With STREET SIGNS, Ozomatli has made the kind of album that Robert Plant, Peter Gabriel, and Santana are all known for, by combining an expansive worldview, both politically and musically, with catchy and engaging songs. On this record, the Los Angeles group (one-time collaborators of the aforementioned Santana) presents an aesthetic that fuses 21st-century salsa with urban sounds and social commentary, particularly on "Dejame En Paz" and "(Who Discovered) America?" Ozomatli expands on its global grooves with the cumin-laced, Middle-Eastern flavor of "Believe" and the dance-hall rhythms of "Who's to Blame." Rounding out STREET SIGNS is the pop-perfect "Love and Hope," which, in an ideal world, would rival Santana's hit "Smooth" for popularity.

Ozomatli is sick. This is their best of three albums. Check them all out though. Hip hop, salsa, funk and seamless. Listen to it over and over and when you think you've had enough, go listen to them all live when they come to your city and get stupid with all the rest of their fans, singing and dancing like crazy.. Street Signs album
$15.35 Taking their moniker from the Aztec monkey god of dance, Ozomatli displays every bit of the exuberance and playfulness of their namesake, throwing in some of the creature's often-overlooked ferocity to get their point across. Formed in the slums of LA, the band boasts a multi-ethnic membership which often numbers well over the ten core members featured on the album. Legendary for the infectious energy and contagious groove achieved in the live arena, where their shows often spill into the street and become spontaneous street parties, Ozomatli made sure that their self titled debut would do everything possible to capture the live experience in a recorded setting.
OZOMATLI reacts to the chaos and danger of their home town with a wistful, often cynical message: the album's opener, "Come Ves" warns against believing everything you're told, atop a furious backdrop of Latin accompaniment, while the chilling "Coming War" follows today's violent trends to their logical end, fusing cool soul sounds with the staccato rap performance of Chali 2na, who ...

EMBRACE THE CHAOS won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album.
This multi-cultural Latin-American rock/funk/pop aggregation first came to public attention in the late '90s with an eclectic, groove-heavy approach and a celebratory aesthetic that endeared them to all comers. On EMBRACE THE CHAOS, Ozomatli continues to nurture their broad vision while venturing into new areas. While the album opens on a relatively familiar note with the undulating Latin rhythms of "Pa Lante," the scenario shifts in short order, ...
| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Street Signs music CDs
$6.19 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux ...

| | Hank Crawford Road Tested CD (1997)
Street Signs music CDs
$12.65 Jimmy McGriff continued on a high roll on his second tour with Milestone, taping another dual-billed soul-jazz album with the redoubtable Hank Crawford. You know what to expect by now -- hardass, down-home, blues-drenched organ trio-plus-sax grooving -- but this is a really potent gusher of that genre, rising to the level of McGriff's idiom-defining The Dream Team from 1996. Throughout, Crawford produces some sterling roadhouse tenor work and guitarist Wayne Boyd stays resolutely in the pocket. Drummer Bernard Purdie stokes the engines from the opening crack of the funky "Peanuts," and contributes ...

| | Do You Know Squarepusher? CDs (2002)
Street Signs music CDs
$14.59 From the total effect, Do You Know Squarepusher (a brief LP or a good-sized mini-LP) doesn't just pose the question in the title, but practically demands compliance with the fact that Tom Jenkinson can't be pigeonholed. After moving from jazz fusion homage to 2-step satirist during previous years, Squarepusher turns in a record of radically different sounds, all of them well-intentioned but also difficult to focus into just a single statement (or two, or three). The title track is the best one here (in his usual vein), as close to a game of the dozens as a drill'n'bass producer is going to get; Jenkinson cues a monotoned vocal to repeat the title before moving into Aphex Twin territory with digital-piano melodies accompanying a series of brilliantly timed breakbeat trainwrecks. "F-Train" cuts up a vocal that sounds like DJ Spooky reading one of his favorite abstract textbooks, while "Mutilation Colony" comprises eight minutes of musique concrète that would sound ...
