| | Kevin Fowler Loose, Loud & Crazy CD Kevin Fowler Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
You can't fool all the people all the time; the mainstream country audience will only sit still for so many prefabricated hat acts before they instinctively flock to the real thing. Kevin Fowler had never been a major-label star-groomed "personality" when he released his fourth album, LOOSE, LOUD & CRAZY, but that didn't stop fans from pushing him all the way to crossover status. Fowler's regular-guy voice, good-natured honky-tonk songs, and down-home delivery aren't part of some marketing scheme, they're the bona fide article. He's obviously got deep roots; "Get Along" is dripping with Western Swing flavor, and "Triple Crown" is indebted to George Jones's classic "The Race Is On." Nevertheless, Fowler makes no attempts at sounding self-consciously retro, he simply gives his all on a batch of often humor-filled barroom tunes that owe a debt to the names he drops in the broad double-entendre "Don't Touch My Willie" (Jones, Merle Haggard, et al). Eschewing rock-friendly power ballads and cheesy production touches, Fowler makes contemporary country music fun again with LOOSE, LOUD & CRAZY.

| | Trick Pony R.I.D.E. CD (2005)
Loose, Loud & Crazy CD music
$7.29 R.I.D.E., the title of Trick Pony's third album, stands for "Rebellious Individuals Delivering Entertainment." Of course, in 2000's Nashville, rebelling could often mean playing straight-up old-school country while not taking oneself too seriously, two pursuits at which Trick Pony excels. A slice of good-time barroom country rock, R.I.D.E. manages to sound staunchly traditional while never sticking too close to a formula. Primary lead vocalist Heidi Newfield comes off like a bawdy mix of Tanya Tucker, Loretta Lynn, and Mae West, delivering the pure honky-tonk of "Ain't Wastin' Good Whiskey On You" and the tears-in-your-beer emotion of "When I Fall" with equal panache. It's guitarist Keith Burns, however, who delivers the record's most accessible song with "Sad City," which features a guest vocal from Hootie & The Blowfish's Darius Rucker. A mix of sawdust, sweat, and jumbotron-ready ...
| | Pat Green Lucky Ones CD (2004)
Loose, Loud & Crazy music CDs
$12.65 Though it's a method of divination that wouldn't work with some artists' records, sneaking a peek at the songwriting credits on Pat Green's LUCKY ONES is in fact a fairly accurate way of triangulating the musical influences at work here. Though Green handles a good deal of the compositional chores himself, he's joined on some tracks by other writers, including Matchbox ...
| | Billy Joe Shaver Real Deal CD (2005)
Loose, Loud & Crazy songs
$8.75 Although new Billy Joe Shaver studio albums proved to be rarities in the early 2000s, THE REAL DEAL (2005) makes up for lost time with a solid set of the Outlaw Country performer's originals (and a bonus holiday tune). With a little help from Big & Rich, Nanci Griffith, and others, the ever-charming Shaver eases into his laid-back, often-humorous songs, reinforcing ...

| | Mel Torme Swingin' On The Moon CD (1960)
Loose, Loud & Crazy songs
$9.59 Re-released on Verve's prestigious Verve By Request sub-label, SWINGING ON THE MOON is a classic album that showcases Torme's considerable gifts as a vocalist. A theme record of the best kind, SWINGING consists solely of songs about the moon, returning again and again to the age-old notion of the moon as a romantic symbol. Standards such as "How High The Moon," "I Wished On The Moon," "Blue Moon," and "Moonlight In Vermont" are given exceptional treatments by Torme, whose clean, precise style is notable for its control-particularly in the higher register.
Torme rollicks through the up-tempo numbers and glides through the ballads, abetted by the Russell Garcia Orchestra, which lends that hep, swinging, early-'60s big-band sound. The opening title track, penned by Torme himself, is alone ...

| | Oasis Familiar To Millions CD (2001)
Loose, Loud & Crazy album
$6.25 Rife with tossed-off obscenities, FAMILIAR TO MILLIONS captures Manchester's favorite sons shining in an element whose dynamic vibe is as much a result of the crowd's rabid feedback as it is of the band's tight delivery. Opening with the shambling sample-heavy instrumental "F**kin' In The Bushes," Oasis takes an electrifying stroll through their canon focusing heavily on their first two albums, DEFINITELY MAYBE and (WHAT'S THE STORY) MORNING GLORY. For a change, frontman Liam Gallagher ...
