Sensual Goddess CD music
$12.59 As any quick perusal of old Top 40 rock & roll station playlists will attest, singles were where the shakin' action was, as rock & roll albums were scarce as hen's teeth back in those pre-Beatle days. But when the record companies decided to issue one, it was usually an artifact of high rockin' value and some major influence. Naysayers to the contrary, this debut album by the Northwest's first great rock & roll combo is just such an artifact. The Wailers dispensed crude, greasy, largely instrumental rock & roll music for those who came to shake it up and shake it down, and it's all on fine, rhythmic, open display here. This album is amazing in its own simplistic, nuthin'-special way, its crudity almost palpable. There's only one vocal aboard, Kent Morrill's "Dirty Robber," later covered and torched by the Sonics. Everything else is built on the riff-sturdy bones of their biggest hit, "Tall Cool One." With two guitars, piano, sax, and drums -- no bass player anywhere on here, another crudeness indicator of the times and locale it was recorded in -- all blasting away like they're working a VFW Hall dance, hoof shakers like "Wailin'," "Shanghaied," "Beat Guitar" (featured in the soundtrack of the misguided Jerry Lee Lewis bioflick Great Balls Of Fire), and "Gunnin' For Peter" stand loud and proud as teen hall pre-Beatle rock & roll ...
| | Meliah Rage Deep And Dreamless Sleep CD (2006)
Sensual Goddess music CDs
$11.99 Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth seemed to hog all the thrash metal spotlight during the '80s, but there were still countless other acts nipping on the tails of the big boys -- Metal Church, Testament, and Meliah Rage. Like the others, Meliah Rage was one of the first thrash acts to sign to a major (their debut, Kill to Survive, was issued via Epic in 1988), but unlike the others, Meliah Rage failed to achieve the same amount of press and Headbangers Ball spins. Regardless, the group has soldiered on -- on a somewhat regular basis -- ever since. Despite a healthy amount of lineup shifts over the years, ...
| | Dinah Shore Dinah Sings, Previn Plays CD (1960) Bonus Tracks
Sensual Goddess songs
$8.09 Known chiefly as a TV variety hostess, the late Dinah Shore was also a fine jazz-influenced singer. Andre Previn has a considerable reputation as one of the world's great classical conductors, but in the late 1950s he was established as a versatile jazz pianist. In 1960, they joined forces to record some Great American Songbook selections (Gershwin brothers, Cole Porter, etc.), resulting in an intimate, late-night set in which Shore's sultry singing and Previn's warm, succinct piano both shine.
While maintaining her status as a television star, Dinah Shore made a series of classy albums for Capitol Records between 1959 and 1962. On this, the fourth of her five LPs for the label, she again ...
