| | Def Leppard Pyromania CDs (1983) Bonus CD; Remastered; Deluxe Edition; Digipak
Chain Of Command CD music
$19.59 Although many music fans were convinced that Def Leppard would become hard rock's next big band, few could have predicted the massive across-the-boards success that its third record, 1983's PYROMANIA, achieved. Many wondered why it was taking the group so long to release a follow-up to 1981's HIGH 'N' DRY, but the finished product was well worth the wait. Not only did it become one of the year's best-selling albums and made the band instant U.S. arena headliners, but it has remained a consistent seller ever since (by 1994, it had reached nine million units in the U.S. alone).
The songwriting and overall sound was more streamlined and succinct this time around--while there are guitar riffs galore, the songs have more of a pop feel. Founding guitarist Pete Willis left during the recording, replaced by Phil Collen, who fit in perfectly with the band. The album features such mega-hits as "Photograph," "Rock of Ages," and "Foolin'," as well as a couple of other tracks that could have easily been singles as well, "Rock Rock (Till You Drop)" and "Too Late for Love." PYROMANIA remains one of the best and most popular ...
| | Tool Opiate CD (1992) Extended Play
Chain Of Command music CDs
$10.39 Back in the early months of 1992, alternative rock was exploding. Radio and MTV had finally fully embraced the oft-dismissed genre, but the bands that were receiving most of the airplay were writing straightforward, raw punk-pop songs. After the breakup of Jane's Addiction, another Los Angeles band, Tool, satisfied fans looking for progressive art-rock with an alternative edge. Issued in March of 1992, Tool's debut six-track OPIATE EP showed that the new band was creating its own highly original sound.
Half of the songs stretched over the four-minute mark, which signaled the epic-songwriting direction the band would explore further on such future releases as 1993's UNDERTOW and 1996's AENIMA. While the compositions on the debut aren't as developed as those on the aforementioned albums, ...

$8.75 Last Stop Suburbia is more typical Drive-Thru Records pop-punk from a band whose bio admits, "Growing up, punk rock was Screeching Weasel, Green Day and the Queers, and that's all they wrote: fast pop-punk with catchy-as-hell melodies. That's what we try to maintain." For what it's worth, Allister ...

| | Chariot Everything Is Alive, Everything Is Breathing Nothing Is Dead And Nothing Is Bleeding CD (2004)
Chain Of Command songs
$9.84 When Josh Scogin left his position as lead singer for the alternative metal band Norma Jean in 2002, fans wondered where he would eventually end up. The answer is Scogin's own band the Chariot, who offer a truly ferocious dose of metalcore on their debut album, Everything Is Alive, Everything Is Breathing, Nothing Is Dead and Nothing Is Bleeding. Musically, no prisoners are taken on this 2004 release; Scogin and his equally unforgiving colleagues favor the sort of harshness, brutality and suffocating density that metalcore is known for. An exercise in sensory assault for the sake of sensory assault, this 27-minute CD sounds like the soundtrack to hell. Ah, but here's the punchline: The Chariot, like Norma Jean, is a Christian band -- and this album's lyrics, for all their angst, are meant to be uplifting rather than nihilistic. Some will ask, "How can a band that sounds so brutal be promoting spirituality?" But truth be told, there is nothing in the Bible, the Holy Koran or the Bhagavad-Gita that specifies what a religious band has to sound like -- and if a band wants to use metalcore to promote Christianity, Judaism, Islam or Buddhism (in the Chariot's case, Christianity), there is no reason not to. The Chariot's stream-of-consciousness lyrics are not preachy; rather, Scogin takes a painful look at the world around him and concludes that Christianity is the remedy. Most of the time, Scogin screams in English, but he detours into some Spanish lyrics on "Yellow Dress, Locked Knees," declaring, "Jesus, yo quiero que este mundo te conosca." ...
