Personnel: Ozzy Osbourne (vocals); Randy Rhoads (electric & acoustic guitars); Rudy Sarzo (bass); Tommy Aldrige (drums). Recorded live in 1981. Includes liner notes by Phil Alexander, Ozzy Osbourne, Delores Rhoads. Digitally remastered by Stephen Marcussen (Marcussen Mastering). This live double album, released five years after Randy Rhoads' death, showcases a hard rock guitarist whose all-around ability was arguably second only to Eddie Van Halen. Osbourne leads his best band lineup through the entire Blizzard repertoire, plus a few Diary and Sabbath numbers. Of special note are Rhoads' unaccompanied solos, leaving no doubts about his virtuosity, and the studio outtakes of his short solo piece, "Dee." Rhoads' entire output is absolutely essential for guitar freaks, but he sounds even better live than in the studio. ~ Steve Huey Just prior to the death of guitarist Randy Rhoads, Ozzy Osbourne was planning on releasing a live album. With Randy's passing in April of '82, Osbourne felt that it would be more appropriate to shelve the album in favor of SPEAK OF THE DEVIL, a live double set that featured only versions of his Black Sabbath-era material. By 1987, Osbourne finally felt that the time was right to issue the originally planned live effort featuring Rhoads, titled TRIBUTE. TRIBUTE is simply one the greatest live heavy metal albums ever released. Rhoads' playing is consistently firey throughout, a fact that confirms how tragic his early passing was. The first eleven tracks are from the DIARY OF A MADMAN tour, including such exceptional Ozzy solo tracks as "Crazy Train," "I Don't Know," "Flying High Again," "Mr. Crowley," "Suicide Solution," and the Sabbath nuggets "Iron Man," "Children of the Grave," and "Paranoid." "Goodbye to Romance" and "No Bone Movies" are from an earlier solo gig, and the final track, "Dee (Randy Rhoads Studio Outtakes)," is a stirring solo guitar piece. TRIBUTE confirms that this early solo Ozzy line-up featuring Randy Rhoads was his finest. Tribute Review

| | Five Finger Death Punch War Is The Answer CD (2009)
Tribute
$11.59 Lyricists: Mick Ralphs; Paul Rogers . Personnel: Ivan Moody (vocals); Zoltan Bathory, Jason Hook (guitar); Jeremy Spencer (drums). Audio Mixers: Randy Staub ; Kevin Churko. Recording information: Gump Punch Studios, Las Vegas (04/2009-06/2009); Hit Track Studios, Las Vegas (04/2009-06/2009); The Dojo, Las Vegas (04/2009-06/2009). Five Finger Death Punch stormed rock radio in 2007 with "The Bleeding" (from debut album THE WAY OF THE FIST), a powerful, emotionally tense track that matched vintage, Metallica-style thrash with a throat-shredding chorus more typical of late aughts metalcore. The Los Angeles-based band's sophomore disc WAR IS THE ANSWER mines much of the same territory as that breakout song, keeping the flame of the classic `80s Four Horsemen sound alive with snap-tight chugga-chugga guitar rhythms, minor-key, classical music-inspired clean/acoustic passages, and vocals dripping with a James Hetfield-approved combination of sensitive angst and macho defiance. First single ...
| | Between The Buried And Me The Great Misdirect CD (2009)
Tribute
$11.18 Lyricist: Tommy Rogers. Personnel: Tommy Rogers (vocals, keyboards); Dustie Waring (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, slide guitar); Dan Briggs (fretless bass); Blake Richardson (drums, percussion). Audio Mixer: Jamie King. Photographer: Chuck Johnson . After Between the Buried and Me pushed metalcore purists away with their most progressive release, COLORS, they decided to push even harder for their fifth release. A diverse outing with an unruly amount of genres crammed into only six songs, THE GREAT MISDIRECT is a highly adventurous, very convoluted, wildly dynamic, and extremely difficult listen. Briggs, Waring, Rogers, Waggoner, and Richardson are in top form, with their script-flipping abilities intact and their technical chops at their most extreme. This is a guitarists' album first and foremost (although bass players and drummers are in for a treat, as well), and the playing, while showy, is incendiary. Like ...

| | Judy Collins Who Knows Where The Time Goes CD (1968)
Tribute
$5.95 Personnel: Judy Collins (vocals, acoustic guitar); James Burton (electric guitar, dobro); Stephen Stills (guitar, bass); Buddy Emmons (steel guitar); Van Dyke Parks, Michael Melvoin (piano); Michael Stahl (organ, harpsichord); Chris Ethridge (bass); James Gordon (drums, percussion). Recorded at Elektra Sound Recorders, Los Angeles, California. With a cast of instrumental all-stars, folk vocalist Judy Collins creates a mini-masterwork on Who Knows Where the Times Goes. Collins' strength as a storyteller and interpreter are at their forte throughout the disc. Likewise, she wanders upon the precipice of less traditional folk and more toward rock ("Hello Hooray") and even country/rock ("Poor Immigrant") -- the latter of which is a cover of a Bob Dylan composition. Additionally, her inimitable choice of material -- Collins' sole contribution being the languid ballad "My Father" -- serves the disc well. This is especially true of Ian Tyson's (of Ian & Sylvia fame) "Someday Soon," which in time became one of Collins' signature tunes. However, it is her interpretations of Leonard Cohen's "Bird on the Wire" and the biblically based "Story of Isaac" that are perhaps the most stunning. Both the laid-back pedal steel guitar work of Buddy Emmons on "Bird on a Wire" as well as the stark ...
