Japanese version featuring 4 bonus tracks: "Fu-gee-la (North Side Mix)", "Killing Me Softly With His Song (Sound Barrier Mix)", "Ready Or Not (Clark Kent/Django Remix)", & "The Sweetest Thing".
The Fugees: Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, Prakazrel "Pras". Producers include: Wyclef Jean, Lauryn Hill, John Forte, Shawn King, Salaam Remi. GREATEST HITS brings together the best loved tracks from celebrated 1990s hip hop supergroup The Fugees included "Fu-gee-la," "Ready Or Not," and "Killing Me Softly." This import contains four exclusive bonus cuts--"Fu-gee-la" (North Side Mix), "Killing Me Softly With His Song" (Sound Barrier Mix), "Ready Or Not" (Clark Kent/Django Remix), & "The Sweetest Thing." As wonderful and compelling as the Fugees were during their brief moment in the sun (circa 1996), it's difficult to make the case for a Fugees Greatest Hits. The trio only put out two records, the first a muddled attempt at weed-soaked hardcore, the second an excellent fusion of hip-hop and soul, so the obvious choice for record-buyers is that final full-length, The Score. This compilation includes seven tracks from The Score, prefacing it with two selections from the 1994 debut (Blunted on Reality) and tacking on Lauryn Hill's first solo recording, "The Sweetest Thing" -- originally on the Love Jones soundtrack and later included on her first album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Anyone interested in hearing what the Fugees sounded like before The Score is subjected to Blunted on Reality's pair of substandard singles ("Vocab," "Nappy Heads"), though wiser compilers would've chosen early songs that paved the way for The Score, like the graceful Hill feature "Some Seek Stardom." Brief and perfunctory, Greatest Hits is, basically, a budget compilation with a more artful cover. ~ John Bush As wonderful and compelling as the Fugees were during their brief moment in the sun (circa 1996), it's difficult to make the case for a Fugees Greatest Hits. Black Eyed Peas, the hip-hop crossover juggernaut that propelled singer Fergie and producer Will.I.Am to superstardom, have, since 2003's ELEPHUNK, been audaciously plugging away at their bombastic but lighthearted style of rap-cum-dance pop--an effort that has translated to a run of successful chart-topping singles including "My Humps," "Pump It," and "Don't Phunk with My Heart." Eager to follow up on the platinum-selling success of 2005's MONKEY BUSINESS, Black Eyed Peas have returned with THE E.N.D. (an acronym for "Energy Never Dies"), their third studio effort. ...

Personnel: Tomas Kalnoky (vocals, guitar); James Egan (vocals, flute, tin whistle, French horn, trombone); Ryan Eldred (vocals, saxophone); Kevin Gunther (vocals, trumpet); Chris Greer (vocals, drums); Josh Ansley (vocals). Audio Mixer: Hillary Johnson. Recording information: Spa Recording Studios. Photographers: Tomas Kalnoky; Agusto F. Menezes. Something of a 21st-century third wave ska supergroup, New Jersey's Streetlight Manifesto include Tomas Kalnoky, an ex-member of rival ska outfit Catch 22, which is presumably one of the reasons the band have chosen to rerecord Catch 22's 1998 album KEASBEY NIGHTS. Penned by Kalnoky, it's mostly a breakneck collection of punk-oriented ska featuring a tight, punchy horn section, with a set of themes that vary from the teen angst of "Sick and Sad" to teen love on "Kristina She Don't Know I Exist." "There is absolutely no way of explaining the existence of the record you now hold in your hands without somehow offending, infuriating, confusing or alienating certain parties, so we won't even try. Please enjoy this for what it is." Such is the opening paragraph that awaits inquiring minds inside the notes for Keasbey Nights -- the version "as performed by Streetlight Manifesto," that is. Ska revival fans of the late '90s will recognize the title immediately as the name of the 1998 debut full-length from the influential New Jersey ska outfit Catch 22. Tomas Kalnoky, Streetlight's raspy lead singer, was a founding member of Catch 22, responsible for writing and singing on the original Keasbey Nights before leaving the band for the realms of higher education. Songs from the album were arguably never the same when performed live without his distinctive voice. Well, now Kalnoky is back with a new band, Streetlight Manifesto, and though they produce pretty damn enjoyable ska-punk on their own terms (check out their 2003 debut, Everything Goes Numb), for their second Victory release the band is reaching into the archives. It's Keasbey Nights, Part Deux. Rumors of this possible release had been circulating among the ska world for quite a while as its street date kept getting pushed back, and speculation was high as to the exact motivation behind re-recording the album in its entirety. After all, there's no new material; it's the same album. And even though the new version is technically by a different band, it's still the same singer. So why? Fortunately, a little light is shed at the end of the last track. Amid distracting background music, distorted electronic voices conduct a barely audible interview as to the motivations behind the album. It seems that not only was Kalnoky never satisfied with the original recording, but they also wanted ...
