old men of British rock.
While rarities-seekers should be advised of the lack of bonus/previously unreleased tracks here, there's so much dazzling material that it doesn't really matter. Pink Floyd were the original psychedelic space cadets, and the thrill of their early acid-rock forays under Syd Barrett's baton is all the more intense when it brushes up against Roger Waters-helmed concept pieces like ATOM HEART MOTHER and DARK SIDE OF THE MOON. The band's post-Waters material adds a dignified final chapter to the story, with David ...

| | Motley Crue Too Fast For Love CD (1981)
VH1: I Love The 80'S CD music
$10.69 Motley Crue led the early 80's glam metal movement in L.A. Borrowing elements of theatrical arena-rock from Kiss, trashy glam from The New York Dolls, and pop sensibilities from Cheap Trick, the Crue eventually became one of the most popular rock bands of the decade. TOO FAST FOR LOVE, the band's debut, was first released independently but was soon remixed and reissued on Elektra. The music and its message may have been simple, but the metal underground immediately took notice of the Crue and its crude debut, and the group broke into the big-time with its next release, SHOUT ...
