| | Led Zeppelin - DVD DVDs (2003)
Toronto Rocks film
$22.75 Very few Led Zeppelin performances were caught on camera during the band's life-span, but the footage that has been preserved for posterity is collected on this release. With a running time of over five-and-a-half hours, this is the definitive word on Zep's global stage-straddling performances. The footage is taken from London's Royal Albert Hall in January 1970, London's Earls Court in May 1975, Knebworth in August 1979, and Madison Square Garden ...
| | Jethro Tull Heavy Horses CD (1978) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Toronto Rocks review
$9.89 HEAVY HORSES brings together the best elements of Jethro Tull's sonic arsenal: heavy guitars, intricate, evolving song structures, folk tendencies, and Ian Anderson's inimitable growl. The album opens with the bouncy "And the Mouse Police Never Sleeps," a fairy tale-like song about the adventures of a group of forest animals. "Acres Wild" features a disco-esque groove held down by funky drums and bass.
The album's out-and-out highlight is the nearly eight-minute "No Lullaby," a song that undergoes the sort of musical metamorphoses present in Tull's best material. Another exceptional effort is the multi-textured title track, a ...
| | Rush Feedback CD (2004) Extended Play
Toronto Rocks DVD
$10.45 For those long-time Rush fans who've always enjoyed the group's early, pre-2112 straight-ahead hard rock, FEEDBACK will come as a welcome diversion from the Canadian trio's later, much more complex work. An album of 1960s-era cover tunes that were inspirational to the band members early in their careers, the disc brings Rush back to basics, stripping away the synthesizers, effects-laden guitar, and percussion triggers, leaving only guitar, bass, drums, and vocals. From the opening notes of "Summertime Blues" (seemingly inspired ...

| | Robert Plant Nine Lives CDs (2006) With DVD; Remastered; Box Set
Toronto Rocks video
$65.69 Listening to the whole of Plant's catalogue, what impresses most is its variety and range. Beginning with 1982's PICTURES AT ELEVEN and continuing through 2005's MIGHTY REARRANGER, NINE LIVES offers up atmospheric grooves, 1950's-style pop, synth-driven new wave, Middle Eastern drones, straight blues, and a healthy dose of post-Zeppelin thunder. Plant's voice morphs too, from dispassionate popster to banshee wailer to retro crooner and elsewhere, never letting the shadow of his former band determine his stylistic choices. Beautiful packaging and a comprehensive booklet sweeten the deal, making this a must for collectors or anyone looking to explore Plant's work in depth.
The colossal legend of Led Zeppelin looms so mightily over the history of rock that it's sometimes easy to overlook the fact that Robert Plant has had a solo career that's outdistanced Zep in terms of longevity and output. ...
