Japanese version featuring 2 bonus tracks: "Back Up", & "I Bet".
B2K: Lil Fizz, Omarion, J-Boog, Raz-B. Producers include: The Underdogs, Troy Taylor, Charles Farrar, Platinum Status, Jermaine Dupri. Japanese edition adds two extra songs. CD contains 2 bonus tracks. Epic Records definitely did its homework before unleashing B2K into the pop market. The boy band of clean-cut and suave young black men is everything a marketing department dreams about: attractive teens-becoming-men who make the girls melt with a little bit of a rugged, tough-guy attitude and flashy clothes. Of course, there are also the dance beats that are as much dance-pop as hip-hop; in fact, you might even wager a bet that the many producers and songwriters on this album had been listening to a bit of Craig David and other British 2-step pop stars. Plus, the group members are capable singers as well, which is another bonus. Overall, with the girl-magnet looks, the trendy radio-ready production, and the limitless vocal hooks, Epic Records has all the makings of pop stardom in B2K, including a market-testing hit single in "Uh Huh" that set the stage for the group's debut album. B2K, a self-titled album, gets off to a good start, jumping right into some of its best songs -- "Gots ta Be," "Understanding," and "Why I Love You" -- before unleashing the album highlight, the aforementioned "Uh Huh." From there, the album gets progressively long-winded, running through 17 songs in total, none of them overly distinct. Of course, that's the nature of pop albums, particularly boy band albums, and B2K definitely follows in the grand tradition of its predecessors: Jagged Edge, Dru Hill, Blackstreet, and Bell Biv Devoe. ~ Jason Birchmeier Now these guys are smooth. Though the four lads who make up B2K may not look old enough to shave, they've already got their mack daddy rap down cold, and for a romantic R&B group, that's a crucial point. From a purely sonic viewpoint, they set the stage for seduction perfectly with rhythms that strike just the right balance between sensuality and gentle prodding, and lush, sparkling guitar and keyboard splashes. Thematically, they really bring the game home; letting girls know what they need on "Understanding," letting them know that B2K knows what women want on "Gots Ta Be," and even going so far as to include such ultra-confident fare as the very self-explanatory "B2K is Hot." Did we mention that the band's official website is called B2Klovesyou.com? Parents, lock up your daughters, B2K has arrived.
Q (8/02, p.120) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...A tried-and-tested yet dextrous formula of soul/R&B stylings, glutinous harmonies and cloying sentimentality...done with relative sensativity and suss..." Purchase B2K CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Silky Soul Music: An All-Star Tribute To Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly CD (2009)
B2K
$11.65 A San Francisco-based smooth R&B act with roots in Philadelphia soul, Maze (usually billed as Maze featuring Frankie Beverly) never managed to break with a larger mainstream audience during their late-`70s to early `80s peak, but nevertheless garnered a devoted following in urban radio as one of the progenitors of the romantic, understated style known as "quiet storm." And the group's jazz-funk sophistication can certainly be felt in contemporary R&B and neo-soul styles of the `90s and `00s, with some of their career highpoints ("Joy and Pain" and "Before I Let Go") being heavily sampled by hip-hop producers. SILKY SOUL MUSIC, a tribute project organized by Frankie Beverly's son, Anthony, pays proper homage to the oft-overlooked R&B act with 10 of their best known songs as covered by top contemporary R&B and gospel artists, including Musiq Soulchild, Mary J. Blige, and Joe, among others.

| | Tech N9ne K.O.D. CD (2009) Digipak
B2K
$15.18 As an acolyte of horrorcore, a rap micro genre adorned with grisly lyrics and macabre themes, Tech N9ne is one of the more controversial and misunderstood figures in hip-hop music. Coming off the heels of his second album of collaborations, the early 2009-release SICKOLOGY 101, the ever prolific Tech released a late-2009 solo effort entitled K.O.D., painting some of his most gruesome depictions of psychosis and shock-addled lyricism yet. While the overall tone ...

