| | Michael Hurley Snockgrass CD (1980)
Davy Crockett music CDs
$13.39 Only a portion of Hurley's sparse output (dating back to the mid-'60s) remains in print, but in a perfect world they'd be in every home across the land. This 1980 album was his follow-up to the equally essential LONG JOURNEY of 1976. This set features the debut of some of the songs most favored by his devoted following. The first three alone--"Midnight Rounder," "O My Stars," and "Tia Marie"--should be enough to convince anyone that their life can only be enriched by bringing this music along for the ride. His casually rich and elegant songs are given perfect accompaniment by a small ensemble. There's a hominess to the entire set that's positively addicting in its ability to calm a worried heart, warm a winter's night, or cool a summer afternoon. Hurley's droll wit and heartfelt romanticism (never too sweet or at all cliched) imbue his songs with an utterly unique character, but which also strikes a broadly ...

| | Carter Family Can The Circle Be Unbroken: Country Music's First Family CDs (2000)
Davy Crockett CD music
$7.59 Digitally remastered by David Mitson (Sony Music Studios, Santa Monica, California).
CAN THE CIRCLE BE UNBROKEN is subtitled COUNTRY MUSIC'S FIRST FAMILY, a claim so readily apparent it's almost unnecessary. This 20-track compilation doesn't touch on the 1927-'34 recordings that first made the trio famous; instead it collects all 17 songs A.P., Sara, and Maybelle Carter recorded over a single five-day session in May '35 for the ARC label, after they left RCA Victor. (The remaining tracks are from an abortive Columbia session in 1940.) In keeping with the usual label politics of the period, almost all of these tunes are remakes of earlier material, but that doesn't mean they're of lesser quality. Indeed, for those familiar with the older recordings, ...
| | Jimmy Bryant Country Cabin Jazz CD (1960) (Import) Japan; Mini LP Sleeve
Davy Crockett music CDs
$41.75 Along with his frequent partner, pedal steel guitarist Speedy West, Jimmy Bryant was one the most in-demand session players in country music. Recording mostly behind Capitol's considerable lineup of artists during the '50s and '60s, Bryant augmented his frequent work for the likes of Tennessee Ernie Ford, Kay Starr, and Buck Owens with a fair share of solo dates, often featuring West. This classic Capitol release from 1960 finds the two jazz-influenced players ...

| | Lockdown Realest Presents Diesel One Of The Realest Left CD (2007)
Davy Crockett CD music
$9.59 Just coming home November of 2006 after being incarcerated for almost 9 years inside the belly of the beast for possession with intent to distribute, he has resurrected as a hungry ass hip hop gorilla that wants the world to hear what he has to say. Ernie D., A.K.A. Diesel is BACK. Ernest C. Darden was raised in Suffolk, Virginia, where he was born on Feb 8. As a kid he found himself interested in hip hop at a very early age. Because of his hip hop talent he quickly became well known as a unique individual. When break dancing hit the scene, Ernest gained much respect on the streets by battling opponents on the dance floor. As his reputation grew, he became better known as Ernie D, the man who rocked the spot. While break dancing gave him the opportunity to travel from city to city for competition, his love for hip hop introduced him to the art of emceeing. The Sugahill Gang, Grandmaster Flash, and the Furious Five are just a few artists who turned him on to emceeing. But Super Rhymes (the first emcee to flow for fifteen minutes straight, on a single track) really enticed Ernie D. to learn the art of building collages of lyrical terms. Learning to be artistically talented took practice, rehearsal, and more practice. In a matter of time the streets began to know him as a lyrical genius. In the Seven Cities of VA, the popular radio station 103 JAMZ (back when Morris Baxter the Nighthawk and Phil Nelson were DJ-ing) aired Ernie D’s voice as their first rap commercial ever. Performing locally and easily crushing his competition in rap battles, he decided to take his talent on the road. ...
