Let us all be thankful that Ozzy's retirement didn't stick. It supposedly lasted for three days, after which he got bored and started working on this project. Heavy, riff-intensive tunes, progressive song structures and a little psychedelia give OZZMOSIS a definite Sabbath flavor. Ozzy must have been in touch with whatever inspired early classics like PARANOID and MASTERS OF REALITY. Witness the extremely chunky "Thunder Underground," which can stand up next to "Sweet Leaf" and "Symptom Of The Universe" as an archetype of hard rock. The trippy guitar in "Ghost Behind My Eyes" and "Denial" are not some young Ozzy-wannabe going for a retro sound--this man was there, "Planet Caravan"ing.

Still, this heavy metal daddy in touch with his roots is also hip to the genre's latest sound. OZZMOSIS has a live, up-front feeling, thanks to producer Michael Beinhorn (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden). Zakk Wylde's huge, raw guitar also plays a major role. He provides scorching solos, lush textures and juicy fills with a muscular tone and minimal effects--the perfect complements to Osbourne's songwriting.

But more important than the raging guitars and the big sound is attitude. Ozzy's spunk has indeed rejected retirement. His songs still spew biting commentary at whoever will listen. "Your bulls**t culture licking can't stop the deathwatch ticking/You're only mortal after all," he warns on "Thunder Underground." Ozzy himself may not be immortal, but OZZMOSIS sounds like it is.

Q (10/02, p.132) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...Carefully written and better produced [than previous few releases]..."
NME (Magazine) (11/25/95, p.47) - 7 (out of 10) - "...Ozzy's career is undergoing something of an Indian summer....OZZMOSIS continues the trend for killer, hard edged commercial delivery and that trademark strained falsetto from hell....this album is as close to the spirit of classic Sabbath as you can get..."

Toby Keith American Ride CD  (2009)

Ozzmosis album
CD $13.09  3.5 stars Top 500 Audio Samples
With most contemporary country artists, you could guarantee that a song called "American Ride" would be a slice of jingoism, but Toby Keith isn't like most country singers. His "American Ride" casts a cynical eye at desperate housewives and wannabe pop stars, not celebrating down-home values but wondering where we're all headed on this American Ride at the end of the 2000s, a sentiment not all that far removed from some of Keith's previous social commentary, which makes it a mild surprise that it is the only song here that doesn't come from his own pen. As superb and striking as it is, it's not necessarily a good keystone for the rest of the record, which does have a few tougher numbers that pick up on the lean, mean vibe of 2008's THAT DON'T MAKE ME A BAD GUY -- "Every Dog Has Its Day," the sly "If I Had One," and the heavy blues stomp "Loaded" -- but spends more time on the softer side, even when he kicks up a bit of dust on the dancefloor on "You Can't Read My Mind" or does a funny, respectful salute to military life on "Ballad of Balad." In other words, ...

Fuck World Trade
Leftover Crack Fuck World Trade CD  (2004) Digipak

Ozzmosis music CDs
CD $13.09  5 stars Top 500 Audio Samples
Leftover Crack return their fire-stoked railroad spike to society's eye with the subtlety-banishing Fuck World Trade. The spike's iron cooled after 2001's Mediocre Generica, and little was heard from the New York squatter punks. But World Trade makes up for lost time -- it's provoking and nonconforming in double and triple amounts. "Clear Channel (Fuck Off!)" is a rallying cry even without its East Coast hardcore rumble, while "Life Is Pain" and "Gang Control" return to the scraggly ska-punk sound that's the band's strongest side. As a vocalist, Stza is, well, limited. But to spit vitriol and passion, you don't have to be the Velvet Fog. His pained whine leads the boys through a host of hyper upbeats and amplified hardcore choruses, and the kicker is that this record is more melodic than 99 percent of what the punk-pap ...

Metridium Fields
Giant Squid Metridium Fields CD  (2006)

Ozzmosis album
CD $6.99  5 stars Top 500 Audio Samples
For their debut album, California-to-Texas migrants Giant Squid did something that more groups should, perhaps, do -- they not only released it twice, but recorded it twice. Having first put out Metridium Fields on their own, the bandmembers got back together with engineer Billy Anderson to redo it entirely for their initial release on The End Records. As trivia it's fun enough, but the real proof lies in the sound, and what's interesting about this album is that for all the indie metal tags being thrown around, more than anything else it sounds like a dreamy, doomy early-'70s hard rock effort, as if Jefferson Airplane took songs like "Somebody to Love" to a darker place. Soothing, swirling keyboards, the combined vocals of guitarists Aaron and Aurielle Gregory and steady-as-she-goes tempos all help steer the band a bit back towards the past in enjoyable ways, rather than simply trying to relive them outright. A great ...
Savage Garden
69 Eyes Savage Garden CD  (1995)

Ozzmosis CD music
CD $11.65  Audio Samples
SAVAGE GARDEN is a 1995 album by the Finnish heavy metal band the 69 Eyes. The Finnish goth band's second album trespasses into Black Sabbath territory with impunity with a roster of songs that includes the punky, searing "Tang" and the grinding guitar riffs of "Ghettoway Car." Circa 1995, most new rock bands still appeared mesmerized by the sounds that had originated from Seattle just a few years earlier. In other words, issuing an album that sounded influenced by the likes of the Cult and Mötley Crüe was about as far from expected as possible. But it appears that no one ever told that to Helsinki's the 69 Eyes, who issued their third full-length overall in 1995, Savage Garden. Not quite as "in your face" as its predecessor a ...
