Closed Captioned; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English; Director's Comments With the release of Robert Altman's M*A*S*H in 1970, a new form of comedy was born, one that would help to forever change the face of cinema. Altman's audacious film reflected the American counterculture's growing distrust of religion and government in the late 1960s and early 1970s, resulting in one of the biggest box office smashes of its time. Introducing the techniques he would employ throughout his storied career--overlapping dialogue, a constantly moving camera with a heavy amount of zooming, and a bold combination of frank subject matter with cynical humor--Altman immediately vaulted himself to Hollywood's upper ranks. Based on the novel by Richard Hooker, M*A*S*H follows a group of Mobile Army Surgical Hospital officers as they perform surgery and pass the time just miles from the front lines of the Korean conflict. Led by sardonic captains "Hawkeye" Pierce (Donald Sutherland) and "Trapper" John McIntyre (Elliott Gould), the film has the feel of an absurd three-ring circus. Other characters include the uptight nurse "Hot Lips" O'Houlihan (Sally Kellerman), the confused Major Frank Burns (Robert Duvall), the troubled Captain "Painless" Waldowski (John Shuck), and the simpleminded Captain "Duke" Forrest (Tom Skerritt). Altman's decision to present his film as a series of loosely connected vignettes rather than a traditionally unfolding narrative perfectly captures the freewheeling spirit so unique to early-'70s cinema. Theatrical release: January 25, 1970
M*A*S*H was added to the Library of Congress National Film Registry in 1996.
The film is based on a series of novels by the pseudonymous Dr. Richard Hooker, a real doctor whose tour of duty in Korea served as the basis for the books.
Robert Altman was the 15th choice as director for the film.
At the time of the film's release, M*A*S*H became the 10th highest-grossing film of all time, a feat made all the more impressive because of its low budget.
Altman recruited his teenage son, Mike, to write the lyrics for the film's theme song, "Suicide Is Painless." Altman joked in 1999 that while his son still receives royalty checks for his efforts, Altman never saw any of the proceeds from the hugely successful television series.
The television spin-off was a critical and commercial success for 11 seasons on CBS. However, the series was even further removed from the original source material than the movie was.
Gary Burghoff reprised his role as Radar O'Reilly on the TV series; he was the only actor from the movie to do so. M*A*S*H Quotes/Excerpts: "I wonder how a degenerate person like you could have reached a position of responsibility in the Army Medical Corps."--Hot Lips (Sally Kellerman) to Dago Red (Rene Auberjonois)
"He was drafted."--Dago Red's reply to Hot Lips

M*A*S*H Movie Review Finally Uncut For years I have seen this movie on TV and it is always cut up so badly that you are at a loss as to what is going on sometimes. This uncut DVD was excellant and I enjoyed it immensely.

MASH the movie is funny and hilarious! I think it's one of the funniest and most box-office academy award winning for best screenplay in 1970 of all-time. Donald Sutherland did a good job playing Hawkeye Pierce which was also Alan Alda's character in the TV series. My favorite classic two scenes is when Hawkeye and Frank Burns played by Robert Duvall is trying to eat his oatmeal for breakfast. While Hawkeye talks about the sexual encounter between Frank and Hot Lips Margart Houlahan (Sally Kellerman). Hawkeye gets on Frank's nerves until he keeps on talking about them in bed. Then suddenly Frank punches Hawkeye in the face. When awkeye shout out and says "Frank Has Gone Insanne Or Nuts!" And also where the entire Mash 4077 army military camp pulls up the curtain. Where Margaret is having a shower naked in the private tents. Everyone starts yelling out and clapping by saying this "BRAVO!, "BRAVO!"

