Slow Jamz Album album
$9.09 Burgeoning smooth jazz superstar Steve Cole continues to bridge the gap between pop-jazz and classic R&B on his third studio album, NY LA. Featuring strong melodic statements and truly funky keyboards via the likes of Brian Culbertson and Marquis "Hami" Dair, NY LA is a moody and solid affair. From the disco-influenced "Off Broadway," which ...
| | Jeff Lorber Philly Style CD (2003)
Slow Jamz Album CD music
$13.39 The soul-jazz minded keyboardist has been a legendary pop-fusion and smooth-jazz artist for several decades, and producer Steven Dubin had been a huge smooth-jazz force for several years (working with Peter White, Richard Elliot and Najee). The two Philadelphia natives never crossed paths (despite having gone to the same high school ...

Slow Jamz Album songs
$14.65 As one reviewer said of the cheerful music and personality of this increasingly popular voice of smooth jazz guitar, it's Disneyland all the time with him. In other words, Positive Energy, the name of his second genre disc, wasn't just a happy marketing tool. And the title of this disc is appropriate, too, because with the co-production help of founding Spyro Gyra keyboardist Tom Schuman, Oliver digs deep into a rich variety of influences for a multifaceted romp through the worlds of pop, jazz, urban/hip-hop, ...
| | Boney James Pure CD (2004)
Slow Jamz Album album
$9.59 Nine albums into his career, Boney James makes a grab for the smooth-jazz crown with PURE, an outing that finds him working with a mix of soul and jazz luminaries. James ups the stakes by taking over the production reins (in addition to co-writing every song). Still front and center with his beloved tenor saxophone, this Grammy-nominated artist shifts to soprano ...

| | Chris Bennett Bennett On Broadway CD (2005)
Slow Jamz Album CD music
$16.45 Chris Bennett has had a wide-ranging career, from disco early on to "contemporary" jazz, pop, and cabaret. A talented singer/songwriter who is best known for performing her own material, she switches directions altogether on this CD, reviving 18 songs that were originally part of Broadway shows. The emphasis throughout is on Bennett's lovely and expressive voice, with most of the tunes taken at relaxed tempos with a few medium-tempo romps included for variety. She sticks to the lyrics, bringing out the beauty in the words, and her improvising is very subtle while she swings lightly. The backup group, which includes altoist Armando Castagnoli, guitarists Kleber Jorge and Thom Rotella, and either Bill Augustine or Bennett on piano, plays its parts well and keeps the momentum flowing. Among the selections are "Come Back to Me," "Old Devil Moon," "If Ever I Would Leave You," "All of You," and "Get out of Town," plus an occasional obscurity. The numbers are arranged in two acts, but there is no story line and the project is really just a good excuse for Bennett to sing classic material. This is one of Chris Bennett's finest all-round recordings. ~ Scott Yanow
