| | John Denver Rocky Mountain Christmas CD (1975)
Diamond Mine music CDs
$6.09 This 1998 reissue contains 5 bonus tracks (including the previously
unreleased "White Christmas") not included on the original release.
John Denver's music always had a warm, home-spun quality to it, so it isn't surprising that his 1975 holiday effort, Rocky Mountain Christmas, is a wonderfully low-key and friendly Christmas album. Divided between classic carols and new numbers, such as the fine "Aspenglow" and "Christmas for Cowboys," the album is an appealing, pretty record, perfect for late nights by the fireside. The 1998 CD reissue adds five bonus tracks: "Jingle Bells," "White Christmas," "The Music is You," "Perhaps Love," and "Dreamland Express." ~ Rodney Batdorf

| | Pink Floyd Dark Side Of The Moon CD (1973)
Diamond Mine album
$14.49 DARK SIDE OF THE MOON was a benchmark record. It turned the musical world on its ear with a hitherto unseen combination of sounds, and changed things considerably for Pink Floyd. For this project, Pink Floyd resurrected older and unfinished numbers, some of which came from the multitude of soundtracks the band members had previously worked on. The film ZABRISKIE POINT, a study of American materialism from a foreigner's perspective, provided "Us and Them" (originally titled "The Violence Sequence"). Waters rewrote "Breathe" after its appearance on his and avant-garde composer Ron Geesin's score for THE BODY, a surreal medical documentary.
Floyd and their long-time engineer, Alan Parsons, used a multitude of sound effects--from stereophonically projected ...

| | Me'Shell Ndege'Ocello Cookie: The Anthropological Mixtape CD (2002) (Import) Japan; Argentina
Diamond Mine album
$41.39 This "anthropological mix tape" features 15 vibrant, innovative tracks.
Me'Shell Ndegeocello's fourth solo outing comes from an artist whose work is nothing short of visionary. Considering that COOKIE was shelved for a period before being released, the set nevertheless sounds as fresh and contemporary as anything currently being pumped out of the urban music scene. Ndegeocello continues her amalgam of bass-driven jazzy R&B, funk, and hip-hop, adding in occasional world music touches (as with the Indian-influenced outro in "Trust").
"Priorities 1-6" smoothly captures a Maxwell vibe, while both "Earth" and "Barry Farms" jam on slinky Prince-like grooves, replete with sexually charged lyrics. As physical as Me'Shell's lyrical focus gets, it holds equal court with social, spiritual, and political statements. In the opening cut, "Dead Nigga Blvd. Pt. 1," she sings, "Just because civil rights is law doesn't mean ...

$16.29 | | Al Green Here I Am (EMI) CD (2001)
Diamond Mine CD music
$6.45 CEMA Special Markets' budget-line collection Here I Am does a really nice job picking out highlights from Al Green's classic Hi recordings. Of course, Green was arguably the most consistent soul vocalist of the '70s; you could pick songs at random and come up with a very entertaining collection. And that's essentially what has happened here. There is no rhyme or reason as to why certain singles were chosen over others, or why these particular album tracks are featured, but it's inarguable that hearing "Call Me," "Here I Am (Come and Take Me)," "Belle," "Livin' for You," "L-O-V-E," "Full of Fire" and "Sha-La-La (Make Me Happy)" on one disc is very pleasurable indeed. Sure, any version of the Greatest Hits albums is preferable to this, as are the original albums, but this is still a good choice for listeners on a tight budget. [Collectables ...
