This collection of previously unreleased material features live tracks, radio performaces, home demos, and material made available here for the first time from the collection of Marc Bolan's family. Limited to 5000 copies, this box set is a true collector's item.
Box set includes five CDs, a DVD, two Electric Warrior stickers, and an illustrated booklet containing liner notes by Mickey Finn, Steve Currie, and Bill Legend.
The first major release under son Rolan Bolan's stewardship of Marc Bolan's back catalog, Total T. Rex is a six-disc, 72-track collection that rounds up a mountain of material from 1971-1972, largely live but also including radio sessions, demos, and even a bonus DVD's worth of live footage. Little of it is entirely new to the avid collector, although the cleaned-up sound and sensible chronology is an improvement on many past attempts to anthologize this period. A few of the live recordings, too, seem to hail from hitherto untapped sources, although the only disc that really counts as "invaluable" would be the one that delves into the sessions for 1971's Electric Warrior watershed and hauls out the hitherto unheard title track -- which shifts so quickly into the so-familiar "There Was a Time" that one wonders what all the fuss has been about. Elsewhere, demos and rehearsals do round up a few more items of interest, but the entire package is really recommended only to collectors who, having spent the last decade or so in a land with no record stores, haven't already been tempted by much the same material in a wealth of other packagings. ~ Dave Thompson
A beautiful collector's box set individually numbered & strictly limited to 5000 copies worldwide. Five CDs, two featuring radio sessions, two featuring live material, & one of home demos, all previously unreleased. The DVD features 8mm footage of various appearances between 1971 & 1972. Features unreleased material, such as the never heard before title track from the Electric Warrior album, from the personal collection of Marc's family for the first time! Includes two Electric Warrior replica stickers, & a de-luxe booklet with liner notes by drummer Bill Legend & the late Mickey Finn & Steve Currie, as well as unpublished photos. Easy Action. 2004. Total T. Rex 1971-1972 Music Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Bolan Box This Ltd Edition T.Rex Box Isn't as Rare as first thought Most Radio Tracks have been released previously & some of the demos already in the Edsel Unchained series.....
The Sound is Far better than bootlegs & the packaging is first rate..
The DVD doesn't Play at all!! whether it's a Region code issue only further review will tell..
Snipets of songs on the demo cd aren't anything of necessity with "electric warrior's" unfinished title track, just that...
Plus calling it 1971-1972 isn't true because 90% is from '71 only.... Included Stickers Sum Up the Rest But It Needs A "Rabbit Fighter" To Give More of The Goods of the Studio Gods......FRF.... Submitted by dhv-cd-2000 (DHVCD Studios NJ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
total t.rex 1971-1972 box I thought that having these different fazes of Marc's live, demo's & the dvd etc, was a nice touch, showing how he took his songs from demo to live performancing showed he had prowess & integrity. Marc was a master of his craft and hopefully there will be more of the same but using later works from say 1972/3 thru to 1977.What would be a nice touch would be to use bump n grind cd + shadowhead cd, and if possible getting telegram sam, teenage dream footage [if available] from the rock concert show, but what we have so far is excellent, well done done. | | Paul McCartney Ram CD (1971) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
$10.49 At the beginning of his solo career, McCartney took the term rather literally, recording virtually alone, playing and singing nearly all the parts himself. Nowhere is that approach more effective than on RAM, arguably his finest solo recording. Admittedly, he ...
| | Grand Funk Railroad E Pluribus Funk CD (1971) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
$8.85 Grand Funk's fifth album overall, 1971's E PLURIBUS FUNK, remains its most politically charged release. The trio also incorporated what were previously uncharted territories for a hard rock band on the song "Loneliness," which uses an orchestra to great effect. ...
