(1 Customer Review)
Though Phish is generally considered the official inheritor of the Grateful Dead jam-band mantle, Widespread Panic is perhaps the most direct musical descendent of Jerry Garcia and crew. With its strong country and blues influences, good-time party vibe, inspired choice of cover tunes, and charmingly shambling jamming style, the Athens, Georgia-based combo possesses many of the same rootsy ingredients that made the Dead so much fun.
UBER COBRA is a particularly laid-back offering, capturing the band live and acoustic in a relatively intimate setting (at the House of Blues club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina) in front of a particularly joyous crowd. Leader John Bell lends his trademark sandpaper vocals to a mix of choice originals and numbers by venerable songwriters both world-famous (Neil Young, David Byrne) and lesser known (Willis Alan Ramsey, Vic Chesnutt). Throughout, the band interprets the material with an engaging mix of Deep South soulful feeling and sawdust-and-whiskey irreverence.

"Watching the Wheels" one of the album's tracks, was included on the "Dirt Music" compilation album, released to coincide with the book of that name from Australian author Tim Winton.Read excerpts from Reviews below:Steve Barnes presenter Acoustic Cafe 92.1 RTR FM:"...meticulously crafted arrangements of tasty tunes, lots of light and shade in the arrangements, not a note out of place or surplus to requirements, and completely free of self-indulgent noodling. If you enjoy Celtic-New Acoustic fusions along the lines of Donal Lunny and Alisdair Fraser, you'll enjoy this." Stephen Hall, 99.3FM "Rhythm & Jazz" 2NSB in "Radar's Blues News":"...David Hyams is Australia's foremost composer of Celtic music. While it has its roots deeply planted in Celtic traditions, this is an album of fine Australian music that has a great degree of breadth."Arthur Elliott, 'Sidestream' 99.7FM, Brisbane:"This CD is so good. It compares favourably with anything being done in this vein by anyone in the world - there are subtleties in the melodies and in the arrangements which are still revealing themselves."Ben Kettlewell, Alternative Music Press:"Hyams and ...
| | Mario Go CD (2007) Edited
Uber Cobra CD music
$11.65 Contemporary R&B singer Mario was just a tender teen when his self-titled debut was released in 2002, but by his fourth release, 2007's GO, Mario had matured into an accomplished performer. His radio-ready mix of pop, hip-hop, and urban contemporary style is refined to perfection on GO, with the roster of all-star collaborators paying further tribute to Mario's status in the industry. Songwriting help comes from Ne-Yo, Akon, and Pharell, while producers Scott Storch, Timbaland, and Sean Garrett, among others, helm production duties. Guest appearances by Alicia Keys and Nelly round out this glittering pop-R&B gem.
So much for "You should let me love you," then. "You down or what?" is the softest line from the opening title track of Mario's third and many times delayed album, and from there, the track -- a prodding Neptunes production with the requisite synthetic, sticky-sweet coatings -- is an obvious bid to surprise or even shock, with Mario proclaiming, "I ain't trying to meet your mother/I just wanna f*ck you like no other" and "If I stop f*ckin' you, it'll make your world end." Go is indeed Mario's most aggressive and assertive album, but no other song comes close to out-vulgarizing "Go" itself. There are several sensitive ballads, including "Music for Love," bearing a definite resemblance to J. Holiday's ...
