| | Armik Treasures CD Armik Discography of CDs
Perhaps there is nothing so immediately sensual, seductive, and timelessly traditional as Flamenco guitar, and "Nuevo Flamenco" guitarist Armik showcases this to a finely tuned "t" on a collection of 11 compositions. By fusing traditional Spanish Flamenco style with Greek and Middle Eastern flavors, Armik forges work that straddles the New Age and jazz genres while remaining all the time true to its Spanish roots. . On "Timeless," bass, percussion, violins, and other back-up create a rich weave over which Armik's guitar dances while "Magico" sizzles with an irresistible maraca- and drum-propelled rhythm. Some Santana-like electric guitar kicks off the enchanting "Passion" while "Moonrise" salsas its way into jazz dance club territory with an array of steamy horns providing call and response to Armik's tightly wound arpeggios. Whether or not one is lucky enough to be hearing this on a sun-dappled terrace, the blood will still likely be stirred towards dance and romance. Armik's soul seems to be itself tuned to the warm sound of the classical guitar, and this album shows him to be an artist of both incredible discipline and wild passion.

Treasures music CDs
$15.39 Amor De Guitarra is Armik's eighth solo recording and his second release for the Bolero record label. As one of the leaders of a movement that has been called flamenco nuevo or "new flamenco," which combines Spanish flamenco guitar with other Latin forms, this program is a true testament to the Western European style of world music. Amor De Guitarra is also one of Armik's most beautiful efforts since it effectively chronicles his respect, love and joy of playing the flamenco guitar on 11 newly composed songs. This passionate recording reflects Armik's world-class mastery of nuance, chord voicings and international rhythms composed and arranged for solo performers. His use of pre-recorded castanets and horn charts as musical pads bring the lively "Fiesta" full circle -- giving it the celebratory feeling of Spain. "Midnight Bolero" is an exquisite song, colorized with romantic hues and beautifully played as a ballad. It is so beautiful that one's senses are heightened to the point of true nirvana. ...
| | Armik Piano Nights CD (2004)
Treasures songs
$12.79 Armik is best known as a Nuevo Flamenco guitarist. However, on PIANO NIGHTS, his compositions revolve around the piano playing of Joe Vannelli. For diehard fans, there is still plenty of fancy guitar work to enjoy, but each song is ultimately propelled by a warm and passionate piano melody.
PIANO NIGHTS is a combination of pop, dance, and most of all, Spanish ...

Treasures music CDs
$14.79 Like its predecessor (Another Saturday Night, also on Ace), this is a compilation of Louisiana swamp pop, the admixture of rock, country, blues, pop, and Cajun that continues to thrive in the region. Most of the 26 tracks are vintage sides from the '60s, although there are a few of later origin. Some of the artists are nothing more than names to anyone outside of the state, but actually there are a few more recognizable ...

| | Rafael Manriquez Ique Viva El Canto!: Songs And Singers Of Chile CD (2008)
Treasures songs
$13.29 Singer and multi-instrumentalist (though primarily a guitarist) Rafael Manriquez performs 25 songs from various strands of Chilean folk music on Que Viva el Canto! Songs and Singers of Chile. Though there are some traditional songs here, he emphasizes covers of contemporary folk compositions by Chilean writers and performers of the last half century (Victor Jara being the most internationally famous of these), as well as doing a few of his own. It's hard to assess the musical merit of Manriquez's interpretations without access to original or older versions, whether by the songwriters or other performers -- material with which relatively few listeners outside of Chile will be familiar. However, Manriquez does have a pleasant emotive delivery, and the arrangements, while on the plaintive side, are varied, as the singer's backed by a number of other musicians (occasionally sharing the vocals as well) on numerous instruments including flute, accordion, saxophone, and harp. The songs cover both explicitly political topics and more everyday and romantic concerns, so the record can be seen as an introductory survey of sorts of several areas of Chilean folksong. As is par for the course on Smithsonian Folkways CD, there's a sizable accompanying booklet (in English and Spanish) with an overview of the Chilean folk music profiled on the CD and ...