Recorded at Westlake Audio Studios, Los Angeles, California. Originally released on Epic (40600). Digitally remastered by Bernie Grundman (Bernie Grundman Mastering, Los Angeles, California). The downside to a success like Thriller is that it's nearly impossible to follow, but Michael Jackson approached Bad much the same way he approached Thriller -- take the basic formula of the predecessor, expand it slightly, and move it outward. This meant that he moved deeper into hard rock, deeper into schmaltzy adult contemporary, deeper into hard dance -- essentially taking each portion of Thriller ...
| | Notorious B I G Ready To Die CD (1994) With DVD; Reissue; Remastered
B2K
$12.65 Personnel: The Notorious B.I.G. (rap vocals); Diana King, Total (vocals); Method Man (rap vocals); Sybil Pennix (spoken vocals); Chucky Thompson (various instruments). The album that reinvented East Coast rap for the gangsta age, Ready to Die made the Notorious B.I.G. a star, and vaulted Sean "Puffy" Combs' Bad Boy label into the spotlight as well. Today it's recognized as one of the greatest hardcore rap albums ever recorded, and that's mostly due to Biggie's skill as a storyteller. His raps are easy to understand, but his skills are hardly lacking -- he has a loose, easy flow and a talent for piling multiple rhymes on top of one another in quick succession. He's blessed with a flair for the dramatic, and slips in and out of different contradictory characters with ease. Yet, no matter how much he heightens things for effect, it's always easy to see elements of Biggie in his narrators and of his own experience in the details; everything is firmly rooted in reality, but plays like scenes from a movie. A sense of doom pervades his most involved stories: fierce bandits ("Gimme the Loot"), a hustler's beloved girlfriend ("Me & My Bitch"), and robbers out for Biggie's newfound riches ("Warning") all die in hails of gunfire. The album is also sprinkled with reflections on the soul-draining bleakness of the streets -- "Things Done Changed," "Ready to Die," and "Everyday Struggle" are powerfully affecting in their confusion and despair. Not everything is so dark, though; Combs' production collaborations result in some upbeat, commercial moments, and typically cop from recognizable hits: the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" on the graphic sex rap "One More Chance," Mtume's "Juicy Fruit" ...

| | Avons Golden Classics CD (1995)
B2K
$11.59 Incluldes liner notes by Mark Marymont. Liner Note Author: Mark Marymont. Whether singing up-tempo tunes, ballads, or humorous songs, the Avons glistened like diamonds. These finely tuned tracks are spit-polished to a high sheen; no garage or storefront doo wop here. Spearheaded by a gifted lead tenor (Ervin Watson), the Avons' vocal abilities maintain their sophisticated aura even when a blistering tenor sax -- featured on their up-tempo numbers -- honks, squeals, and squawks like it's trying to exorcise demons. Their roots aren't strictly doo wop; like the Moonglows (and the Four Tops), they show a strong affection for modern harmony and groups like the Mills Brothers, which is most obvious on their ballads. The New Jersey natives were every bit as talented as their labelmates, the Heartbeats, but never had a big record. Salting the wound, Uncle Sam drafted at least four Avons during ...

| | Ange Par Les Fils De Mandrin CD (1990) (Import) France
B2K
$14.45 Par Les Fils De Mandrin constitutes perfect balance between the over-emphasized theatrics of Christian Decamp on Au-Delà Du Délire and the more rock/less lyrical approach of Émile Jacotay. The album is presented as a "musical tale for big children" and, therefore, leaves more room for narratives ("Atlantis"), folk settings ("Ainsi S'en Ira La Pluie"), and medieval atmospheres ("Saltimbanques"). The compositional approach is simpler, keeping the very progressive material for the epic "Hymne à la Vie" ("Hymn to Life"), a piece that allies Yes-like serenity to the typical bombastic sound. "Hymne à la Vie" will remain "the" ten-minute-plus Ange track, succeeding in maintaining cohesion and intensity, something "Ego et Deus" on Émile Jacotay lacked, and ending on a guitar/Mellotron theme that takes the best out of the formula used on earlier pieces like "Au-Delà du Délire" ...