Best Film of 1970 I used to think that Five Easy Pieces was the best movie of 1970, but I've come to agree with everybody else that this is a more skillful, more entertaining, more resonant film, and most importantly, it stays with you. Altman's irreverant approach perfectly illustrates the sheer contemptibility of war and those who wage it, without losing sight of the horror undergone by those who fight it. $9.89 Milos Foreman's ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, based on the novel by Ken Kesey and the play by Dale Wasserman, presents a biting and ultimately tragic satire about mental institutions and the human spirit. A disturbing, witty, and electrifying drama, the film won the 1975 Academy Award for Best Picture. R.P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson), a misbehaved con who shirks authority, finds himself in an asylum after faking insanity to get out of work detail in prison. The vivacious troublemaker soon finds himself in a worse kind of prison--one presided over by the repressed, terrifyingly quiet Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher), whose set of rules and regulations are meant to suppress patients' psychotic outbursts, and their spirits. It's not long before McMurphy is reaching out to his new inmates, trying desperately to bring life to an otherwise dead atmosphere. To Ratched, however, Nicholson's free spirit is as dangerous as a schizophrenic impulse. ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST is brilliantly acted by an ensemble that includes Brad Dourif, Christopher Lloyd, Vincent Schiavelli, and Danny DeVito.
Randle P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson), a free-spirited con with lightning in his veins and glib on his tongue, fakes insanity and moves in with what he calls the "nuts." Immediately, his contagious sense of disorder runs up against numbing routine. No way should guys pickled on sedatives shuffle around in bathrobes when the World Series is on. This means war! On one side is McMurphy. On the other is soft-spoken Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher), among the most coldly monstrous villains in film history. At stake is the fate of every patient on the ward.

M*A*S*H review
$10.25 Set in 1962; Produced and released in 1973.
AMERICAN GRAFFITI presents a powerful collage of youth on the brink of maturity just before the assassination of J.F.K.. Based on George Lucas's own teenage hot-rodding days in Modesto, California, this brilliant, bittersweet comedy inspired numerous other productions, including the long-running TV series HAPPY DAYS. Lucas's second feature film (following THX 1138), AMERICAN GRAFFITI contains an early screen appearance by Harrison Ford, who would figure heavily in the director's next movie, the sci-fi epic STAR WARS. The film follows one night in the lives of several recently graduated high school students. The genial Steve (Ron Howard) prepares to leave for college the next day, and Laurie (Cindy Williams), his girlfriend, is upset by his impending departure. Laurie's brother, Curt (Richard Dreyfuss), the class intellectual, is also slated for college, but he has serious doubts about his future. Also included here are the hopeless nerd (Charles Martin Smith) and the eternally cool drag racer, John (Paul LeMat), who feels pressure to live up to his reputation. A nostalgic feeling is evoked in seeing the teenagers cruising in their hot rods, eating at Mel's Diner, and listening to Wolfman Jack spin the latest hits, with the camera jumping from character to character as they each enjoy--or fret over--their last moments of summer freedom.

M*A*S*H DVD
$7.05 Based on Joseph Heller's critically acclaimed, best-selling novel, CATCH-22 is Mike Nichols's provocative antiwar satire that tells the frenetic tale of a group of World War II fliers trapped in the insanity of the Mediterranean. The "catch-22" of the title deals with a military snafu that results when Yossarian (Alan Arkin), a bombardier in the war, attempts to get out of the military by feigning insanity. Yet the simple fact that he is able to acknowledge his own mortality automatically renders him sane. Frustrated into submission, the frazzled Yossarian must return to the frontlines to watch his friends and compatriots die off one by one.
After the success of WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? and THE GRADUATE, Nichols bravely attempted to translate Heller's beloved novel to the big screen. As the terrified Yossarian, Arkin is his typically brilliant self. The rest of the all-star cast--which includes heavy-hitters Orson Welles, Jon Voight, Martin Sheen, Bob Newhart, and Anthony Perkins--further bring Heller's scathing vision to life. While the breakout success of Robert Altman's M*A*S*H and Nichols's experimental approach to the material might have attributed to the film's lackluster box office response, CATCH-22 remains a strikingly relevant condemnation of war.
Alan Arkin, Martin Sheen, Jon Voight, Orson Welles, Anthony Perkins, Art Garfunkel, Bob Newhart - Dir:Mike Nichols Mike Nichols superbly directed this cinematic adaptation of Joseph Heller's scathing black comedy about a small group of flyers in the Mediterranean in 1944.

