(10 Customer Reviews)
In between recording its third and fourth albums, Static-X kept its rabid fanbase sated with BENEATH, BETWEEN, BEYOND, an 18-track compilation of rare tracks, demos, and previously unreleased material. The expected mix of jackhammer tempos, lead-pipe riffs, and pounding time-keeping saturate this disc, and make demos for Static-X standouts "I Am," "Love Dump," "Get to the Gone," and "New Pain" all the more impressive.
Two cuts--"Breathe" and "Deliver Me"--were cut during the sessions for SHADOW ZONE, and include the aforementioned nuances along with the kind of grooves sure to encourage plenty of head-bobbing and pogo dancing. The desire to go back and rework existing tracks is always a risky proposition, but this industrial-rock quartet manages to do it with great aplomb, particularly on the relentless JB's Death Trance Mix of "Push It" and Paul Barker's remix of "I'm with Stupid." Other cuts of note include "Burning Inside," a high-energy collaboration with Fear Factory's Burton C. Bell, and a frenetic reading of the Ramones' "Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment" that stays surprisingly true to the original.
"Beneath, Between, Beyond" is the definitive collection of Static-X rarities and an absolute must for fans of the band. Highlights of the package include a cover of Ministry's "Burning Inside" that features Burton C Bell of Fear Factory and a cover of the Ramones "Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment". In addition, the album will also feature a remix of "I'm With Stupid" by Paul Barker of Ministry, demo versions of songs from all three of their albums to date as well as various other rare material.

This is probably the best Static-X CD ever. The Remixes are awesome and the Demo's are cool to hear so you can see how they originally were. The B-Sides are just badass. Hopefully theres gonna be a Vol. 2. Submitted by sworn_eyez (Thompson Falls, Montana, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
This album will bury you... Static-X is amzing. How many bands can put out a decent b-sides & Rarities album and kick so much ass? not many. Love Burning Inside, Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment, and Crash. Buy this now. Submitted by Nasty Boy (Hell) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
This is great to borrow instead of buy y'know! It sums up as an overview of B-sides that lead up after the first two albums or so. Nothing fancy but demos to give a slice of pie to. Covers aren't done too shabbily, if I can recall. This will remind you of what Fear Factory did before the landslide came crashing in. Between Shadow Zone and Start a War, it begins to wear thin, vocally, as well. Submitted by orangegreendesolate (Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Not required? Unfortunately this CD was released a little ahead of it's time, i mean to put out an album of rare B-sides & remixes after you have only produced 3 albums previously just doesn't warrant such a thing at this point of thier career. Anyway it was a bit of a dissapointment really just 2 songs worth of note: 'head & so real' which are pretty cool. I am not a fan of remix albums, that bands tend to release, they always over do them, the occasional one is interesting..... otherwise??? Regret I regrettably bought the Texas Chainsaw Massacre soundtrack with the song "Deliver Me" on it, just for that one song (and the Index Case song "Listen.) However, I went through my Static-X CDs a couple days ago and found that song on this CD. In conclusion, this CD, although it has a lot of duds on it, is worth its price as long as its under ten bucks. Submitted by Brock (Danville, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
