A singer-songwriter from the UK (born in the West Indies), Joan Armatrading emerged in the early 1970s to great critical acclaim, and by 1980, she'd amassed a loyal following in both the US and the UK with her introspective but subtly rhythmic style. LIVE: ALL THE WAY FROM AMERICA presents a wonderful sampling of her rich catalog of songs, from the deep ache of "The Weakness In Me" to the whimsically assertive "Me, Myself, I" to the wistful "Rosie."
This spectacular event recording was filmed during Joan's 2003 World Tour and features a collection of her most popular hits anlong with new songs from her most recent studio album "Lovers Speak" Filmed completely live at the Lillian Fontaine Theater in Saratoga, CA, this program showcases Joan as the consummate entertainer she is - accomplished singer/songwriter, guitarist, and spellbinding storyteller.

Live All The Way From America
$15.98 Unlike its 2002 predecessor Back in the U.S., Good Evening New York City doesn't cherrypick highlights from a tour, it commemorates a specific event: the inauguration of Citi Field -- the replacement for the now-defunct Shea Stadium, where the Beatles played a legendary show in 1965 -- in the summer of 2009. The circumstances may be different -- different enough to lead to a Billy Joel cameo on "I Saw Her Standing There," the piano man returning a favor from Paul, who played at Billy's Shea-closing shows in 2008 -- and McCartney might have two strong albums of new material to draw upon, but as an album, Good Evening New York City plays a lot like Back in the U.S. with a whopping 17 of its 35 tracks shared between the two titles. ...

CYCLORAMA is the second studio album that Styx has made without former leader/singer/keyboardist Dennis DeYoung, with whom the group acrimoniously split a few years earlier. It's also the first to include DeYoung's replacement Lawrence Gowan, whose voice is in the same general ballpark as DeYoung's but never seems imitative. Longtime singer/guitarist Tommy Shaw is the dominant presence here, and his delivery of the ostensibly group-composed songs is full of energy and commitment. The songs themselves are not far from the material Styx tackled in their '70s glory days, minus the pomp-rock touches and with a bit more of an edge. That edge is most obvious in a couple of songs that seem to be directed at DeYoung, lyrics dripping in occasionally shocking vitriol. Though the DeYoung days are seemingly gone forever, CYCLORAMA suggests that the remaining members of Styx never wanted time to stand still anyway.
