Otto Kellar and his wife Alma work as caretaker and housekeeper at a Catholic church in Quebec. While robbing a house where he sometimes works as a gardener, Otto is caught and kills the owner. Racked with guilt he heads back to the church where Father Michael Logan is working late. Otto confesses his crime, but when the police begin to suspect Father Locan, he cannot reveal what he has been told in the confession. Anne Baxter, Karl Malden, and Montgomery Clift star in this Hitchcock film. This lesser known Hitchcock murder drama, based upon the play by Paul Anthelme, is compelling for its stark photography and symbolism. With I CONFESS, Hitchcock puts a moral twist on the theme of an innocent man charged with a crime he didn't commit. Montgomery Clift plays a pious young priest who hears a confession from a murderer and later finds himself accused of the crime. He is then torn between his vows of silence and his need to clear himself of the charge. I CONFESS, from the play by Paul Anthelme, is based on a premise custom made for Alfred Hitchcock's fascination with the dilemma of an innocent man accused of a crime. Montgomery Clift plays Father Michael Logan, a priest who hears the confession of a murderer and soon finds himself framed for the crime. Circumstantial evidence mounts, painting an ever more damning picture of the priest's crime while he is bound by his priestly vows not to reveal what he has learned in confession. If other Hitchcock dramas such as SABOTEUR follow the plight of the innocent man through breakneck pursuits, I CONFESS succeeds on the strength of Clift's ability to convey the real anxiety of the moral dilemma he faces and the effects of the widening chasm between pious intentions and social disgrace. Strong performances are also given by O.E. Hasse as the bitter and murderous gardener Otto Keller and by Anne Baxter as the woman whose faith in Father Logan also threatens scandal. Filmed in Quebec, Canada.

$10.29 Ray Milland stars as alcoholic writer Don Birnam in Billy Wilder's first unabashedly dramatic film, and one of the first to deal in such painstaking detail with the disease of alcoholism. Don shares an apartment in New York City in the 1940s with his brother Wick (Phillip Terry) who has his hands full trying to deal with his brother's drinking problem. One night, Don encourages his brother to take his girlfriend Helen St. James (Jane Wyman) to hear some music only so that he can be out from under their watchful eyes. Taking the money left for the maid, he goes out to buy some liquor, stashing one bottle in the chandelier. When he goes to the bar the next day, Nat (Howard Da Silva), the owner berates him for treating his girlfriend badly and warns him that he's on a path toward death. Don returns to the apartment to try to work on his novel "The Bottle," but consumed by self-doubt, ...

$9.89 A bleak and powerful drama, THE WRONG MAN tells the story of an innocent man accused of a crime committed by a close look-alike. Based on an actual incident reported in Life magazine, the film is the only documentary-style film Alfred Hitchcock made. THE WRONG MAN presented audiences with a radical change of style after Hitchcock's more lighthearted and conventional productions, such as THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH and TO CATCH A THIEF. The story begins as Manny Balestrero (Henry Fonda) and his wife, Rose (Vera Miles), decide to borrow on her life insurance policy to pay medical bills. But at the insurance office, three employees mistake Manny for a man who robbed them just days earlier. That night, he's arrested and charged with a series of hold-ups, setting in motion an innocent man's desperate attempt to prove his innocence. Fonda gives a strong performance, ...

$13.29 Alfred Hitchcock had already begun work on REAR WINDOW when he took on the project to direct DIAL M FOR MURDER, based on the successful play by Frederick Knott. For the film, Hitchcock chose to cast his favorite leading lady of the time, Grace Kelly, as the embattled Margot Wendice. Kelly would also star in REAR WINDOW and Hitchcock's subsequent TO CATCH A THIEF. It ...

$6.99 David Duchovny makes his feature-film debut as a writer-director in the very funny, very poignant HOUSE OF D. Living in Paris, Tom Warshaw (Duchovny) is an American expatriate who feels it is time to tell his wife and son the truth about what happened when he was a kid. The action then shifts to Greenwich Village in the 1970s, when young Tom (the remarkable Anton Yelchin) has recently lost his father and is trying to survive with his severely depressed mother (Duchovny's real-life wife, Tea Leoni). His best friend is an older, mentally challenged man named Pappass (Robin Williams); the two of them deliver meat together, go to the movies, and see each other in school, where Pappass is the assistant janitor. ...
