The Terror Squad was always more than a superstar vehicle for Bronx, New York rap icons Big Pun and Fat Joe, but the former's tragic death would be enough to stall any unit. After many years, Fat Joe's mainstream breakout, and numerous line-up changes--most notably the addition of Lil' Kim-style MC Remy Martin--the group returns as a quintet (Remy, Joe, Tony Sunshine, Armageddon, and Prospect) with a lively second record.
TRUE STORY is dominated by the voices of Joe and Remy, which is no drawback, as each boasts a towering delivery and rugged worldview, playing off the other with ease. Tony Sunshine's melodious croon offers a sweet counterpoint, while the blunt Armageddon and lyrically potent Prospect drift in and out of the proceedings. The group proves they can hit hard and play dirty on "Take Me Home," drop a catchy pop single on "Lean Back," and wax introspective on the wistful "Streets of NY." TRUE STORY proves the Terror Squad is a dynamic, powerful force, and the rap world is better for its rebound from tragedy.

Terror Squad True Story Songs True Story Music Review Average Rating: (3.9 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Joe does it again.... Every song, every beat, every lyric had me feasting for more...this is a great album. Submitted by patterson992001 (Kuwait) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Real Review: Average I actually got the album version that has 8 additional bonus songs on it, and some of it is real tight, BUT... what happened to the Fat Joe from the classic 95 "JEALOUS ONE'S ENVY"? I think Joe still kills sh!t on the mic, but the beats are too commercialized. I think things would be better if he was still with people who did authentic gritty NY beatz like dj Premier and KRS, nstead of relying on the past successes of producers like Cool & Dre. Their beats sound the same and commercially, Fat Joe can't compete with Gay-Unit. Plus, just keep rappers in Terror Squad that are tight & can bring enough heat 2 the table & can make a difference. That girl Remy is kinda tight, although she sounds a lil like Charlie Baltimore. And no one that Joe has gotten into Terror Squad is even at HALF the level that Big Punisher was. People who know what real HipHop is already know what Fat Joe and Terror Squad is capable of, if only Joe would slow down and take his time & have the balls to take the chance of makins street raps like he used to and try to get airplay without the commercialism, I bet he would kill. But this "TRUE STORY" cd is nothing more or anything less than a-v-e-r-a-g-e. Worth the download but not the actualy purcha$e... Submitted by Key2daUndaground (Miami, Fl) Was This Review Helpful? Pianist/composer Michel Wintsch's music is jazz-based but heavily influenced by elements of contemporary European-derived art music. The band's unusual instrumentation reflects this most directly; the front line is comprised of a violinist and a violist. The presence of one or the other is unusual enough, but for a jazz ensemble to use both is well-nigh unprecedented. By the record's second cut, it's clear that the peculiar lineup is a natural outgrowth of Wintsch's conception. The track, "Painter Mikailov," is built on a gentle bass ostinato, over which the two string players etch a deceptively simple ...