$10.29 Poor Jerry Lundegaard. He's deep in debt. His wealthy father-in-law has no respect for him. He cheats customers at the car dealership where he works. And now he's hired a bumbling duo to kidnap his wife--a plan that goes horribly awry, leading to homicide. Enter Marge Gunderson, one of the most fabulous movie cops in film history. The very-pregnant Marge--played marvelously by Frances McDormand in an Oscar-winning and career-defining performance--just goes about her everyday business, eating (in nearly every scene), talking to the people in the community, and examining bloody corpses as if no day is different from the next. A multiple murder in the small town of Brainerd, Minnesota--home of Paul Bunyan, as the sign claims--seems to have little effect on her. Yet she has an innate cop sense--she is very, very good at her job and determined to solve the case in her offhanded manner.
FARGO is yet another offbeat, highly entertaining film from the Coen brothers (BARTON FINK, BLOOD SIMPLE). The film is nearly colorless; instead, director of photography Roger Deakins washes the screen in the blinding white of the snow, occasionally breaking for the drab grays and browns of police uniforms and winter jackets. Carter Burwell's score further enhances the slow, steady pace of this oddly funny and compelling film. The Coens have once again populated their film with a slew of bizarre characters, with outstanding performances delivered by all, particularly the edgy William H. Macy, the quietly luminous McDormand, the nearly psychotic Steve Buscemi, and the oh-so-cold Peter Stormare.
The Coen Brothers great film now in a Special Edition DVD including the documentary "Minnesota Ice," an interview with the Coen Brothers and Frances McDormand, Trivia Track, Audio commentary with Roger A. Deakins, behind-the-scenes photo gallery, English 5.1 surround sound, more.

A reconstruction of the legendary British rock group's early days, before the advent of Beatlemania and world-wide fame. The story focuses on the turbulent and exciting period that the Beatles' spent in Hamburg, Germany in 1960-62, when they played in a series of rough-and-tumble dives and came into contact with cutting-edge artists. M*A*S*H DVD
$7.95 The producer of THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS (2001) and XXX (2002) delivers another amped-up road-racing action spectacle in TORQUE. It's the saga of Ford (Martin Henderson) a motorcycle-riding outlaw who wants to clear his name of drug and murder charges. The cops are after him, as are rival cycle gangs caught up in a war over turf rights. Everyone in the film is tough, cool, and has lightning-fast reflexes. Ice Cube lends some heavier-than-a-Mack-truck screen presence as the leader of the Reapers, an African-American motorcycle gang who thinks Ford killed one of their members. Sexy Monet Mazur is great as Slade, the rough-and-tumble girl Ford left behind when he had to flee the country, and whose love he's now come back to reclaim. The thumping soundtrack includes offerings by Jane's Addiction, Nickelback, Kid Rock, and Hoobastank. There's nonstop trick camera work, fantastic stunts and action set pieces--like one motorcycle chase that takes place on top of, in front of, and inside a train. Slade even gets to have a motorcycle cat fight with the bad guy's girlfriend. Acclaimed music video director Joseph Kahn pours creative energy into every yard of this no-nonsense popcorn movie, his first feature film. It acknowledges its junky exploitation roots proudly, and at times seems to achieve some sort of twisted new level of pop art with its well-paced, colorful, giddy, gritty forward momentum.
Biker Cary Ford (Martin Henderson) is in possession of several motorcycles belonging to a ruthless drug dealer. Now he's putting the squeeze on Ford in an attempt to retrieve the bikes, which have something a little more valuable than gas in their tanks. Stars Ice Cube, Jamie Pressly, Jay Hernandez, Matt Schulze, Monet Mazur.

M*A*S*H film
$15.09 Based on a novel by Claude Klotz (MAN ON THE TRAIN), KILLER KID is a brutal exploration of the violence that adults inflict on children. Djilali (Teufik Jallab) is an 11-year-old Lebanese orphan recruited by a terrorist group to become a ruthless child assassin. Sent to Paris on a mission to assassinate the French President, Djilali enlists an unsuspecting Arab boy named Karim (Younesse Boudache) to help him blend into French society. Karim has grown up in a poor Parisian suburb and knows nothing of the indoctrinated fanaticism that informs Djilali's life--he is a carefree boy who loves rap music, skateboarding, cheeseburgers, and girls. Despite their cultural differences, the boys forge a genuine friendship, one that is soon tested by Djilali's conflicted duty to his terrorist mission. Writer/director Gilles De Maistre's gritty, cinema-verite style and the powerful lead performances of nonprofessional child actors Jallab and Boudache lend a truthful poignancy to the film's portrait of vanquished innocence.
