FURIOUS GEORGE is a tribute album to George Lynch's biggest musical influences.
One of the most heralded hard rock guitarists of the mid- to late '80s was George Lynch. And while Lynch could easily keep pace with all the shredders of the era (Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, etc.), his roots lay largely in '70s era classic rock. With the Shrapnel label encouraging veteran rock guitarists to revisit their past in the form of all-covers albums (Jake E. Lee's Retraced, Leslie West's Got Blooze, etc.), Lynch also got the nod, resulting in 2004's Furious George. Unlike his work with Dokken, Lynch's playing takes a decidedly bluesy turn here -- especially on renditions of Robin Trower's "Bridge of Sighs," ZZ Top's "Precious and Grace" (quite possibly the album's highlight), and even the Beatles "I Want You/She's So Heavy." But Lynch is known first and foremost as a metal guitarist, and he certainly gets to flex his muscles on covers of Deep Purple's "Stormbringer," Grand Funk Railroad's "Sin's a Good Man's Brother," and Montrose's "Space Station #5" (which sees singer Kelly Keeling do a spot-on impersonation of Sammy Hagar). While newcomers would be best introduced to Lynch's playing via his Dokken or Lynch Mob releases, for longtime admirers curious to hear Lynch's influences, Furious George is recommended. ~ Greg Prato

| Furious George Music Review Average Rating: (3.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews FURIOUS!!! Who doesn't know George Lynch? This work is a compilation of covers of 70's-80's and if you like hard rock this cd is for you Submitted by karalis (rome, italy) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Still a guitar hero..but I've been a fan of George Lynch for more than 15 years since the second Dokken album.Honestly, his musical directions have changed a lot in last 10 years and this one is no exception. The Last 5-6 albums including LP project are not what i was expecting.Maybe it's our problem that we still look for those amazing riffs, blazing solos and pure hard rock sound which he used to do in Dokken.Apperantly, his intention is not in that way anymore(as he clearly speaks it out in various guitar mags). So, if you look it in that way, this cd is very good and worth the money you spent. However, for those of you who are stuck in 80's sound !(just like me..), you'll not like this one like the last 5-6 cds.
However, for the sake of this great guitar man, i can not give it less that 4 stars...but be warned.. Submitted by thelasthardman (Istanbul,Turkey) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Another batch of covers It must be real cheap for artitst to do covers instead of original songs beacuse this makes number two for George. It sounds real good but fans want original songs, enough with the covers cds? The vocalist though does shine and it looks bright for a next original relase if they stay toghether long enough. Very strange Considered one of the most important guitarrist of the 80 (in the heavy metal style), this work sucks Submitted by after (Santiago Chile) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Stick with Lynch Mob We all know George is a great guitarist, but this collection is far from his best. Lynch just kinda goes thru the motions on this one, which makes sense when I read that he didn't even get to pick the songs on here. It's kinda like he just showed up, plugged in, & played.
To be sure, his guitar playing is good, but the song selection leaves somethign to be desired as does the vocalist on here. Who is this guy? The worst Lynch Mob tracks are better than anything on here. Submitted by Chris (Baltimore, MD USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Furious George
$13.69 Heavy metal guitar stalwart George Lynch returns with REvolution, a 13-track set featuring re-recorded versions of Dokken and Lynch Mob classics. Vocalist Rob Mason and bassist Anthony Esposito have returned to the Lynch Mob fold for this project; they are joined behind the drum kit by newcomer Michael "Fro" Frowein. Together, the combo does a mostly bang-up job with the material. Lynch's guitar lines are leaner and meaner throughout, emulating the newly buff physique of Mr. Scary himself. And while Mason's singing style is that of a journeyman metal vocalist, he wisely relies on power here, dispensing with the kind of upper-register histrionics favored by Don Dokken and Oni Logan that defined -- and subsequently maligned -- 1980s metal. REvolution lifts off with the Dokken classic "Tooth and Nail"; it's essentially the same song, only rippling with a new sense of purpose that's palpable throughout the record. It's immediately clear that while Lynch ...

$13.45 When most fans recall Jake E. Lee's playing, it is his stellar, heavy metal-esque style featured on such mid-'80s Ozzy classics as Bark at the Moon and The Ultimate Sin. But aside from hardcore fans, Lee is a bluesy, classic rocker at heart, as evidenced by his work with his post-Ozzy band, Badlands, and especially on his latest solo album, Retraced. Comprised entirely of covers, Lee doesn't go the usual Stones/Zeppelin route, but instead, picks lesser-known songs from his days as a teen playing in bands ...
